Your feedback and open thread

As usual, you can post anything you like here, but I like to use this space to get user feedback as well.

So, a couple of questions while you’re here.

  1. Do you like the way original articles are embedded on post pages, or would you prefer a short sentence or two from us and then go to the original article on its own page?
  2. Do you use this site on mobile and are you having any issues with it?
  3. Do you like the way the site looks better than the Drudge format we used for a time? The advantage of that format is that I can put videos, Tweets and other media right on the front page.
  4. Do you like the way the site looked when the front page looked like this: https://web.archive.org/web/20130112210339/http://www.alan.com/
  5. If I move this site to liberaland.com, and make alan.com a landing page that leads there and give general info, do you care and will you be just as happy if this site is at that new address?

Thanks for the feedback!

Alan

I like the current format, I have looked at this site from my phone and it was user friendly from my point of view. I appreciate the concern of the creators of the site have for the users.

      Is that your doggie?

      • Suzanne McFly February 18th, 2016 at 11:49

Yes he is, that is my Frankie. He is now waiting at the Bridge for his Mommy, cancer took my baby. I had 10 beautiful years with my buddy. Is that your beautiful doggie? Is he a pitt? Frankie was and he was the most loving animal ever.

Oh my…sorry…I feel for ya…Yep, Noodles and he is an American Red…Love the guy…he is a people dog, and he has more friends than I do…He is a legend at the UPS office…they stop by and visit my dog…give him treats, and wave at me…

          • Suzanne McFly February 18th, 2016 at 13:50

Well Noodles is beautiful, give him kisses for me :)

Alan…as an old person, who struggles with the new fangled browsers, phones, and computers, anything that distracts from just getting to the article should be avoided…The embedded block is great…going to other links is a pain…Too Much information is hard to sift through…Drudge sucks…but, as you can see in the photo….My hovel needs faster internet……and possibly some windows…that is an eight foot fence post, by the way…Spring is on the way…It is raining as I type…

Nice fire hazard you have there. At least its quiet

  3. Um Cara February 18th, 2016 at 11:34

Spend 20 minutes trying to use the site on your phone, Alan. I honestly don’t know of a site with a worse mobile user experience. Tablet experience is acceptable, web experience is OK as well. Content is great!

    • Alan February 18th, 2016 at 12:17

We are working to change it for the better. What specific problems do you have on mobile with our site?

      • tracey marie February 19th, 2016 at 11:36

Could not answer you, his phone will not allow it. :)

  4. mistlesuede February 18th, 2016 at 14:49

This is one of the problems I keep encountering. On the story titled “First sitting president to visit Cuba in 88 years” we have weather conditions somewhere instead. So we have to use the link provided to the site where it was supposed to be linked from anyway. I’ve gotten used to the embedded articles with no overview since I thought that was the way you wanted to go and I like not having to venture to those other sites anyway. It works well most of the time, but I’ve had my computer do some weird stuff a number of times when trying to read embedded ones from Raw Story. I end up shutting my laptop down for safety.

    • Alan February 18th, 2016 at 15:40

When you go to the Cuba story, the embedded site has a weather forecast at top, but you scroll down and see the story. Some sites work better with embeds than others.

      • mistlesuede February 18th, 2016 at 16:07

I did that the first time. It was weather down through the entire thing. Now it seems to be working, but really isn’t much of a story, is it?
Could the problems with RS be because they have too much advertising?

        • Alan February 18th, 2016 at 18:02

some sites put too much advertising in the wrong places

          • Budda February 18th, 2016 at 22:50

            You can say that again

  5. maggie February 18th, 2016 at 22:50

bernie is over at msnbc town hall promising the moon to voters ….really it’s amazing….who can disagree they are all good things….it’s about what can actually get done…he’s literally promising every single person who asks him a question…he’s bernie the fairy god mother….I just want to put him in a dress and give him a wand…I love it but sooooo unrealistic

  6. maggie February 19th, 2016 at 02:23

oh the Bernie people are so agitated…HRC has had an incredible week in endorsements it’s looking good for in SC….Nevada? competitive? yes.

  7. robert February 19th, 2016 at 02:32

Do you like the way the site looks better than the Drudge format we used for a time?

keep it the way it is

  8. Hirightnow February 19th, 2016 at 09:09

Pretty good article here, if you don’t mind snark and the occasional dirty word.(Who am I kidding? With this crowd? I may as well ask if a toddler doesn’t mind ice cream for dinner!)

  9. mistlesuede February 19th, 2016 at 10:32

Alan, I’m wondering if you are getting any answers to your questions? I looked at the old front page from your link and I do actually think I prefer it. There are things I like about both styles though. I do like the articles more in that, what I would call, block style and the Liberaland favorites list on the old style page. That is handy. Maybe you could re-formulate one with the good aspects of both?
I am not familiar with the Drudge Report style, but I was linked to a story there and do not remember liking it.
I do like the embedding of the stories and do miss the short overview, but have gotten used to it not being available. Because of reasons we’ve spoken about before, I prefer not going to the sites directly and giving them clicks. I do like the link you provide in case we want to though, or when the embed does not work sometimes.
As for the final question, IDK?
    Hope this helps.

This is interesting, coming out of Oregon. The Sheriff of Grant County, Glenn Palmer, is being investigated over his alleged support for the nitwits of Malheur, as he met with them and had many other contacts, clearly in support of their tactics. At the time of the take down of Ammon and others, they were all on their way to meet with Palmer.
Hopefully the feds will get in on this, as the charges could be very serious for a LEO.

I like the way the site looks in question 4, because I can put videos, Tweets, etc. on the front page. But I also think the site looks great now. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    • eyelashviper February 19th, 2016 at 11:47

LOVE how the site looks, easy to see, peruse, and read articles…thanks!!!

      • Alan February 19th, 2016 at 11:50

        which version?

        • eyelashviper February 19th, 2016 at 11:51

Four? Is that how it is now…??

          • Alan February 19th, 2016 at 13:05

no, question 4 above is a different look than the current site

            • eyelashviper February 19th, 2016 at 14:06

OK, then I like the current site.
Thanks, as always, for being so responsive to your viewers….

  12. mea_mark February 19th, 2016 at 12:00

As for question 4 … That looks ok to me, I just want to see the stories in chronological order. At the very least, I would like to see the latest three to five highlighted.

Photographer Kai Caemmerer became fascinated with these urban plans, and in 2015 he traveled to China to explore and document them. His series, “Unborn Cities,”
depicts a completely new type of urban development. “Unlike in the US,
where cities often begin as small developments and grow in accordance to
the local industries, these new Chinese cities are built to the point
of near completion before introducing people,” he told Business Insider.

Yet again, goats help the human race.

Fungi in goat stomachs may brew better biofuels…”fungi found in goat and sheep stomachs can break down vegetation in a way that may be useful for biofuel production. Most biofuel in the United States comes from crops like corn, but growing corn takes a lot of land, and using it for biofuels may drive up food prices. So the industry is increasingly looking toward nonfood sources of biomass like grass and wood.”
“Fungi isolated from the feces of goats and sheep can break down wood better than the standard processes in place. Plus, these fungi can change which digestive enzymes they produce in response to what they are eating, making them more flexible than traditional methods.”

Either the sky has fallen or charles Koch is about to throw in the towel ?
    ———————–

Sanders, a Vermont independent senator and democratic socialist,
consistently cites the Kochs as he warns against the country’s shift
toward an “oligarchic society” where a handful of billionaires control
the economic and political system as the gap between the rich and poor
    widens.

It turns out, Charles Koch thinks he’s right — at least, when it comes to a “rigged” political and economic system.

The chairman and chief executive of Koch Industries, in a Washington Post op-ed,
wrote: “The senator is upset with a political and economic system that
is often rigged to help the privileged few at the expense of everyone
else, particularly the least advantaged. He believes that we have a
two-tiered society that increasingly dooms millions of our fellow
citizens to lives of poverty and hopelessness. He thinks many
corporations seek and benefit from corporate welfare while ordinary
citizens are denied opportunities and a level playing field.

“I agree with him,” he wrote.

No response from the Sanders campaign.

Believe NOTHING the Kochs say, or write..

      • robert February 21st, 2016 at 22:30

i don’t believe koch writes anything it all falls on people who interview him and doesn’t fact check

    • bpollen February 22nd, 2016 at 05:47

“I agree with him,” he wrote.”

His next statement was left out: “That’s the way, uh-huh uh huh, I LIKE it!”

      • robert February 22nd, 2016 at 09:35

there was plenty more after …

Koch writes that Sanders often sounds as though he’s running as much
against him as actual presidential candidates. He says he opposes
Sanders’ desire to expand the federal government’s “control over
        people’s lives.”

But Koch writes policies that pick winners and
losers have perpetuated a “cycle of control, dependency, cronyism and
poverty” in the U.S. That impedes progress and moves the country away
from a “society of mutual benefit,” he wrote.

Koch also says he shares Sanders’ views on the need for criminal justice reform.

So is this an endorsement in the making?

        “Hardly,” Koch writes.

And that’s probably OK with Sanders.

the koch bros are apolitical…it’s whoever they can buy…nothing else matters

Newt Gingrich to Fox News: You ‘Invented’ Donald Trump

    Newt
Gingrich is known for speaking his mind, often bluntly and without
regards to politeness. That personality trait came in handy Monday on Fox & Friends, when the former House speaker told the right-leaning gabfest’s hosts they “invented” the Donald Trump candidacy.

Starting in early 2011, Donald Trump appeared on Fox & Friends every Monday morning for an appropriately titled segment: “Mondays With Trump.”
When the relationship between the reality TV star and the morning talk
show came under scrutiny, upon Trump’s entrance into the presidential
race, the cable news network axed the segment.

    After
Steve Doocy proclaimed Monday that the “establishment” GOP is
“uncomfortable” with Trump, his co-host Brian Kilmeade added: “The
billionaire is spending the least amount of money and running away with
    this thing.”

And that’s when Gingrich got real.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/02/22/newt-to-fox-you-invented-donald-trump.html

“Well, that’s because of you guys,” he asserted in the clip first spotted by Media Matters.
“Donald Trump gets up in the morning, tweets to the entire planet at no
cost, picks up the phone, calls you, has a great conversation for about
eight minutes, which would have cost him a ton in commercial money, and
meanwhile his opponents are all out there trying to raise the money to
    run an ad.”

    Clearly
vexed by Gingrich’s suggestion, Kilmeade fired back that “people make
decisions”—i.e., Trump got all that free airtime because “from day one
he made himself available to big and small [outlets].” Meanwhile, the
Fox host said, past and present candidates like Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush,
and Hillary Clinton haven’t readily made media appearances.

But Newt was not backing down. “Look, you could say that Trump is the candidate Fox & Friends invented,” he fired back. “He was on your show I think more than any other show.”

    “Every Monday,” Doocy helpfully added.

“It was always a happy, positive conversation,” Gingrich noted, driving the point home.

    • robert February 22nd, 2016 at 15:15

trump was and is on F&F, O’Reilly, Hannity and on the record

Name one other candidate Gop or Dem who gets this much free press ? Its amazing how most everyone is standing around wondering why trump isnt spending as much as the rest.

one thing is for sure, if trump does become president He’s going to be somebody’s ‘ boy ‘ @ fox news

  20. maggie February 22nd, 2016 at 14:52

the national review is dumping ted cruz by saying he’s like HRC…laughing my azz off that is how they are getting rid of him ;)
