Perkins: Christians would be in ‘forced servitude’ of gays without religious freedom laws
Internet pioneer and television host Fernando Espuelas called out Family Research Council President Tony Perkins over the weekend for supporting anti-LGBT laws throughout the U.S. “specifically” for the purpose of discriminating against minority groups. On his Matter of Fact talk show, Espuelas noted that Perkins had supported multiple co-called “religious freedom” laws in the past and…

repukes would come out of the closet if they stopped hiding behind religion.

Actually, I’d prefer the Repukes just stay locked in a closet, a very secure closet… in a galaxy far, far away!

Perkins knows because he and his Family Research Council were Founded by: George Rekers Has Company: The Top Ten Outed Right-Wing Homophobes -Rekers, evangelist and junk scientist
How anti-LGBT is he? Founder of the right-wing Family Research Council and board member of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality, which teaches that homosexuality can be cured. http://www.miaminewtimes.com/news/george-rekers-has-company-the-top-ten-outed-right-wing-homophobes-6528243
Polls prove most Americans are not self hating homophobes, Except Anti-LGBT grifters.

“No one can deny that marriage is a religious ceremony,” Perkins insisted. “And you’re forcing someone to violate their beliefs.”
Actually no.
It’s a civil ceremony that for some idiotic reason requires a government furnished license. People get married every day in completely non religious ceremonies. In fact, in my state you don’t even need a ceremony.

“live out their religious freedom”…
They have the freedom to practice their religion in their homes and churches till their little angel wings carry them away. No one wants to take that away from them. What they don’t have is the right to force anyone else to believe what they do. If they own and operate a business open to the public, they do not have the right to refuse anyone. Society cannot allow them to discriminate against someone they think is a ‘sinner’. If we did, the discrimination would have no end.
Marriage is a civil and legal contract between two people, is is only a religious rite if the couple wants it to be. Obviously, it would be better if it were changed to eliminate the religious ceremony as a legal ceremony.

In the United States, marriage is not a sacred or religious institution. The Christians do not have the dibs on marriage. People in other religions get married. Even agnostics and atheists get married; they even get married outside of the Church. There are people appointed throughout the country who legally can marry two people. They are called in most places justices of the peace. And if marriage is a religious institution, why doesn’t one have to go to a church to obtain a marriage license?
Fifty years ago there were laws enacted to make discrimination against black people a criminal offense. And while there were some businesses that were reluctant to abide by the law, most did it willingly because it was the right thing to do. And decades after these laws were enacted, you don’t see angry letters about business owners who feel they are in forced servitude to black people. And I don’t remember the Alan Colmes Show once being pre-empted by someone on a rant about how racial discrimination should be made legal. Using the same logic, the Church should not tolerate discrimination against anyone based on their sexuality or any other feature, just as God and Jesus would have done….and because it is the right thing to do.

when the Puritans came here to begin with, they brought ideas they adopted from the Dutch, where many had lived before coming here. And one belief they brought with them was that the church had nothing to do about marriage it was not a religious matter…..mostly about money and property maybe. And a great number of people get married outside of the church.
I see what those kind of Christians are doing is not really Christian at all, and not how Jesus would handle it. Also, in over 3,000 times the Bible says to take care of the poor. If one takes all of the verses that may be talking about gays and compare it to the ones talking about helping the poor, it is clear to see that the main focus of Jesus is taking care of the poor. THAT is a really important part of the Bible. That is where real Christians will place their interest, not in discrimination.
I would say that IF businesses are privately owned, AND want to be able to refuse service to whomever they want to……and can make it with no help from government money. they should be able to discriminate against whomever they want. HOWEVER, there should be a requirement to place a sign on their doors listing every category of people they want to discriminate against and then everybody else can clearly see their list, and choose to boycott those businesses. Let’s see how long they decide they want to discriminate. I certainly would never shop somewhere that tolerated discrimination against gays or any other group. They should not be allowed to discriminate unless it is clearly marked on their door. If enough people do the right thing, those people will soon be out of business and nobody will have to deal with them.
In small towns, this will also make some people start looking more critically at the business owner. Anything that owner does in their private life will be splashed all over the place.

Marriage is a “sacred institution”? Since when? It’s been a pagan ritual long before the Christians came and adopted said pagan rituals as “sacred”.
