GOP mega-donor: Trump would cause ‘global depression’

Posted by | June 29, 2016 15:08 | Filed under: Economy News Behaving Badly Politics

Paul Singer believes Trump’s economic policies would likely lead to global depression.

“The most impactful of the economic policies that I recall him coming out for are these anti-trade policies,” Paul Singer said during a panel discussion at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado, according to CNBC. “And I think if he actually stuck to those policies and gets elected president, it’s close to a guarantee of a global depression, widespread global depression.”

Singer is the founder of Elliott Management Corporation, a fund worth $27 billion that specializes in distressed debt acquisitions. A self-described libertarian, he donated $100,000 to the Republican Party in 2015, according to Forbes, and contributed to Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) failed bid for the presidency.

Singer’s remarks in Aspen came one day after Trump gave two speeches laying out his fervent opposition to international trade agreements and threatening to raise tariffs on the United States’ leading trading partners, including China and Mexico.

According to CNBC, Singer donated $1 million in April to the anti-Trump Our Principles PAC. He said at the conference that he may not vote for anyone in November.

The Oracle of Elections (aka Nate Silver) has made his initial forecast today. As you read the comments on this article, you find that the detachment from reality among Trump supporters is palpable as they gamely and lamely attempt to argue that Silver has no credibility.

The most accurate poll analyst in the country has no credibility? That’s right, the Romney landslide people are at it again…

A few days ago after several polls showed HRC besting Trump in November, Hannity got the RW “unskewed polls” movement started. I expect the movement to grow the closer we get to November because the same thing happened in 2012. In 2012, GOPers denied the validity of Nate Silver’s mathematics and all polls showing Romney would lose and received the shock of their lives a little after 11:00 PM on election night when the race was called for President Obama.

Dumb ass. Don’t complain about how terrible it would worldwide and then NOT vote against him. These people are so stupid.

They don’t seem to realize that we notice that they’re speaking about not supporting Trump while supporting him by not voting against him at the same d*mn time. They are stupid.

I think the post above said he’s not going to vote at all and a million bucks probably suggests he isn’t bluffing

      • whatthe46 June 29th, 2016 at 17:19

Not casting his vote is a vote for tRump. A silent vote.

Trump doesn’t need any help tanking his chances He’s able to do that on his own

but, if you don’t want the pos to win, why not vote for the opposition? if he seriously believes it would that detrimental to everyone and abroad, you sure as hell cast for the other. this is what ticks me off about these dumbasses. not an ounce of damn sense.

As I mentioned before some counties won’t let you switch your vote or register as a dem or gop after the primaries. This is why the electoral system needs an overhaul along with eliminating superdelegates. If all the above were in place today, you wouldn’t see politicians screwing around like they do today knowing there could be no tomorrow in politics.

Mr. Singer, global-wide depression is already coming, whether you care to admit it or not. It has nothing to do with POTUS, except for the speed at which it gets here. Stop pretending you don’t know this.

you don’t have to vote if you don’t want to, but for myself, I enjoy just having my little say, even if it goes unheard.

I do actually believe an all out NUCLEAR WAR where those who have ’em would use ’em instead of taking the chance of losing ’em would be a certain with trump in power. TRUE, it would immediately cause a worldwide economic depression (if anyone is left) but mostly it will be the biggest suck azz day EVER.
