I don’t know how to address this other than to say that public schools do close for Christian holidays..and some even close for Jewish holidays. So why not Muslim?
The alternative would be to not close for any religions holidays?

The Prince George’s County, MD school district got around that by renaming the Christmas break to Winter break, since the Easter break was already called Spring break. So now they don’t have to close for any Muslim holidays, since they don’t close for an Christian holidays.

The name change was in direct response to Muslims asking to have some of their holy days off. The school board was having enough difficulty fitting enough school days onto the calendar because of occasional snow days. (It doesn’t take much snow to close the schools here)

I’ve seen it done, but the Conservative “Christians” throw an annual pants-wetting hissy fit over it. It’s probably acceptable to them when it’s to screw the Muslims out of “people” status, though.

And the same people will throw a fit when they’re forced to remove the crèche from city hall.

The sad part is, it’s all empty symbolism. It’s just a way for them to push their phony Christianity in everyone’s face.

Yup. First rule of social movements: any religious group or social movement is made up of about 1/2 % people who get it, 2% of people who don’t get it but do realize there’s something there TO get, and 97 1/2% people who think it’s a cool or advantageous thing to be known to be a part of. (Sorry, Ms. Reid – my grammar teacher is rolling in her sarcophagus right now, but you get what I mean…)
