With A Single Tweet, An Occupy Activist Nails The GOP’s ‘Pro Life’ Hypocrisy

Republicans just love to talk about how they’re “pro life,” and that every child conceived is precious to them. This is ironic since the GOP is fond of cutting programs that help children once the kids are born. Also, while they want to eliminate a woman’s right to exercise her reproductive freedom, I don’t see too many of them standing in line to adopt all of the unwanted children in this country.

And now Occupy activist Jesse LaGreca has distilled all the Republican hypocrisy over their latest hobby horse–defunding Planned Parenthood–down to a single tweet which he posted. Here it is:

    Brilliant!

  2. labman57 August 5th, 2015 at 17:19

Social conservatives have a curious take on the politics and ethics of contraception and pregnancy:

Step 1) Slut-shame any female who chooses to use birth control, make it unavailable to minors, and decry the lack of morals when an unplanned pregnancy occurs.

Step 2) Force said pregnant females to give birth, but once the baby is born … f*ck ’em both — they’re on their own!

    • Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 17:53

Birth control is fine. Not all conservatives are Catholic. Watch The Meaning of Life. I can go the drugstore at anytime and proudly say with a loud voice, “I WANT TO BUY A CONDOM. In fact, I will take a package of them.”

      • Chris August 5th, 2015 at 18:21

And we have no problem picturing you behaving that way.

        • Suzanne McFly August 5th, 2015 at 18:35

I have a problem with him claiming he has a reason to need a condom.

      • ChrisVosburg August 5th, 2015 at 18:23

Buying a condom is not contraception.

        • Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 20:35

I picked condom because I wanted to do the Monty Python routine. I was alluding to the Catholic line in the movie. Every sperm is sacred. Every sperm is great. When a sperm is wasted. God gets quite irate.

          • ChrisVosburg August 6th, 2015 at 10:29

In other words (standard English, apparently not your native language), you are agreeing with the Pythons’ mocking of the sanctimonious “pro-life” bullshit that you’re espousing here– You’re shooting down your own argument and don’t even understand that you’re doing so.

            Wow.

            • Kevin Wall August 8th, 2015 at 11:38

Unlike liberals, I can laugh at many situations even at my own expense. If not tearing up children piece by piece is your definition of sanctimonious, then I accept the label with pride. Preventing conception is not the same as a partial birth abortion.

      • fredoandme August 5th, 2015 at 18:31

        monty python?

        • Hirightnow August 6th, 2015 at 15:04

Even the ideologically insane can enjoy them.
(Pity he didn’t get the gist of the sketch, though…)

      • labman57 August 5th, 2015 at 19:25

And yet, many conservatives frequently call for so-called “personhood” legislation that would define life as beginning at conception … which would effectively outlaw many conventional forms of contraception such as the IUD and the pill.

        • Kevin Wall August 8th, 2015 at 11:42

We are not a homogeneous lot. I am happy to take down abortion one piece at a time. I will compromise to get a gain and then push again to get more. Partial birth first because it is the easiest to get support for. then go for 3rd trimester because it is the next logical step. then go for 2nd trimester. I can live with saving some without having to save all.

      • fahvel August 6th, 2015 at 02:17

and please please use them well – the globe does not need any more of you.

        • Kevin Wall August 8th, 2015 at 11:44

I have had my children and the grandchildren are now. The children are already conservative and passing it on.

  3. Dwendt44 August 5th, 2015 at 17:33

The wacky right is immune to reason or common sense. Even when their religious text say different, it doesn’t matter. They want what they want regardless of the consequences.

  4. Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 17:50

The NRA does not sell product other than shirts and cups with Logo’s. The NRA has not killed 55 million babies (not that PP did all abortions). The NRA does not negotiate fees from dead children. Tweet a sound bite with no substance. That is how Obama got elected.

    • Gindy51 August 5th, 2015 at 17:57

Fetus does not equal baby. Get a dictionary and you will see the difference.

      • Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 19:37

Eagle does not equal but destroying an egg is crime. Why, because the pre-hatched chicks death decreases the population. The pre-born human is fully human at an earlier stage of development. You have to do mental gymnastics to think liberal.

My daughter-in-law came to us and said she is having a baby. She knew it was a baby. Then she found out it was a boy. He was named before birth. She heard his heart and felt him move before he was born. He was Landry from the beginning and will be until he dies.

        • Budda August 5th, 2015 at 20:16

So your arguement is that we don’t have enough people on this. Planet?

          • Kevin Wall August 8th, 2015 at 11:31

So you see abortion is a form of population control? At least you are honest enough to recognize it is not a women’s health issue.

            • Budda August 9th, 2015 at 21:02

No, I don’t view it as population control…you assume too much.

It is a decision between a woman and her doctor AND it is legal!

      • fahvel August 6th, 2015 at 02:15

a dictionary is just quiet noise. Hold one in each hand, a foetus and a baby. Which one ya gonna take to the playground?

    • Budda August 5th, 2015 at 17:57

First of all no ‘babies’ are killed due to an abortion. It is a zygot or fetus, biologicaly, medically and most important, legally.

Second, the NRA promotes guns, guns znd more guns that do kill over 10,000 children a year.

      • ChrisVosburg August 5th, 2015 at 18:08

In humans, we generally go with “embryo” in the first 8-12 weeks after fertilization, and from then on, “fetus.”

9 of 10 abortions are in the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy, and therefore not fetuses (fetii?).

    • ChrisVosburg August 5th, 2015 at 18:00

What was the average age of the children killed by abortion?

    • Larry Schmitt August 5th, 2015 at 18:04

By very successfully lobbying congress to never place any restrictions on gun ownership, and lobbying state legislatures to allow weapons to be carried in more and more places, and to not require trigger locks and other safety devices, especially in homes with children, the NRA is definitely promoting and profiting from the deaths of children.

      • ChrisVosburg August 5th, 2015 at 18:12

In other words, their product is “influence,” which they sell to the gun industry and gun culture extremists in the form of memberships and other supplications.

    • Chris August 5th, 2015 at 18:17

You totally don’t get the tweet. Not surprised.

      • Red Eye Robot August 5th, 2015 at 18:49

        I don’t either, explain it.

        • Budda August 5th, 2015 at 20:57

Not surprising that you don’t get .

        • whatthe46 August 6th, 2015 at 00:13

you have to actually have a functioning brain to understand. it’s ok. we all know you’re not all quite there. sleep. just, sleep.

    • Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 19:31

The NRA does not sell guns. The NRA members do not kill people. The NRA does not profit from the deaths. Planned Parenthood profits from abortions. They make money on the tissue. I get it. It is just the comparison is obtuse. It explains why Colmes could not keep up with Hannity.

      • ChrisVosburg August 5th, 2015 at 19:39

Did you just post a comment AGREEING WITH YOURSELF?

        • Bunya August 6th, 2015 at 14:22

Hey! He has to. After all, who else is gonna agree with his hillbilly logic?

      • fahvel August 6th, 2015 at 02:13

why any one is being polite to your diseased thinking is far to difficult to understand – political correctness is for nice people – not mindless bricks like you seem to be.

You can pull your head out of the blender now. it’s done.

      • Bunya August 6th, 2015 at 14:28

Have you ever considered having yourself “fixed”? The world is already inundated with mental midgets such as yourself.

      • William August 6th, 2015 at 14:42

“Planned Parenthood profits from abortions. They make money on the tissue.”

Planned Parenthood is the largest U.S. provider of reproductive health services, with 97% of its services focused on breast and cervical cancer screening, HIV screening and counseling, contraception, and 3% on abortion.

You do understand that planned parenthood is a non profit right?
Oh who the hell am I kidding. You listen to right wing media and list yahoo as a source.

  5. Chris August 5th, 2015 at 18:18

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

  6. Red Eye Robot August 5th, 2015 at 19:08

Gun controllers cry that the NRA uses its deep pockets to buy congress. What is stopping them from buying influence in congress? If you believe gun control will save lives, Raise the money and buy influence. Aren’t those lives worth it?
Isn’t gun control worth the money? If people really want gun control like you claim the polls state, it shouldn’t be hard. Obama raised 1billion dollars in the last election. Of course the gun controllers won’t because they would never spend that kind of money on a worthless endeavor like gun control. They know it’s meaningless and a waste of good money.

Advocacy of Plutocracy is usually put forth as satire, whereas you seem to have done it without any awareness of the obvious tyranny it entails.

Congratulations, you’re this forum’s Premier Fucking Fool.

      • Red Eye Robot August 17th, 2015 at 11:41

Perhaps you don’t seem to get satire, The left always has a full slate of pre-prepared reasons of why their bad policies fail so miserably. Just look at all the excuses they are making for ISIS in iraq after bragging they ended the war in 2011, Blaming Congress for bieng in the pocket of the NRA is just E pluribus unum. Perhaps Congress is opposed to gun control because they see what you have purposely blinded yourself to. A) Gun Control Doesn’t Work & B) the voters don’t want it. If you wish to believe the fantasy that an evil corporate entity controls America, have fun, I am more than glad to provide you with a solution tailored to your not so unique pathology. Mind you not even the people feeding your fevered paranoia believe what they are selling you. They are ideologues wholly without ethics and an end justified the means philosophy. If they thought for a hot second they could buy gun control in congress they would find the money. They don’t, because either they know the congress won’t go for it or that gun control doesn’t work.

  7. Kevin Wall August 5th, 2015 at 20:19

Yahoo had a piece on taking anti-depressants during pregnancy. Apparently, in the article th pre-born is baby. Read for yourselves. A baby can be hurt before birth. Imagine that. Yahoo news is not the epitome of conservative thought. No, it is a baby,,,just not when in the context of abortion.

“Up to 10 percent of women are prescribed a class of antidepressants called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) during pregnancy, typically because they’ve previously been diagnosed with depression or anxiety. But are these meds a threat to an unborn baby?”

    • Budda August 5th, 2015 at 20:54

      You are dense.

    • Bunya August 6th, 2015 at 14:19

…and actual babies can be hurt in unnecessary wars for profit. Imagine that!

      • Kevin Wall August 8th, 2015 at 11:33

What does one have to do with another? Because babies die in wars it is ok to kill them in the womb? That makes no sense.

        • Bunya August 10th, 2015 at 09:38

My point is this. Maybe you should spend more time worrying about the already living, breathing babies who are homeless, hungry and neglected instead of working to bring more into this world. The people who are first to whine about saving something that hasn’t been born yet, are the same ones advocating for wars and capitol punishment. Go figure.

        • whatthe46 August 10th, 2015 at 09:44

you can’t be pro-life and pro-death at the same damn time. it’s called hypocrisy. the repukes are great at this.
