Archbishop Who Arranged Pope Meeting With Davis Likely To Be Removed

Pope Francis and the Vatican have to rely on local authorities of the church when there is a visit to foreign countries, and if there is a sense that the Pope has been misled, there is hell to pay. Visits with the Pope in D.C. were arranged through the office of Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, the papal nuncio, or envoy, in Washington.

The Rev. James Martin, editor at large of the Jesuit magazine America, had cautioned in an article this week that the pope meets many well-wishers on his trips, and that news of the meeting with Ms. Davis had been manipulated.

“I was very disappointed to see the pope having been used that way, and that his willingness to be friendly to someone was turned against him,” Father Martin said in an interview on Friday…

Archbishop Viganò is turning 75 in January, the age at which bishops must submit a formal request to the Vatican asking for permission to resign. These requests are not automatically accepted, and bishops often stay in their appointments well past age 75. But if Archbishop Viganò is held responsible for what is seen as a grave misstep on an important papal trip, he is likely to be removed at the first respectable opportunity, according to several church analysts.

One thing this Bishop should have considered is Davis is a fundie evangelical like huckelbee who share no love for catholics.

  3. Tommie October 3rd, 2015 at 11:33

Everything that Kim Davis gets involved with turns to sh*t, she gets herself arrested and now the Archbishop may be “Removed”!

    • rg9rts October 3rd, 2015 at 11:59

As a jesuit he damn well knew what he was doing

  4. rg9rts October 3rd, 2015 at 11:58

So the hit on the pope was not a physical one but rather a character assassination …slime bag conservatives

    • Mary Sue McCormick October 3rd, 2015 at 16:49

I read where the priest who arranged the meeting was loyal to Benedict XVI and wanted this meeting as a political ploy to discredit Francis a bit. Looks like it backfired somewhat!

      • rg9rts October 3rd, 2015 at 17:44

They knew darn well what the results would be when it got out…and a jesuit to boot.

      • katkelly57 October 3rd, 2015 at 21:02

Benny and his Jets were supposed to clean house of all the pedo priests too like JPII told him too….didn’t happen.
That’s another reason I am sure Frankie is po’ed with Benny’s buddy.
I do believe he’s gonna kick ass and take names later on all levels.

Come to think of it, this may be why the old hardliners within the Vatican never nominated a Jesuit before.

    • Allison Renée Alworth October 3rd, 2015 at 22:54

Mary Sue, I read the same thing – there are still a lot of cardinals and bishops loyal to Bennie, and don’t particularly like the way Pope Francis is running things, or what he says, or the way he acts. So if something like this can be used to embarrass him, they’re going to want to do it. Personally, I hope they get a few more Popes like Francis in the job, and turn this 2,000 year old ship in the direction of kindness, love and acceptance.

        Hear, hear, well said.

  5. allison1050 October 3rd, 2015 at 12:16

Oh goody, as well he should be.

  6. KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker October 3rd, 2015 at 12:28

    Too little too late.
So why aren’t all the paedophile priests behind bars?
This is just more cheap talk from a corrupt, bigoted and misogynistic organization.

    • Carla Akins October 3rd, 2015 at 14:04

With his reasonable attitude and word of acting more christ-like, it seems many have forgotten that he is still the head of an organized religion. One that has always been reluctant to police themselves, even now. I’d guess that divesting the church of it’s absurd wealth is probably out of the question as well.

      • arc99 October 3rd, 2015 at 16:35

Yes he is the head of an organized religion.

Do you have an example of someone changing an organization for the better while not being part of that organization?

Otherwise I fail to see how a man of his values being the head of an organized religion can be anything other than a needed step in the right direction.

        • robert October 3rd, 2015 at 18:28

Do you have an example of someone changing an organization for the better while not being part of that organization?
          —————————————-

its not going to start in this religion anytime soon. that’s why the gop loves them so much

        • Carla Akins October 3rd, 2015 at 23:46

We’re in agreement, he seems well intentioned and seems to be a good man. We still need to remember that his end goal is to follow the tenants of the Catholic church –

    • arc99 October 3rd, 2015 at 16:25

Last time I checked, the Pope does not have authority to arrest, try and convict people.

and although I am no longer a practicing Catholic, the relentless Catholic bashing is really starting to pi$$ me off.

tell me exactly what the f*ck the Pope should do right now and please also provide verification and reference that he has the authority to actually perform the task.

      • KABoink_after_wingnut_hacker October 3rd, 2015 at 20:24

“tell me exactly what the f*ck the Pope should do right now”
He should come clean and denounce the bigotry that he just endorsed.

        • jasperjava October 3rd, 2015 at 23:42

He did. In the best way possible, by leaking the news that he had met with a former student and his gay partner.A private audience, no less. As we all know, actions speak louder than words.

That’s the classy way to put a sock in Kim Davis’ mouth.

          • lynchie October 4th, 2015 at 16:26

this is a lifelong friend. But the vatican today fired a priest who came out.

      • lynchie October 4th, 2015 at 16:25

He can kick the pedophiles out of the church and settle with the victims. Here is a nice list by state which list them. thousands

    • Roctuna October 3rd, 2015 at 18:41

And the pope most instrumental in the cover-up, John Paul, they want to make a saint.

    • Tim Coolio October 3rd, 2015 at 18:48

How about the bad apple doctors, cops, teachers ect.

      • whatthe46 October 3rd, 2015 at 20:34

they get arrested they go to jail. they don’t get to hide behind a system that just transfers them to different districts etc. priest are sent to different parishes and not reported to the cops.

      • Avery October 3rd, 2015 at 22:43

        They aren’t the church’s responsibility.

      • lynchie October 4th, 2015 at 16:21

what about them? If pedophiles who rape children they belong in jail

    • mcalleyboy October 4th, 2015 at 04:57

Pedophiles are not only in the church but all organizations, the Catholics are fixing this issue so why keep picking on them? Next you’ll pick on the boy scouts, they gave up their bid to stop gay boy scout leaders from becoming members it got too expensive to fight it and coaches, these two spots have nothing to do with religion.

    • lynchie October 4th, 2015 at 16:20

absolutely agree. My life long friend from Montreal was raped by his priest and no one believed him. His father beat him for bringing it up. Pope said nothing about cleansing the church of these monsters

  7. jybarz October 3rd, 2015 at 12:49

Off to Siberia with Kim Davis with you, Archie.

  8. fredoandme October 3rd, 2015 at 14:16

the first respectable opportunity? that was yesterday.

  9. Mary Sue McCormick October 3rd, 2015 at 16:43

I’m not a Catholic but I did like their Pope Francis. Now, I can like him again….. He would be downright perfect if he ‘allowed’ women to be ordained as priests. But catholic men will never allow that to happen, I guess, because women are more compassionate… have more understanding …

    • tracey marie October 3rd, 2015 at 17:17

He has more to do then that, he needs to stop denying a womens autonomy over her own body and reproductive rights.

  10. majii October 3rd, 2015 at 17:14

I fully understand why Pope Francis and Vatican officials might be pissed at Vigano. He and his buddy Staver injected a very thorny political issue into a Papa visit, publicized it, and made it appear that Pope Francis put his stamp of approval on Kim Davis’ nuttiness. Vigano should be relieved of his duties immediately.

    • katkelly57 October 3rd, 2015 at 20:55

That’s the reason I didn’t believe for a minute that Frankie invited Dimberly.

  11. Jesse October 3rd, 2015 at 18:04

I’m sorry. . . what the Hell does this have to do with (to borrow a phrase from my parents) the price of beans in China? The Catholic church does NOT support gay marriage. Gay marriage is a SIN in the Catholic church. A sin sends people to Hell in the Christian faith. Ergo, though the pope may not “support” it publically, he MUST support it defacto to be true to his doctrine. This, let’s cloud the truth with peace and love, even though we don’t believe in it crap is bullshit. My upbringing focused on a famous story about a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He looks like a sheep in being kind but he still believes what he does about gay marriage. I’d rather him speak his mind than beat around the bush about it.

    • Hirightnow October 3rd, 2015 at 18:49

Where is gay marriage mentioned in the Bible, exactly?

      • robert October 3rd, 2015 at 21:11

you have 3 bibles to choose from or extract one sentence from each and say it came from the same book

        • ohpaleasegivemeabreak October 4th, 2015 at 16:00

There are 50 different versions of the bible in English alone.

Hum, I thought it had to do with the Price of TEA in China. I guess I had the wrong Mother. “What does That have to do with the Price of Tea in China”, was one of her favorite sayings.

      Get over it.

    • bpollen October 4th, 2015 at 05:26

The Catholic Church used to believe that you could BUY forgiveness for your sins. The Catholic Church sentenced people to death for the creation of bibles in the vernacular (the local language.) The Catholic Church declared heliocentrism (the earth revolves around the sun) as heresy. The Catholic Church felt torture and horrific murders were acceptable to enforce orthodoxy. The Catholic Church felt that it was justifiable to force people to convert to Catholicism under pain of death. Apparently, the Catholic Church IS capable of change.

    • tracey marie October 4th, 2015 at 10:29

yet he said about gays…”who am I to judge”. Maybe you better realize judgement of others is also considered a sin.

    • lynchie October 4th, 2015 at 16:16

There was a gay priest kicked out of the vatican today.

      http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/03/world/gay-vatican-priest-krzystof-charamsa-feat/

so we know where the church stands on this issue. But Kim Davis is not about religion is about doing her job according to the laws of the land

I dare say and Neal did it quite well.

  13. Tim Coolio October 3rd, 2015 at 18:46

Good move, an important guy like him should not be talking to a rightwing nutcase like her.

    • clemans October 4th, 2015 at 14:03

he should talk to any and all people, just like he has been doing. He has that right legally.

I hate it when liberals are as mean and petty as conservatives. I want liberals to use facts, reason, critical thinking, and to actually believe and PRACTICE progressive ideas. If we can’t live up to our stated values, we aren’t different than conservatives in any real way that matters.

  20. Frank Hoffman October 3rd, 2015 at 23:28

Reports suggest that Vigano knew meeting with Davis would prove to be a black eye for the Pope, and would undermine the message of his visit as well as his popularity with progressives. Note especially the obvious misrepresentation of the meeting by Davis’ anti-gay lawyers (and unchallenged by Vigano), and by the detail that she was instructed to put her hair up for the occasion, as if to keep her from being readily recognized at the time. Add to this the odd timing of the news that Davis met with Pope Francis — i.e., after the event and after his departure from the U.S. — and her lawyers’ history of lying and it seems probable that Vigano engaged in a bit of petty intrigue against the Pope. If so, he deserves to lose his post (again).

One of the remarkable things about Pope Francis is the degree to which he is NOT yet another mean-spirited, passive-aggressive, arrested-development case like so many of the “princelings” of the Church who are neurotically compensating for their vows of poverty and chastity. No wonder some of them resent him.
