Trump astounds economists: ‘I love debt…if the economy crashed you could make a deal’

Posted by | May 6, 2016 20:22 | Filed under: Economy News Behaving Badly Politics

Donald Trump thinks he can run the country the way he ran his now-bankrupt casinos.

In an interview Thursday on CNBC, Donald Trump broke with tired clichés about the evils of federal debt accumulation. “I am the king of debt,” he said. “I love debt. I love playing with it.”

But he replaced fearmongering about debt with an even more alarming notion — a bankruptcy of the United States federal government that would incinerate the world economy.

“I would borrow, knowing that if the economy crashed, you could make a deal,” Trump said. “And if the economy was good, it was good. So therefore, you can’t lose.”

With his statement, Trump not only revealed a dangerous ignorance about the operation of the national monetary system and the global economic order, but also offered a brilliant case study in the profound risks of attempting to apply the logic of a private business enterprise to the task of running the United States of America.

    What a TOTAL CLUELESS IDIOT!
So he wants to bankrupt the country so he can profit from it.
    That’s WANTON GREED!
Just shows you how he would treat the entire country like he treats his investors in his companies that he bankrupted.

  2. Suzanne McFly May 6th, 2016 at 20:44

Well he only filed for bankruptcy 3 or 4 times, it is obvious he likes to go into debt, but he does not pay for it. He believes everyone else should pay for his debts, and his ignorant followers believes he is brilliant for thinking this way. Wait till they have to bail him out, they won’t love him so much then…..glad Hillary won’t give him that chance to bankrupt us.

  3. whatthe46 May 6th, 2016 at 20:53

well, he just proved it. if there was any doubt, this should clear it up. he really is a repuke. right down to his dirty bones.

  4. RenegadeRPh May 6th, 2016 at 21:03

So why is he saying he will pay off US debt in 8 years?

    • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 02:07

He has now employed an orange etch a sketch, like Romney’s red one. Anything he has said previously can now be erased with a few shakes and we are supposed to forget it. The problem is that his positions change within hours. There is a whole lot of shaking going on.

      • whatthe46 May 7th, 2016 at 02:12

        so shaken, it’s broken.

        • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 02:14

He can afford a new one every hour if they break down, which they will. They are probably made in Chy-nuh, as he says it.

      • RenegadeRPh May 7th, 2016 at 06:11

Ah, thank you for clearing that up! :-)

  5. Mike May 6th, 2016 at 21:39

It doesn’t matter what he thinks, markets would crash all over the world the day Trump is elected….

Anthony Bourdain’s show, Parts Unknown, has a NJ episode.
I don’t remember who he was speaking to in AC, THE GUY SAYS TO tONY, “dO YOU KNOW WHY tRUMP HAS HIS NAME ON ALL OF HIS PROPERTIES?”
    “nO”, SAYS tONY.
gUY SAYS,”tHIS WAY WHEN HE GOES BANKRUPT, IT’S EASY FOR THE BANKS TO FIND THEM.”

Dammit all to hell, didn’t know I hit the friggin’ caps key and I’m too pissed now to correct it.
    Grrrrrrrrrr.

        Whatchulaughin’boutWillis??!?!?

    • DogsRgoodpeople May 6th, 2016 at 23:38

i saw that episode. tony made a point of pointing out how disgustingly gaudy the trump taj majal was, even when newly finished . it was disgusting and low class. it is what he will do to our country. he is nothing but a punk born into wealth. he’s the result of what bernie sanders would love to put an end to. worthless pos

as has been pointed out in the comments here many times, the 99% percent died for, built the magnificent infrastructure, and worked their asses off for the greatness of america ,99 to 1 more than punks like trump. but wtf………he loves debt and he and his greedbag deceitful mindset are why we have it!

      • DogsRgoodpeople May 6th, 2016 at 23:39

forgot to mention , tony bordain parts unknown is 99% better than any other food/travel show ever produced.

        • fahvel May 7th, 2016 at 02:32

instead of tv proxy, why not travel and eat?

          • DogsRgoodpeople May 8th, 2016 at 11:15

sounds crazy to some i’m sure , but i just am not sure i would enjoy overseas travel. love his show though.

I know my parents, who were Depression and WWII era people, would have a total conniption fit if they could see what has happened to their country, the one that they and those of their generation sacrificed so much for.

It saddens me, that my kids and grand kids won’t truly know or have that deep seated feeling, of how much we really care and cared for this country and it’s achievements and tragedies.
Nor will they know the great people in all walks of life that contributed for the GOOD , the collective good for all citizens…that time has passed I’m afraid. Seems like the whole scheme of things has become superficial, cheapened and neglected.
The X’ers may have a clue, the Millennials, for the most part sure as hell don’t….so the ones that come after them…well, who the hell knows?

As for Wonder Boy, he says make America great again…in what, his image of what “great” is?
No thanks….I’m past the half century mark of my life and I want to live whatever is remaining in a country I can still be somewhat proud of…considering the state we’re in already.

I don’t want to leave this rock worse off because of that greedy heartless prick. I want those that still care enough, to help preserve what little we have left that is still great and good and to build upon that for future generations.
They deserve that at the very least…we can not and must not let the Trumps of the world rule in any way, shape or form…to do so is to doom all of us on the planet.

As for that monstrosity he calls the Taj Mahal…what an insult to the beautiful, stately edifice that India has so lovingly kept intact.
Hell, the architecture is effed up too, there are no onion domes on the Taj…dumb ass doesn’t know Russian nor Indian architecture from his ass or a hole in the ground.

He’s just a simple minded oaf who thinks he’s a Renaissance man….and poor Leonardo is spinning in his grave.

  7. Larry Schmitt May 6th, 2016 at 23:00

For a so-called businessman, he has no clue how the real world works, does he?

    • Mensa Member May 6th, 2016 at 23:33

      >> For a so-called businessman, he has no clue how the real world works, does he?

Billionaires are utterly out-of-touch with working Americans.

      Seriously… no friggin’ clue.

That’s why sub-millionaires are absolutely idiotic if they support Trump.

  8. Mensa Member May 6th, 2016 at 23:29

    >> ‘I love debt…if the economy crashed you could make a deal’

When Bush and the Republicans crashed global capitalism in 2009, it was devastating for working Americans.

But the investment class? It was fantastic for them.

    They bought up everything, cheap.

Americans who owned their homes, now rent them. And the 1% rakes in the big bucks.

    • DogsRgoodpeople May 6th, 2016 at 23:41

don’t think to hard about mensa, at least for three hours after eating

      • Mensa Member May 6th, 2016 at 23:46

        I don’t get it.

        • DogsRgoodpeople May 8th, 2016 at 11:09

what I meant was thinking about the crash and what caused it could make a person throw up. it was poorly articulated on my part.

  9. mistlesuede May 6th, 2016 at 23:55

Trump you f’n moron. The government of a country is non profit. Government is not a business for someone to play with. Our lives and other countries depend on our government to be steady and to be headed by someone intelligent and steady.
    OMG

    • whatthe46 May 7th, 2016 at 00:56

which is why it ticks me off that some are saying they won’t vote for hillary if she’s the nominee, but they don’t want tRump to win. i think its stupid. those people shouldn’t complain if he wins because they didn’t vote.

      • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 01:22

I’m really frightened whatthe. He could win.

        • whatthe46 May 7th, 2016 at 01:41

well, people need to stop being pissy and come together. repukes (what sane ones there are) need to just bite their tongues and do what’s best for this country and put fucking egos aside. the same with fans of Hillary and Bernie. they are both good people. we are dems striving for the same goal, to keep repukes out of office. and this is a very important election year. so the b.s. needs to end.

        • fahvel May 7th, 2016 at 02:29

you should be. If it wins it will be the first day of the end of the world as you know it.

    • bpollen May 7th, 2016 at 01:46

Maybe we can convince our creditors to just take Texas as payment?

      • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 01:54

        I don’t know that they’d want it either. ;)

        • bpollen May 7th, 2016 at 01:59

Would the offer to throw in Cruz help?

          • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 02:03

            I think that may backfire.

            • bpollen May 7th, 2016 at 02:30

I suppose you’re right. Throwing in a fire-bombing peckerhead might not be seen as a sales point. How about we throw in “Oral rape is fine if they’re unconscious” klahoma…

              • mistlesuede May 7th, 2016 at 09:59

That would work for me! How about a package deal for both? Buy one loony tune state, get one free?

                • bpollen May 7th, 2016 at 15:56

But wait! If you order now, we’ll throw in this electric cat sharpener!

                  • mistlesuede May 8th, 2016 at 09:59

And if you call in the next five minutes we will double that offer to two electric cat sharpeners!

          • whatthe46 May 7th, 2016 at 02:08

            you warmonger you.

  10. labman57 May 7th, 2016 at 01:00

Uh, Donnie … unlike you and your business ventures, the United States cannot declare bankruptcy in order to shield itself from its debt obligations.

    • fahvel May 7th, 2016 at 02:27

but the usa will not have anyone to actually enforce a collection of its debt.

This is just the start of ReTrumplikin ekonomick genius. He’s got it all figured out cause remember everyone, he’s gonna Make America Grape Again!

  13. eyelashviper May 7th, 2016 at 06:32

The tragedy in this statement is not that Trump is a flaming idiot, but that his followers could never see the idiocy in it, nor in any of the other basura that he spouts.
They just hoot and holler louder, and rush out and buy a red hat and a yard sign.

  14. Budda May 7th, 2016 at 06:49

Again, the media ( CNBC) didn’t do their job. The media gives this clown loads of air time and don’t challenge any of his BS. The Dems better start demanding equal air time and point out Donnie’s idiocy and the medias culpability.

    • William May 7th, 2016 at 09:21

SPOT ON. I was listening to Racheal Maddow interview Bernie last night. Bernie pointed out that the media completely ignores every issue important during this election, but will swarm like flies on a turd to Trump and anxiously devour every stupid thing that comes out of his bloated maw. Indeed, immediately after the interview MSNBC stopped what they were doing to broadcast Trump calling Hillary an “enabler”. Then of course that became a sound byte played over and over, commented on, analyzed by a quickly convened panel, and critiqued by a cadre of guests. That one idiotic statement spewed by a narcissistic carnival barker completely engulfed the media. Bernie also pointed out that while the media is so engrossed in the ramblings of an idiot, there is a county in West Virginia that has the same mortality rate as Guatemala. The media has stopped reporting the election. It’s simply the Trump reality show.

    • Mensa Member May 7th, 2016 at 11:56

The news media have sold their soul to ratings.

If they ask Donald a hard question, he bans them from future access and the media lose out on the ratings bonanza Trump has created.

  15. mea_mark May 7th, 2016 at 08:49

America’s best chance to make a good ‘deal’ is when it has a reserve currency. If you take that away by letting America default, America and everyone in it gets screwed.

    • Mensa Member May 7th, 2016 at 11:54

Bingo. The US dollar is also the currency for oil. I’m sure that would end if our currency became worth crap.

Trump is arguing for America becoming a third world non-power.

      • mea_mark May 7th, 2016 at 12:07

America will be a ‘Great Third World Power’. :-J

        • robert May 8th, 2016 at 00:50

19 trillion and counting…. We already own that title

  16. Reggie May 7th, 2016 at 10:50

WTF! is this clown trying to lose on purpose or what? he’ll be the only
President that won but tried to lose, lol!

  17. Mensa Member May 7th, 2016 at 13:09

This is why we absolutely can’t have this narcissist tin office.

A crashed economy is a buying opportunity for the rich.

But for working Americans it means lost life-savings, broken marriages, homelessness, hunger and even stress induced suicides.

But, since everything is about Donald Trump, this never occurs to him. He just sees it as an opportunity to get richer.
