Busted For Treasure Hunting In NYC Sewers

It sure sounded like a great idea at the time:

Three men hoping to find valuables in New York City’s extensive sewer system were facing criminal charges for climbing through a manhole cover and spending several hours on a treasure hunt in the muck-filled caverns, authorities said on Friday.

A spokesman for the New York City Police Department said Marquise Evans, 21, dislodged a manhole cover on a street in Brooklyn late on Wednesday and allowed two other men to climb inside.

Witnesses called police, and responding officers and firefighters, outfitted in protective garb, followed the men but could not locate the pair, the spokesman said.

About four hours later, the two men, identified as David Hannibal, 45, and Damion Nieves, 35, emerged and were taken into custody, police said.

The men had taken metal detectors with them into the sewer in the hopes of finding valuables flushed or dropped down toilets and drain pipes, the spokesman said.

They came up empty-handed, police said.

Comrade DeBlasio is really improving NYC’s image, Killing black people for selling untaxed cigarettes and now arresting garbage pickers, meanwhile, crime and murder are on the rise in NYC.

      • Red Eye Robot August 14th, 2015 at 14:47

NYC just paid the family of Eric Garner, (Black Man), $6,000,000, who they killed for selling untaxed cigarettes. Try and keep up.

So the mayor is personally responsible for everything done by every employee of the city? Wow, that’s a huge responsibility. Why would anyone ever want to be mayor of New York? I have never heard anyone else hold the mayor responsible for Garner’s death.

          • whatthe46 August 14th, 2015 at 19:55

this mayor is Obama’s brother from another mother. gotta blame ’em.

          From the NY Times:
          http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/02/nyregion/june-crimes-in-new-york-city-at-lowest-since-94.html?_r=0
“New York Police Commissioner William J. Bratton on Wednesday said that last month was the city’s lowest-crime June since 1994, when he was in his first stint leading the Police Department, in an era of much higher crime rates.
At the current pace, Mr. Bratton said, the city is poised to log fewer than 100,000 major crimes — including murder, rape, robbery, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny and auto theft — this year, a low unseen since such records became reliable and consistent in 1993.”

      HEY Gary!!!! How’s it hangin???

    • jasperjava August 15th, 2015 at 10:55

Since when are you concerned about police killing black people? Since you could pin it on a leftist mayor, I suppose. I guess Giugliani was responsible for every crime committed by NYPD during his tenure? No? Didn’t think so.

As a proud white supremacist, you would be expected to celebrate Eric Garner’s death. What are your Klan buddies going to think? But I guess logical consistency is too hard for “people” like you.

      • Suzanne McFly August 15th, 2015 at 12:21

Using red tool logic, we can blame Giuliani and bush for 9/11

      • Red Eye Robot August 17th, 2015 at 11:06

No doubt you blamed Rudy for every thing negative in NYC during his tenure, certainly liberals in NYC and the NYC media did. So we will play by your rules and say yes, Comrade DeBlasio is responsible for his officers killing Eric Garner over $2.50 in unpaid taxes on a pack of ciggs

        • jasperjava August 17th, 2015 at 12:01

In that case, as a law-and-order conservative and a white supremacist, you must be happy with this outcome.

Is that supposed to be an “easy” way to make money? Most people take their metal detectors down to the beach. Or get an actual job. What a warped sense of values. I mean, they mighta run into one of those monster alligators that were flushed by the hundreds (or so the legend goes).

  4. Budda August 14th, 2015 at 16:10

Something smells here, after all what are they charged with? Trespassing?

    • Larry Schmitt August 14th, 2015 at 16:43

Probably the same way they would be charged if they were found climbing a telephone pole or in a water treatment plant. The public has no business in facilities used by utilities (sorry, I couldn’t figure any other way to put it). There is a liability (sorry again) issue if they get injured.

  5. StoneyCurtisll August 14th, 2015 at 19:27

    Cant blame them for trying…

Like Red Skelton…so many characters…if you get a chance catch “Gigot”.. a movie in which Gleason played a mute.. the family sat on it for years …watch it if you can…a whole different side to him…
