Chris Harper Mercer, Oregon Gunman: ‘Conservative Republican’ Who ‘Dislikes’ ‘Organized Religion’
Chris Harper Mercer, 26, is the shooter who killed 13 people and wounded many others at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR.
The gunman was identified late Thursday by CBS News. Mercer was 26, according to CBS, which cited law enforcement sources. The Douglas County Sheriff earlier identified the gunman was a 20-year-old man but did not identify him…
The gunman died during a shootout with police.
A MySpace account belonging to Christopher Harper-Mercer is registered to Torrance, California. Harper-Mercer and his mother previously lived in Torrance before moving to an apartment in Winchester, Oregon, where neighbors tell The Daily Beast there is a heavy police presence currently.
The MySpace page features a photo of Harper-Mercer holding a gun and smiling into the camera. The profile includes images of pro-Irish Republican Army propaganda.
An online dating profile, linked to Harper-Mercer’s e-mail address and featuring another photo of him, says the 26-year-old was living with his parents and searching for the “yin to my yang.” It identifies his views as “conservative, republican,” and lists “organized religion” as one of his “dislikes.”

So killing 10 people for no other reason than they were Christian doesn’t strike you as the act of someone that is mentally ill? The shooter in this instance was of mixed race, not white, so there goes your theory of all white people committing mass killings, You liberals crack me up.
whatthe46 October 2nd, 2015 at 09:08
you conservs crack me up. you are all out and cheer on the child murdering stalker GZ, who is also a conserv, who waves around your conferderate rag, and don’t talk about the fact that he’s not white, but you don’t want to claim this white guy, who is a conserv that murdered 13 people, cause derp. lol
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 11:20
GZ was an idiot that put himself in a bad situation. Young Mr. Martin was an idiot that inflamed the situation by attacking the first idiot.
By pointing out thee fact that the current shooter was of mixed race I was simply correcting Mr. Jacksons point that ALL mass kiilers are white.
Why are facts so easily lost on yo folks?
whatthe46 October 3rd, 2015 at 15:50
martin didn’t put himself in a bad situation. the situation was put upon him. damn, why can’t you asswipes grasp that concept is beyond frustrating. he was going home and confronted by a wanna be and attacked him first because he wasn’t cow downing to some stranger by answering any questions. which he doesn’t have to do. he fought back the coward only approached a child because he had a gun otherwise he just would have left him alone.
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 18:35
“He attacked him first.” That’s exactly right, he attacked a man that was, at the time, doing nothing but following him. The kid should have beat feet for home rather than falling back on a ‘thug life’ mentality.
Facts are your friends, learn some.

BSDetector October 3rd, 2015 at 21:11
Really? The point where Trayvon attacked Zimmerman was further from his supposed destination than where he was last reported to be.
It is in the court records. You know, those little squiggly lines written on paper that the literate folks can read?
BTW, American Express called. They want their Race Card back.

BSDetector October 3rd, 2015 at 21:42
No, I am not, SFB. Again, read the transcript. You remember reding? You covered it your senior year. Otherwise known as 3rd grade.
The 911 tape recorded where Zimmerman was reporting his location so the police could respond to his call.
Where the altercation between Zimmerman and Saint Trayvon the Room Temperatured took place was further away from Trayvon’s supposed destination. The conclusion reached by all involved was that Trayvon doubled back because his ghetto macho self didn’t like being followed.
Newflash: Tough $h!t. Zimmerman was allowed to be where he was, and the fact that an emotional pissant didn’t like it didn’t matter.
You and other YA’s are going to have to learn to live with the rules. Or pay the cost.

MBJR October 2nd, 2015 at 10:10
What strikes me is anyone that believes in white supremacy groups, Fox news or Donald Trump has to be mentally ill, and that’s not a theory. You conservative are not amusing at all.
Sea Stories October 2nd, 2015 at 10:14
Uh, this guy and the Black sniper guy a few years back… what’s that? 2 out of 30 or 40 or whatever. You have a point. Not much of one but a point nonetheless. Good job junior.
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 11:16
So let’s take your numbers 30 or 40 and use 35 as a working figure. So 2 out of 35 shootings were committed by black men. That means that 17.5% of the shootings were done by blacks. Blacks make up 13.2% of the US population. Those numbers would indicate to me that blacks are doing more than their fair of these crimes.
I would like to state, though none of you will believe me, that I am not a racist individual. I don’t care what color a persons skin is, I care what is in their heart and in their mind. What bothers me is that liberals can’t seem to do the math and see that there is an inordinate amount of crime committed by blacks. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, black offenders committed 52 per cent of homicides recorded in the data between 1980 and 2008. Don’t those numbers mean anything to you? What can we do to reduce these numbers, for ALL races.
Robert Kennedy October 3rd, 2015 at 21:51
And conservatives can’t seem to understand that racism in hiring makes blacks more desperate which, in any population leads to crime. Underfunded schools in black neighborhoods and lack of employment opportunity is the cause of these problems and are the direct result of conservative action.
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 22:09
Instead of turning to crime, why not follow Ben Carson’s path and become the best you can be regardless of your situation. 60 years of welfare checks have done no favors to the poor. Why get up in the morning and strive to make yourself better when you can sit on the couch and have someone else pay the piper?
BSDetector October 3rd, 2015 at 22:31
You are kidding, right? You justify crime because of claimed discrimination in hiring? And underfunded schools?
And then you blame conservatives for that?
Here is a newflash for you: Most urban poor blacks live in cities that have been under leftist control for many years.
Washington DC? Leftists.
Detroit? Leftists.
St. Louis? Leftists.
Chicago? Leftists.
New York? Leftists.
It is amazing that the left has kept the black community voting for their over-promise and under-deliver schtick for all these years, and when the left fails to improve or even maintain the quality of life for that community it is because….Conservatives!
BTW, you do realize that the poverty rate for black, two-parent families is in single digits, right? There just might be a correlation or two lurking about in there, if you look reeeeal close, and use all three brain cells you possess.
BSDetector October 3rd, 2015 at 21:17
Sorry SFB, but you are uninformed, and likely intentionally so. Of the last 30 mass killings, non-whites committed 11.
Here is an excerpt from an article published in June of last year:
“Before rushing to play pin the tale on the honkey, did anyone bother to check the history of mass killings?
Because I have — a comprehensive list dating from 1982 through 9/16/2013 is found at Mother Jones here — and guess what?
Of the last 20 mass killings of that period, 9 were perpetrated by non-whites.
That would be 45 percent, which exceeds non-whites’ 37 percent share of the population.
Of the last 30 mass killings, 11 were committed by non-whites — right at the 37 percent mark.”
Looks like the People of Color are actually over-represented. You clowns ought to read the Mother Jones ‘study’. Ignorance is so unappealing.

Interesting that that thing about asking people whether they were Christians then shooting them came from one person: the father of one of the students who didn’t corroborate it. Other people in the classroom have expressly stated that that did not occur. The exact same myth started after Columbine, and it’s probably where the father got the idea to do this.

I think every community college should have at least a 20 megaton nuke bomb that will detonate at the sounds of a firearm being discharged. Not only will this let shooters know they will not get away with mass murder, but will also discourage others from wanting to carry concealed firearms that might ‘accidentally’ discharge.

Yep, we’ve been basically getting rid of the remaining conservative Democrats since Obama was elected. Thanks for the advice we’re already taking. Good thing it’s happening, since fewer and fewer people are adhering to your obviously insane, murderous ideology.
Robert Smithson October 2nd, 2015 at 07:48
This guy had a lot of issues that he just couldn’t deal with. From being a mixed race person to still living with his Mommy at age 26, to killing Zombies listed as a hobby. Oh, and by the way, Oregon just recently had upped their gun control laws along the lines of President Obama’s proposals so that was not an issue here. Face it, the guy had problems dealing with the cards life dealt him and he took out his frustrations by lashing out in a most violent matter. He alone is responsible for what happened, not anyone or anything else.
MBJR October 2nd, 2015 at 09:46
You forgot one issue he was also dealing with, being a conservative. I understand your attempt to distant yourself from someone who identifies himself as one of your own. That’s got to be a bitch, “The fucker is mentally ill I tell ya” good luck with that.
whatthe46 October 2nd, 2015 at 10:05

And that is exactly the law in Oregon. It didn’t work, so what’s next?
SecludedCompound October 2nd, 2015 at 11:49
Actually, Oregon has next to no gun regulations. It’s one of the least regulated states, actually. Street buys are legal, there’s no waiting period, no background checks, no licensing, and straw purchases are legal. It’s far less regulated than even any of the Southern states.
Do you realize that you have no idea what you’re talking about when you do it, or are you really just that stupid?

Robert Smithson October 3rd, 2015 at 00:47
No, you have no idea of what you are talking about. They just passed that background check law and there is an article about in online by Saul Hubbard at the Register Guard web site dated 11 Aug 2015.
“The political fight over whether Oregon should have universal gun-sale background checks is over, for now. But a potentially nasty battle over implementing the new law is only just starting.”.
“Senate Bill 941, which expands background checks to include most private person-to-person and online gun sales, became law on Sunday, 90 days after Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed it. Due to a so-called “emergency clause,” opponents cannot refer it to voters”
So who are you calling stupid, Mr. Stupid?

Indeed, because fighting to preserve a right that is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution is the moral equivalent of chopping up babies and selling their body parts.
William October 4th, 2015 at 10:55
Nobody is chopping up babies. The feeble attempt by right wing idiots and their chief idiot Fiorina has been debunked. I do find it interesting that whenever some ammosexual wets their pants over the prospect of sensible gun control, they drag out “abortion”.
Ammosexuals were slightly more interesting when they blamed armed violence on video games. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f77478946e217156c957a22b1059c02ef6b0b715cddc02413569f593aa40fe45.jpg
NeoBlackdog October 4th, 2015 at 11:04
So we have video taped evidence of the Planned Parenthood executives talking about selling the body parts of babies but you still refuse to admit to yourself that it’s happening? Curiouser and curiouser…
William October 4th, 2015 at 11:35
Are you serious? Don’t you ever read anything? The tape was a fake. The video was of a still born baby. I thought everyone who wasn’t a brain dead, Fox fed, Limbaugh licking moron knew that.
Here are the five different pieces they mashed up together for their one-minute video, produced after she was widely called out for lying:
A photo of a Pennsylvania woman’s stillborn son, which was used without her permission and falsely passed off as an aborted fetus in an earlier video by the discredited Center for Medical Progress (which is behind the fraudulent video campaign).
Video from the discredited Grantham Collection, an old anti-abortion archive based in Florida. The video is likely not even a fetus. The Grantham Collection has been called out in the past for posting photos alongside totally false claims about what they are (such as a photo of commonly used sponge tongs found in most hospitals, which the archive claimed were a tool used to tear babies’ limbs apart).
The audio from a video the Center for Medical Progress secretly recorded of a doctor in Colorado.
Video from a Center for Medical Progress interview with a woman who claims she used to work at an independent tissue research organization in California.
Audio from a phone conversation the Center for Medical Progress secretly recorded with a man who works at another independent health care organization in California.
NeoBlackdog October 4th, 2015 at 11:40
They are not selling them for a profit, but they are still selling them. A violation of Federal law, not to mention the moral implications.

Of course if this guy had been a Muslim, you would be screeching from the rooftops that he is typical of all 1.5 billion followers of Islam.
It is ironic that you right wingers consistently pose the straw man argument, well if terrorism is so awful how come moderate Muslims do not condemn it. Aside from ignoring or being ignorant of the fact that moderate Muslims have repeatedly condemned terrorist attacks, it probably escapes you that they show far more integrity than you do.
Those Muslims condemning terrorism do not claim that the terrorists are actually Christians. You and a lot of other right wingers could learn a thing or two from our Muslim brothers and sisters when it comes to accepting that some of your ideological bretheren are murderers.

Ayn Rand was an atheist, and she’s the High Priestess of modern-day American conservatism.
disqus_Va4LwroE3I October 2nd, 2015 at 11:42
Wrong. These extreme right wingers that have a problem with organized religion are often radical bible thumpers. The organized religion that they don’t like are the denominations of Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, etc. These denominations have become too liberal for them so they identify with non-denominational, unorganized sects that use the literal words in the bible as harsh judgement against people they don’t like.

SecludedCompound October 2nd, 2015 at 14:22
It’s really amazing, and the internet gives these people the ability to connect and ramp up each others insanity like never before. You’ll note that these shootings have gone through the roof since the web took hold and young people connect through it.
For example, the failed Canada Valentine’s day massacre: a bunch of stupid, disconnected teens sharing nothing but murder porn, Nazi iconography, various conspiracy theories and white supremacist memes, with a hefty does of manic, mindbendingly weird post activity.
Seriously, I’m 35. i was in HS when the Columbine massacre happened. I’m from the border of the internet generation, and I can see the difference: these people are disconnected from humanity, only care about what’s going on in their heads, and have no respect for anyone but their own desires. Add to that some mid-level autism and anti-depressants, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
whatthe46 October 2nd, 2015 at 15:16
“mid-level autism and anti-depressants, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.” i’m stealing that line. i’m sure i’ll get great use out of it.

I understand that people don’t want this to be about mental illness, and it’s certainly not, in total, but it is a contributing factor in many cases, whether its someone with a genetic issue or someone who has simply been driven crazy but the right wing noise machine. There’s a lot of both, and neither should have access to guns.
William October 2nd, 2015 at 12:41

bpollen October 3rd, 2015 at 04:15
You apparently have not the slightest clue how civilizations for thousands of years have functioned. Even Pharaoh stored grain to feed his people… I doubt even YOU think he grew, transported, and stored that grain himself. And if you think it was “from the heart of the giver” then you are a much bigger fool than I think you are. Let me tell you, that is a really high bar!
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 20:08
You’re absolutely right about Pharaoh taking care of his people. Much of that care was delivered on the backs of enslaved peoples, but why quibble?
tracey marie October 3rd, 2015 at 20:33
storing grain, focus
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 20:35
Yes, Tracey. Storing grain to care for (feed) his people.
Do try to keep up.
BSDetector October 3rd, 2015 at 21:29
Well, good despots take care of their slaves, Neo, because it is such a bother to get new ones. Tracey apparently thinks Pharaoh was one of those ‘good despots’.
Kinda like Roosevelt.
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 21:37
Or Pol Pot, or Chairman Mao, or Joseph Stalin, or … You get the drift.
bpollen October 4th, 2015 at 00:35
Another person misses the point. Even despots think it’s a good idea to provide for the people that make UP their kingdom. Robert up there says that it’s awful for government to do this. Except governments have done this throughout recorded history.
So, whether despot, King, Pharaoh, Fuhrer, Benevolent Leader, taking decent care of your people has been a hallmark of successful empires. I would kinda like our little American experiment to succeed. But if you want failure, remember the apocryphal quote by Marie Antoinette that encapsulated the French Aristocracy’s failures: “If they don’t have bread, let them eat cake.”
NeoBlackdog October 4th, 2015 at 11:01
Do you really think Kim Jung Un gives a rats hind end about his people? Or Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, or Amin? All of these folks have murdered millions so that they could maintain their power and control.
The best way to take care of people is to create a society in which people are self sufficient and not one in which they are dependent on the powers that be to provide for them. Welfare breeds dependency. This obviously (at least I hope it’s obvious) does not apply to those that are utterly unable to care for themselves, the severely disabled being one example. A civilized society needs to provide for those that are unable to provide for themselves, not those that are unwilling.
bpollen October 4th, 2015 at 17:24
Reading, but not comprehending.
“Even despots think it’s a good idea to provide for the people that make UP their kingdom.”
What king or Supreme Leader wants to lead a country that’s been decimated? Even North Korea has to feed SOME of their people or else Kimmy will have to wipe his own ass.
“All of these folks have murdered millions so that they could maintain their power and control.”
I DID mention the French Revolution to show just how those neglected people can react. Stalin and the Soviet Union are no more. France and the Soviet Union and the Khmer Rouge are examples of failed states.
It’s nice that you know the best way to take care of people. What are you doing to create this culture? So far, all I am seeing is you saying that helping those in need is a negative thing because they are bred dependent. Not sure how that creates this utopia of yours. See, you have no way whatsoever to determine that people you don’t know, never have and never will have contact with, are unwilling. Fact is, most people receiving assistance ALREADY work. So… if they are already working, that whole “not those who are unwilling” MIGHT describe some people. But the fraud rate for welfare is less than the fraud rate for Wall Street. And the societal consequences of welfare fraud pales in comparison to Wall Street fraud (1929 and 2008 rocked the world. When did welfare fraud destroy the economy?)”
bpollen October 4th, 2015 at 00:24
You absolutely missed the point of my post, but why quibble?

bpollen October 3rd, 2015 at 03:55
So, you’re first assumption is that he is a liar. That, in some brain-dead conspiracy, he spent quite of bit of time creating a Myspace (woulda sworn that was dead) account, blogging for months at least, defining himself publicly as a conservative Republican, in order to SHEEP-DIP himself? In order for him to complete a mission that, ultimately, proved to be a suicide mission. And the purpose of this long and involved procedure was what exactly?
Additionally, who are YOU to say what ALL conservative Republicans feel? Pretty presumptuous, don’t you think? False pride?
You ever think of working for Alex Jones? You definitely fill the batshit cracker requirement.
NeoBlackdog October 3rd, 2015 at 22:59

If he’s a murderer, why not go ahead and assume he might fib just a little now and then, hmm?
bpollen October 4th, 2015 at 00:23
But, he didn’t make these posts until after the murder, did he? So you are assuming he’s a liar first, and THEN went on to murder. Now that might just be the case. But the fact that he murdered somebody later has no probative value to prior acts. To put it another way, when you get a ticket for speeding next week, does that mean you are a liar now?
