David Bowie, Natalie Cole, and now Alan Rickman.

He became one of Britain’s best-loved acting stars thanks to roles including Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films and Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling led the tributes, describing him as “a magnificent actor and a wonderful man”.

She wrote on Twitter: “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death.”

Heartbroken today. I absolutely adored this man and his body of work, his wide range of characters he played so perfectly, his voice and manner of speaking, just everything about him. My favorite role he played was Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. I will watch it again very soon, but with a very, very heavy heart.

I will miss him so much. He is gone way too soon. :(

    Rest in peace.
