NY Pizzeria Offering Racist ‘Pic-A-Nika’ Pizza With Fried Chicken And Watermelon Toppings

A Manhattan pizzeria has apologized for–but refuses to stop serving–a blatantly racist pizza they have named the “Pic-A-Nika” pizza. The pizza features several toppings, including fried chicken and watermelon.

Pizza by Certé recently began to serve the controversial pizza topped with Southern fried chicken, sea-salted watermelon, arugula, goat cheese, ricotta, and bleu cheese on a sunflower seed crust. But the name of the pie and the ingredients soon set off an online backlash. Here’s a sampling of what has been posted on Twitter:

Y’all want to stay permanently asleep in re: NYC racism. Latest ex: Pic a nika pizza w/ sea salted watermelon + fried chicken toppings. LOL.

    Well, it looks like another failing pizza business is trying to incite a racial controversy so this country’s bigots will send big handouts to the restaurant’s GoFundMe page….

        Sent an email to them telling them how low they are….but I wasn’t nice about it…what are they gonna do, take away my birthday?

    This is just sad. It’s even more embarrassing that the pizzeria apologized but kept selling it. Interesting story, though.

    At first I was appalled. But after thinking about it I remember that our picnics were often fried chicken, potato salad and watermelon.

    There are bigger fish to fry.
