Florida man sentenced for threatening to bomb mosques

One wonders what kind of rhetoric circulating would inspire such a thing.

A Florida man was sentenced to one year and one day in prison for threatening to bomb two mosques and shoot their congregants, a federal hate crime, shortly after November’s deadly attacks in Paris, U.S. Justice Department officials said on Monday.

Martin Alan Schnitzler, 43, of Seminole, pleaded guilty in February to one count of obstructing persons in the free exercise of religious beliefs.

Schnitzler faced up to 20 years in prison on the federal charges, but U.S. District Court Judge James D. Whittemore sentenced him to one year plus one day.

Wow, I am surprised that justice was served….wait…rather than 20 years (good for him he does’t look like a “terrorist”), he gets one year plus one day. He’s lucky he wasn’t a Muslim threatening the same things to a Christian church, I’m sure those 20 years would have been served if that was a case.

“In one message, he threatened to “personally have a militia” show up at one of the mosques, and “firebomb you, shoot whoever is there on sight in the head. I don’t care if they’re [expletive] two years old or a hundred.”

I call b.s. on this judge. It should have been 20 years and nothing less.

One year is enough , let him do his time in Saudi Arabia

What he did was give him a sentence that would allow him to serve his sentence in prison. Much easier time. A sentence of 366 days is served in prison, 365 days is served in jail.

He also sentenced a man to a year and a day for resume fraud and fake government badges. Apparently threatening to bomb mosques and slaughter children is equally as horrendous as lying on your resume.
