Ben Carson On Planned Parenthood Shooting: ‘There is no Saint Here in This Equation’
Republican reactions to the mass shooting at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado Springs Friday continue to emerge at a bare trickle, but none of them have been all that surprising. On Sunday morning’s This Week, fading Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson followed the victim-blaming template set forth by Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger while the shootings were still going on. Like Kinzinger, Carson was asked to react to a statement from the state director of Planned Parenthood, and his reply was oddly familiar:
RADDATZ: Dr. Carson, the Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountain Vicki Cowart said that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country.
Do you agree with that?
CARSON: Unfortunately, there’s a lot of extremism coming from all areas. It’s one of the biggest problems that I think is threatening to — to tear our country apart. We — we get into our separate corners and we hate each other, we want to destroy those with whom we disagree.
It comes from both sides. So, you know, there is — there is no saint here in this — in this equation.
But what we really have to start asking ourselves is what can we do as a nation to rectify this situation?
How can we begin to engage in rational discussion?
You know, all you have to do is go to the — an article on the Internet and go to the comments section, you don’t get five comments down before people start calling each other names and acting like idiots, you know.
Aside from the obvious differences, like the fact that no cops have ever been killed in a comments section or that no one from Planned Parenthood is making up stories about watching a movie in which Republicans commit a murder, Carson’s reply bears an almost verbatim similarity to…READ MORE

“(The rhetoric) comes from both sides.”
Uh Ben, there’s a subtle difference.
The rhetoric of right wing politicos has resulted in innocent people being murdered.
Red Mann November 29th, 2015 at 19:37
And one side is telling the truth and it ain’t your side, Ben.

Can’t just say the bad guy was an a$$hole for shooting people, just had to throw in their feelings about PP! And they Obama politicized everything!
Wendy Sibley November 29th, 2015 at 15:19
The day you hear about an abortion-rights advocate going to a “pro-life” church and start shooting people, you can begin talking about “both sides doing it”.
Until then, go to hell, you sick F#ck.

Total BS. If Robert hadn’t killed a cop Ben could’ve lauded him as a Great American Hero. Since he can’t villify PP and sanctify Robert, the best he can do is call the (cough cough) dispute “a draw”!

“It comes from both sides.
No, it doesn’t, Prince Valium. The hateful rhetoric has been an exclusive behavior of the right for the last 7 years.
The so-called media hasn’t called out BS like yours as it should. And our nation is the worse for it.

The Republican Party started down the Negative path in the sixties and never looked back.
Red Mann November 29th, 2015 at 19:34
Since the advent of the Tea Party, it’s been in negative free fall.
Red Mann November 29th, 2015 at 19:36
But, but, Bill Ayers, the Weathermen! Just because it was 50 years ago and wasn’t repeated still makes it both sides!!111!!!!! /s

It comes from both sides, Yea Right, this Thing should just crawl back into the toilet he came out of. There, now he has something concrete to talk about.

I think Jesus would start out with the simple phrase “Thou shall not kill” Ben…he wouldn’t equivocate on that point like you do on everything including a domestic terrorist’s violence. Just for once go out on a limb and condemn illegal and violent acts and the killing of citizens in the US. I know your base won’t be comfortable with the idea that killing is wrong but you profess to be a physician and you are bound by your oath of “first do no harm”. You should denounce murder at every opportunity. Too bad you won’t because secretly you are giggling about the deaths of anyone at a Planned Parenthood Clinic. What a sick man and terrible representative of the medical community.
dewired4u November 29th, 2015 at 16:59
Can someone show me the “left” that is advocating violence, I must have missed it.
whatthe46 November 29th, 2015 at 18:33
we’ve all missed it.

“It comes from both sides.” Right then and there Radatz should have challenged him for one example of a dem or liberal political leader making inflammatory statements that demonize the right. The “liberal media” doesn’t have the nerve to challenge this meme.
robert November 29th, 2015 at 18:14
since no one should bring a gun with them to PP this instantly became a double negative doctor
Larry Schmitt November 29th, 2015 at 18:28
What do comments on web sites have to do with some nut job shooting up a clinic? Is he trying to claim that we stir people up to commit murder?
bpollen November 29th, 2015 at 19:39
…there is no saint here in this — in this equation.
Ben, since you have to be dead for at least 5 years to be even considered and you ALSO have to perform 2 miracles after you’ve died… This pretty much means that there aren’t any equations with a saint involved.
MyDogsAreSmarterThanYou November 29th, 2015 at 20:08
Planned Parenthood and pro-choice supporters do not want to destroy forced birthers. We just want them to shut the hell up and stay out of strange women’s vaginas.
MyDogsAreSmarterThanYou November 29th, 2015 at 20:14
On one side we have a police officer and people who were either minding their own business, or providing perfectly legal healthcare services. On the other side we have a crazy-eyed misanthrope who clearly bought into the propaganda presented by CMP and amplified by conservative politicians. As has been noted elsewhere, becoming a saint requires quite a bit. But do we have innocents on one side and a the rightwing’s terrorist proxy on the other?
You tell me. You tell me.
rg9rts November 30th, 2015 at 05:20
So its PP’s fault for providing services that the gopee hates and they are shocked when one of their storm troopers goes off without warning
Emma Bishop November 30th, 2015 at 05:56
“Fading Presidential hopeful” in front of Ben Carson’s name makes me very happy.
thinkingwomanmillstone November 30th, 2015 at 15:17
There are law abiding, innocent victims and a domestic terrorist in this event, Ben. That’s what you should be saying. It’s not a complex situation. Bad guy with a gun and religious rage goes into a legal health clinic and shoots at anyone who moves within the clinic or nearby the clinic. Innocent victims and guilty mass murderer.
