White Pastor Repents On Behalf Of White People
A white Chicago pastor wants to “confess on behalf of my white brothers and sisters” to repent for their sins against blacks.
Pastor Daniel Hill said, “We repent of the violent acts done in the name of racism. We repent of the apathy that has caused so many of us to sit on the sidelines.”
On CNN [Tuesday], he explained to Brooke Baldwin that it’s important to acknowledge the sins carried out by white people against black people over the course of American history. And to this day, he said, society has “created a narrative that black people could be dehumanized” and “devalued.”

Maybe we should just stop demonizing people because of skin color, then we don’t have to worry about repenting. 2 birds, 1 stone.

And an entire race is not responsible for what a previous generation did to another race. No one in my family was involved in the slave trade. Do we hold the descendants of the Huns responsible for the horrible things they did?

Repenting is big in their book, even if you’re not to blame.
granpa.usthai December 1st, 2015 at 19:02
does seem to be just a bit too greedy to accept the benefits of living in the USA without sharing some THANK YOU’s passed around.
Larry Schmitt December 1st, 2015 at 19:53
But he’s not talking about saying thank you, he’s talking about repenting for the sins of an entire race.

He can’t repent for all white people. He can only repent for himself and his actions. But by recognizing that all white people need to repent, he makes a great and courageous service.

if you’re living in the USA, you’ve benefited in some way, whether it be from the stepping stones laid down from previous generations, or maybe a step or two ahead of where you would have started out?
Is it really going to destroy our great nation to say ‘THANK YOU’ to the descendants of African Americans/Native Americans for the FORCED contributions their ancestors gave in building this great nation?
and-
while we’re at it, let’s give a big thanks for all peoples past and present who have/are giving so much for US.
Suzanne McFly December 1st, 2015 at 23:24
No, we are not responsible for what people have done in the past but we are responsible to not carry on behavior just because it does not directly have an affect on us. We can’t stand by and let racism go unchallenged. Just because I am not a person of color does not mean I will not speak up against racist terms. Many people have just sat by as derogatory terms have been used by other groups because we are not part of that specific group. For example, you cannot deny that it is common for some people to assume white people are more trusting than people of other races and trust is just the tip of the iceberg. I am not a silent passenger on this flight and I am not planning to go silent anytime soon.

good for you.
fahvel December 2nd, 2015 at 11:33
what horrible things did the Huns do?
Larry Schmitt December 2nd, 2015 at 11:56
A little rape, a little pillaging, on their trek through the Roman Empire. Earned Attila the name “Scourge of God.” I’m judging him by today’s standards, of course.
Wendy Sibley December 3rd, 2015 at 02:47
All white people benefit from white privilege and the continuing pervasive doctrine of white supremacy, whether they’re conscious of it or not.

allison1050 December 1st, 2015 at 18:32
Stand in front of your congregation and say that.
whatthe46 December 1st, 2015 at 18:41
so they can drag him out and burn him at the stakes?
allison1050 December 1st, 2015 at 18:53
They’d probably run him out of town.
granpa.usthai December 1st, 2015 at 18:48
he’s here in LL.
and maybe the courage that others need to step up and follow.
stephen matlock December 1st, 2015 at 21:18
He pastors a congregation that is consciously trying to face racism and white supremacy and to deal with it directly. As with all churches and all pastors and all congregations, it’s not perfect. But the attempt is being made, and it is helping to make it seem reasonable for other churches to do the same.
mfr4 December 1st, 2015 at 18:46
So, what is this supposed to accomplish? I’m afraid he can’t “repent” on behalf of anyone. It’s not a bad thing but I doubt if it brings about much change in equality.
stephen matlock December 1st, 2015 at 21:17
In one sense, it doesn’t accomplish anything. He can only repent for himself.
But in another sense, he is laying down his life in service to say “I am repenting of my part and participation in white supremacy and racism.” And by doing so, he sets an example for other white Christians of good will to follow.
Repenting of racism and white supremacy is an act that will take a lifetime of actions.

sadly, he’s only one man. and I don’t think the rwnj t.v. stations or radio talk shows will give him a louder voice.
granpa.usthai December 1st, 2015 at 18:47
one small step towards the light
will encourage others to follow.
BTW:
thanks, brother
Red Mann December 1st, 2015 at 20:19
Now how about repenting for Christian behavior toward LGBT, women, immigrants, liberals, non-Christians and humanity in generl.
whatthe46 December 1st, 2015 at 23:29
oh, he would be seriously crucified for that.

I have generated 88,000 dollars so far this year working online and I am a full time student. I am attached with an online business entity that I heard about and I have earned such great cash. It is really user friendly and I feel myself lucky to have that option. Why not try this.
