Earnest: Government Shutdown ‘A Real Possibility’

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was on my radio show last night and expressed concern that Republicans will shut down the government over funding for Planned Parenthood. I also asked him about the pandering to anti-Muslim sentiment we seeing form Republican presidential candidates:

EARNEST: I think it is an indication of the degree to which some of these Republican candidates are willing to continence the offensive views of some in order to advanced their political campaign in order to win votes. It’s a cynical strategy, it certainly is one that is inconsistent with the values of the vast majority of the American people. But look, it’s also a strategy that lots of other Republicans have used too. And there is one reason that we have not seen very many Republican Presidential candidates come out and denounce Donald Trump and his tactics, and it’s because they’re trying to appeal for those votes too. That is the same strategy that we saw a leading House Republican once describe himself as “David Duke without the baggage.” He was doing the same thing and this is unfortunately what one wing of the Republican party has been reduced to.

With Donald Trump still dog  whistling birtherism, I asked if President Obama would consider releasing a third birth certificate.

EARNEST: (LAUGHS) Look if the first two aren’t going to convince them I’m not sure a 3rd one’s going to do any good.

    I think POTUS Obama (who ,btw, just hit 115% on my POTUS performance scale -fist for any of them – EVER : but I’m still factoring in the Texas BBQ scandal) should politely refuse to issue anymore Hawaiian birth certificates until TRUMP comes clean on his tax returns. I wanna see just how bad Donald did under POTUS Obama’s ‘failed’ economy. Same goes for all the other Republican candidates too! No show equals NO VOTE for me.

        And Walmart stock will plummet because all those Walmart employees who have to use food stamps to shop at Walmart won’t have enough money to shop at Walmart. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Congress has figured out a way to exempt themselves from the pain of a shutdown.

    Of course the GOP is going to shut down the gov over PP funding..there is nothing the GOP likes more than the War on Women…they are first rate misogynists, xenophobes, and homophobes…david duke and at least 8 prominent white supremacists are endorsing trump and the GOP, FIRE THE GOP. they will shut down the gov and continue to be even more unpopular than they already are!

      The terms GOP and cares are not to be used in the same sentence. It turns it into a double negative or something. They cancel each other out.

    If anyone else had wandered in from another country, shut down the government and cost the nation billions of dollars you’d at least deport their ass….right?

    The crazy part is they are going to shut it down over government funded abortions, which do not exist.
