292,000 New Jobs In December
The unemployment rate stays steady at 5%.
The jobs report shows the U.S. economy is doing just fine, providing a break from the “gloom and doom” in China, says Tony Roth, chief investment officer at Wilmington Trust. A hefty increase in jobs means more Americans will have money to spend, boding well for corporate profits. “It’s a very bullish signal on stocks,” he says.

Mensa Member January 8th, 2016 at 09:26
I haven’t listened to Sean Hannity to find-out why this jobs report is bad.
(I just heard that on the radio.)
Obewon January 8th, 2016 at 09:37
292,000 new December 2015 jobs equals 3 years of Bush Jr / Cheney jobs totaling a mere 1.08 M eight year total! America’s already Great Again. As of 2015, 15 M Private Obama Jobs created. Vs Q4-08 $12.7 T GDP shrinking -9% APR vs 2014 U.S. record $17.5 T GDP growing +3% APR = +$5 T GDP! BLS March 2014-> https://www.flickr.com/photos/speakerpelosi/13630053153/in/photostream/

Most of these jobs are part time and low wage full time jobs. Our manufacturing sector is dead. Currently less then 10% of our workforce is employed in manufacturing. You cannot sustain an economy with that low a number.
Tim Coolio January 8th, 2016 at 20:49
I see lots of people with new cars and that takes more than part time jobs.
Kevin777 January 9th, 2016 at 04:48
US vehicle sales reached an all time record in 2015. The one manufacturing sector roaring ahead right now. The strong dollar is killing the export reliant manufacturers currently.

billionaire parasites like tRump outsource jobs to china and mexico. don’t see you crying about that
GayMarriedGuy January 8th, 2016 at 22:12
Trump builds hotels and condos here in America. He has thousands of construction workers on the payroll.
whatthe46 January 8th, 2016 at 22:14
Donald Trump is running for president with a message of bringing jobs
back to the U.S., but at many of his businesses the Republican
real-estate mogul has had a habit of importing foreign workers. Trump
owns companies that have sought to import at least 1,100 foreign workers
on temporary visas since 2000, according to U.S. Labor Department data reported by Reuters. In July alone, a Trump-owned resort in Florida applied to import 70 foreign workers to serve as cleaners, cooks and wait staff.
GayMarriedGuy January 8th, 2016 at 22:20
Cleaners cooks and wait staff. Does not surprise me. Americans are so lazy they will not do that kind of work. American workers want all the pay but do not want to do any of the work. I own a small business with 7 employees. I know how tough it is to find someone to fill a position.
whatthe46 January 8th, 2016 at 22:23
LIAR!!!!!!!!!!! he hires them and so do private citizens, because it’s cheaper than paying fair wages to American citizens. he outsource because it’s cheaper. make no mistake about it. he also get tax breaks on hiring immigrants. and the sorry part is, you’re too fk’n ignorant to give a damn, as long as you can make excuses for the behavior, you’re fine.
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 00:29
Nobody is going to pay a middle class wage for a menial job like a janitor maid or kitchen staff.
wpadon January 9th, 2016 at 00:35
Janitor position in the mill pays $20 an hour.
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 00:37
Here in Los Angeles $20 an hour rents you a studio apartment in South Central LA
wpadon January 9th, 2016 at 00:44
I’m not aware of many steel mills in LA. Here in Pittsburgh, $20 an hour with paid medical insurance will get you a three bedroom, one and a half bath on a 5,000 square foot lot in a decent school district.
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 00:56
$20 an hour for a janitor??? Sounds like a union job. Now you know why America cannot compete and why the steel industry in Western Pa is almost dead.
bpollen January 9th, 2016 at 03:28
Tell me, O Great Business Maven, how do you offshore janitorial work? Can workers in China compete to clean American buildings? How about Bangladesh? How many workers in Bangladesh are currently working in American hotels and businesses in, say, Vegas?
Your “we can’t compete” argument is ridiculous when you are talking about janitorial jobs. And it’s pretty telling that you use such an argument when talking about service type jobs. Yeah, it’s the union’s fault that American janitorial work can’t be done by workers in Sri Lanka… remotely.
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 10:05
Janitors here in LA make poverty wages because only immigrants will do those jobs.
bpollen January 9th, 2016 at 15:52
Great Job! O Maven of Business, you refute your own “we can’t compete” argument. Are these immigrants to Germany or France or UAE or Greece? Nope. Your argument boils down to “only immigrants are willing to accept the pay and working conditions.” That doesn’t say “we can’t compete.” That says “we employ the desperate” and pocket the difference.
I gotta wonder, what with the brilliant business sense you display, how poorly is your business doing?
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 18:21
My business is doing fine. When businesses or individuals file for bankruptcy I buy the assets for pennies on the dollar. The 2008 meltdown was a lot of fun for me. I also own rental property with 12 units. I only have one minimum wage employee on the payroll and he is easily replaceable. my other 5 employees are very valuable to me and they are paid accordingly. I used to have a total of 7 but I had to fire one last week for drug use. He thought smoking pot was more important than his 65000 a year job.
bpollen January 9th, 2016 at 18:26
Didn’t bother addressing how you refute your own argument, but do spend an inordinate amount of time trying to impress me with your business acumen. And it must be true because everything jagoffs post is always true on the intertubes.
wpadon January 9th, 2016 at 09:58
The steel industry is far from dead here in Pittsburgh, and we survive by producing a higher quality product than our overseas competitors.
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 18:24
The steel industry is nothing compared to what it used to be in the 1960s and 1970s. Yes there are a few steel Mills left but only a fraction of what it was.
whatthe46 January 9th, 2016 at 00:37
do you ever re-read the bullshit you post? these mfer’s don’t want to pay minimum wage. they prefer to pay less than and they get big tax breaks. first you fk’n complain that our American citizens don’t want the job, then you say, the money makers don’t want to pay a living wage. there are millions of citizens that would take on those job at fair wages. they have to feed their children, clothe them, keep a roof over their heads, put food on the table and some need it to pay for their education. we have parents working 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet. if you want to support ignorance and stupidity and hypocrites, then go the fk on ahead. this conversation is OVER!
GayMarriedGuy January 9th, 2016 at 01:04
I never said the employers should pay a living wage. A living wage should only be earned by skilled workers who took the time to get an education and/or obtain skills that are relevant in today’s job market. If you are a non skilled worker who works a cash register at Wal Mart or slings burgers at a fast food joint then you deserve the poverty you live in and the 14 to 16 hour days to make ends meet because you have to work 2 jobs. You people think that a $15 an hour wage is going to fix the poverty problem? The only thing it is going to do is increase labor costs and raise prices and cost jobs. Our local CVS store just got rid of most of its human cashiers and replaced them with self checkout stands. There used to be 4 to 6 people working in there now there are only 2 at the most. You are not lifting these people off the floor with these higher minimum wages. You are just raising the floor up closer to the rest of us.
Mike January 9th, 2016 at 06:57
Now I’m wondering if you really are a small business owner. While salesman, managers, and tradesmen are very valuable employees, unskilled workers can make and break a small business. My family had a small cabinet company (20 guys) while I was growing up and the most loyal and trustworthy employees we had were the laborers.
Building and installing a project takes a lot of moving, expediting, loading, unloading, etc…and it has to be done right or your product is ruined before it get on site…than there’s prepping a site, and cleaning up when your done…actually the most important part of the job (from the customers standpoint) No, I’m not agreeing with anything you said about American workers, and in fact, it sounds like you’ve got a few things to learn about being a better boss. You might want to consider the possibility you might be at fault.

“If you are a non skilled worker who works a cash register at Wal Mart or slings burgers at a fast food joint then you deserve the poverty you live in”
Right-wing “compassionate conservatism” in a nutshell.

I’ve owned 3 self founded IT corps since 1980. I’ve never had any difficulty hiring the best for +50% more than my competitor cheapskates. I save a fortune on retraining since I’ve experienced so little turnover. Cybersecurity & database consulting earns and pays a fortune.
Had you realistically considered your workers as your profit center, you’d have had no problem finding very well qualified income earners, who are paid well. In NYC popular database IT workers are paid $50/hr+ with some skilled workers earning $125/hr.
Good luck with your ‘Donnie and a xenophobes dream until 2016~.’

Five Bankruptcies Donnie “has thousands of (Undocumented Immigrant) construction workers on the payroll.”
Trump humped for $300 M by bottom fisher Icahn paying a mere $33 M! “Trump Entertainment found itself on the brink of liquidation multiple times”-Trump Taj Mahal Bankruptcy Judge Gross! “Lenders controlled by Icahn provided Trump Entertainment $20 million in bankruptcy financing to help fund operations until the turnaround plan takes effect.
Under the plan, the Icahn lender group gets control of both casinos by converting about $292 million of debt into equity in the reorganized company. The Icahn group will also provide $13.5 million to fund the Taj Mahal after it exits court protection.”

You cannot sustain a manufacturing economy when the private sector decides to send the jobs offshore to be done by people making $2 per hour, while any attempt to restrict the offshore movement of jobs out of the country is denounced as “big government”.
Can’t have it both ways. If our economy is unsustainable it is a direct result of the decisions made in the private sector, which some would have us believe is the answer to every problem known to civilized man.
Except of course when the private sector screws up as in the gulf oil spill, then the same people are indignant that the government did not fix everything in a day or two..
Mensa Member January 8th, 2016 at 21:55
>> You cannot sustain a manufacturing economy when the private sector decides to send the jobs offshore to be done by people making $2 per hour,
And get a tax deduction for doing it!
Yet, when Obama tries to end the tax break for exporting jobs, the Republicans oppose him.
StoneyCurtisll January 9th, 2016 at 09:15
Obama is ‘anti-Business”..(they say)
Trump is Anti-worker…
These knuckle dragging fools that support trump just do not understand.
Mike January 8th, 2016 at 22:09
While there is some truth to the “low wage” claim, I don’t see how you can blame that on O. The corporate world has found a way to lay off 1/3 of their workforce and scare the other 2/3’s into working 1/3 harder for the same pay…new jobs aren’t paying a lot because corporations can get away with it…plain and simple…are you advocating the president establish some sort of living wage…???

round of trickle-down tax cuts!
Maxx44 January 8th, 2016 at 13:12
Wonder how many more jobs would have been created over the last 7 years if the GOP didn’t try to obstruct every single thing Obama has tried to do?
