Utah Family Judge Removes Baby From Foster Home Because Lesbians

The one-year old is being ordered from the home because of the sexual preference of the couple.

April Hoagland and Beckie Peirce are a married couple living in Utah, and for three months they’ve been fostering a baby girl placed in their care “while the state moves toward terminating her biological mother’s parental rights.” Together they are also raising Peirce’s 12- and 14-year-old biological children. Tuesday they went for a “routine hearing” with 7th District Court Juvenile Judge Scott Johansen.

Johansen is reportedly of the opinion that same-sex couples are unfit as parents. He ordered the child removed from their care within one week.

    Another sad day in Utah thanks to a judge that doesn’t do research and reacts with personal bias. The couple should be on guard in case this poor excuse of a judge ( probably shouldn’t be one ) interferes with their lives further, their own children could be at risk.

          I moved here 40 years ago to be near the Great American Southwest and particularly the canyonlands. The religious silliness has provided many laughs. In this case it’s not funny until the judge gets slapped down.

    I’d like to see his proof that same sex couples are “unfit” to raise children. And quoting from a 2000-year-old book written by misogynistic bigots doesn’t constitute proof.

    As a survivor of child abuse and neglect, I feel that it is important for a child to be in a home where they are loved, protected and respected. If that comes from a same sex couple, good. If it comes from an opposite sex couple, good. Just as long as the child is not abused and all of their social and emotional needs are met, should be what the judge looks at. This is sad. Sad that a child can be snatched from a warm and loving home.
