Louisiana governor signs executive order protecting LGBT community
Governor John Bel Edwards is doing what other states are not.
Click here for reuse options!Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards just signed an executive order that provides protection for the LGBT community in state jobs and contractors that deal with the state. The executive order also rescinds former Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal’s controversial Marriage and Conscience Executive Order.
This new order provides “employment protections for state employees and employees of state contractors on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, political affiliation, disability, or age,” according to a press release published today by the governor’s office.
It also “prohibits discrimination in services provided by state agencies, and recognizes an exemption for churches and religious organizations.”
While the order helps protect the LGBT community, there is still no state law that protects them from employment discrimination in all areas of the private sector.

Now what was that about there being no difference between politicians regardless of which consonant ( D or R) follows their name?

Good for John Bel…
But shame on him for stating that he’ll support a bill requiring a 72 hour waiting period for abortions.

I am pro-choice but I support the 72 hour wait. Only I wouldn’t do it like the republicans want to. And I hope that when people read this they will keep that in mind…..I am not thinking like a republican.
I feel the 72 hours should not mean long waits, driving hundreds of miles, and should be used as a chance to think things out carefully and to prevent what happened to my friend. When she was 15 she got pregnant and her parents marched her off to get an abortion before she could even decide what she wanted to do, it was all over. I don’t want the 72 hours to be punishment. AND, almost nobody gets confirmation and goes straight to have an abortion. The 72 hours can be from the time the call is made to make the appointment. That would be maybe the soonest that anybody could get in anyway.
The republicans just want to make it more difficult for women to make their choice. I just want everyone to think it through and make sure that is what they really want to do. I have known women who regretted having an abortion as well as some who regretted NOT having one. An abortion is a major decision and it can’t be undone.
