You cannot talk with Republican about anything that requires common sense, fact, truth, science, logic, reality, intelligence or knowledge. They do not have any of these capabilities. That is why they became a Tea Party Republican.

This whole matter of when the union of egg and sperm start development has been the subject of endless debate. As we have noticed, Roe v Wade did not settle the issue for everyone. Here’s a good digest of man’s struggle to realize when a fertilized egg becomes human: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beginning_of_human_personhood
We will always be wrestling with this issue if history is to be our guide.

Professor Nye mentions that some people want to criminalize abortion for “religious” reasons. It is necessary to add that there is NO Christian Scripture supporting such a “religious” belief.
In the Old Testament, Judaic traditions and the words of the Tanach repeatedly say that a Person is “ensouled” with first breath. Not breathing, not a person.
In the New Testament, the teachings of Jesus Christ and Paul do not mention abortion. Silence on the topic, although abortifacients and abortions were commonly known and experienced. Other “fathers” of the Church, including St. Augustine and St Thomas Aquinas expressly adopt the Judaic tradition.
So where did the modern American Church get this view that a fetus is a “person”? When did abortion become “murder”? When the GOP conducted focus-group studies and determined that the Abortion issue would divide the liberals. With Reagan, whose multiple wives both had abortions, the GOP began claiming that Government should impose criminal penalties on abortion providers and women.
Clearly, that decision was political, not religious. In America, there is no “religious” basis for involving the Government in the private decision of a woman deciding what is best for herself and the eggs and fetus she is carrying.
