Rabbi Michael Lerner has been a fighter for progressive causes his whole life.

Lerner spoke as a representative of the Jewish faith at Muhammad Ali’s memorial service in Louisville [Friday], and delivered a fiery sermon calling for a litany of social change, including the ending of drone warfare, the ending of Israeli West Bank occupation, and literally dozens of other things—commanding multiple standing ovations.

At the funeral of one of the best known people in the world, who happens to be a Muslim, there were eulogies from a Jewish comedian, a rabbi, and a Mormon. Nothing more needs to be said, other than wondering aloud if the right-wing religious bigots’ heads have finished exploding.

When the request came in, some Ali supporters argued against Trump’s presence at the Louisville, Kentucky, event, said Ali friend Saliha Shakir. But she said Islam preaches inclusiveness.

“None of us care for [Trump’s] rhetoric, but this is what Ali would have wanted,” Shakir said. “He would not have turned him away.”
