Biden ‘I’m Out’ Announcement Sets Obama Admin Agenda Through 2016
Vice President Biden has announced he will not run for the presidency, opening his announcement in the White House Rose Garden by saying the window of opportunity has closed.
But after making the announcement, Biden launched into a speech that might well have been an enumeration of the issues on which he would stake his campaign, issues that will no doubt be near the top of the White House domestic agenda through the last 15 months of the Obama Administration:
– Restoring and rebuilding the middle class
– Restoring quality public education
– Breaking the partisan gridlock that is originating on Capitol Hill: “We have to change it.”
– Making a push to conquer cancer, which he acknowledged is a very personal matter for him.
– Expanding freedom and fighting inequality, citing the LGBT community, immigrants, and racial minorities: “Every single one of these issues is about dignity.”
– Biden struck a theme that is in stark opposition to the Reagan mantra, saying that government can in fact be the solution to a litany of issues that confront the nation.
– “We are wholly capable of accomplishing extraordinary things! … We can do so much more!””
