Does California require proof of insurance to obtain a driver’s license?

    • Obewon January 8th, 2016 at 09:44

Of course if you own a car, or else you must rent with insurance. Ya’ll realize non U.S. citizens can’t vote with an ID? The document cannot be used for certain federal purposes like registering to vote!

why would you be required to to show proof of insurance when getting a driver’s license? not everyone who gets a license owns a car. one can get a driver’s license at 16 and they don’t own cars. i didn’t need to show proof of insurance, neither did my sons. you only need to show proof of insurance when you’re going to take a driving test.

        • Jimmy Fleck January 8th, 2016 at 10:03

Is there no driving test required to get a driver’s license? This license does entitle them to drive on the public streets right? I have had to show proof of insurance to get a license in TN. My kids had to show proof of insurance to get their licenses as well. They don’t technically own a car, but they are operating a car and by law are required to have insurance. That was my question. I don’t think these people are trying to vote illegally. I do think a lot of them will end up driving without insurance which is a big problem across the nation – and not just with illegal immigrants. Twice people in my family have been hit by uninsured drivers. It is ridiculous that not only do I have to pay for my own insurance but I have to pay to protect myself against uninsured motorists as well.

Yes there is a driving test. did you not read my post. i said you must show proof if you’re taking the driving test. it doesn’t have to be your insurance (personal) but the car (whoever it belongs to that you’re testing in) must have ins.

Exactly. Jimmy is a few eggs short of a dozen on most every topic. Very much the troll on this website.

          • whatthe46 January 8th, 2016 at 10:16

that being said, and since you acknowlege that it isn’t just immigrants who drive uninsured, i wonder then what was the reason for the question?

            • Jimmy Fleck January 8th, 2016 at 10:30

The reason for the question is that I feel this program is going to make the uninsured motorist problem worse.

              • Obewon January 8th, 2016 at 20:52

Insurance is only available to drivers with a license! Do you now realize that you were lied to by xenophobic GOP TV & RWNJ radio?

The mere 24.6% of registered voters, remaining Repubs don’t want any legacy minorities to have an ID, that’ll be easily converted upon U.S. naturalization for valid VOTER ID’s!

I’ve never had to show proof of insurance in order to get a driver’s license. Kind of weird that you do. Proof of insurance is generally only required when registering a vehicle.

            • mistlesuede January 8th, 2016 at 16:00

Have you noticed that everything is kind of weird that comes out of Jimmy the troll?

          • mistlesuede January 8th, 2016 at 16:07

            From the very brief piece:

“One year after AB 60 implementation there are 605,000 more drivers on the road who have passed all testing requirements and demonstrated their knowledge of California’s rules of the road.”

No one has to have insurance to get their license. You can’t buy insurance for something you don’t own. The car they use to take the test has to be insured and the proof of insurance would be the card stored in the car they use to take it. Duh!

How odd that “twice people in YOUR family have been hit by uninsured drivers.” In my entire lifetime, I’ve never known anyone that that happened to. Very odd.

            • Jimmy Fleck January 8th, 2016 at 16:13

Sorry for not capturing the uninsured motorists on video. So no way to make you believe my statement I guess.

              • mistlesuede January 8th, 2016 at 16:23

That makes no sense whatsoever, just like all of your comments.

                • Jimmy Fleck January 8th, 2016 at 16:28

Are you not the same “mistlesuede” who didn’t believe a CBS news report because there was no video to back up what they reported?

                  • mistlesuede January 8th, 2016 at 16:35

Are you mentally impaired? Oh, what am I saying? LOL I’ve read your comments on various threads. OF COURSE you are. Ah hahaha.
See how this works is there are different threads with different stories and people make different comments. The comments don’t all mesh together and refer to each thread. Well, that is unless you are in troll Jimmy world.
                    LMAO!

    • maggie January 8th, 2016 at 19:11

sure….if they get stopped they will have to provide that

    • dewired4u January 8th, 2016 at 20:10

they require insurance when a vehicle is registered not when a license is issued.

  4. maggie January 8th, 2016 at 19:11
