Why did 4 channels cover Trumps speach last night? They don’t cover Bernies or even other Repubs…..what’s with that?

Some sad news, just heard on another site, that Nick Vanocur has died. I am not sure if he posted here or not, but have known him on many other sites for years now. His father was Sander Vanocur, the well known journalist.
He was found in his home by a relative, and there is no information as to the cause of death.
I have seem him recently on other sites, and do not recall any mention of illness or health concern.s

dont recall the name…sounds like my loss. My condolences

Alan, I KNOW that this is a partisan site, but….
    Lately it’s become….how shall I put this…a partisan site.
We’re better than this, Mr.Colmes; we don’t need feel-good; we need substance. More on Bernie’s politics…or Joe’s! More about how Mrs. Clinton is or is not living up to expectations…less about how some minor idiot left his gun out and his four-year old shot the postman;…unless the NRA whines, naturally…

(Or I could just f**k off and go back to watching DBZ Abridged, and only visit when the topic ISN’T “Trump insults ethnic group”….)

    • Chinese Democracy August 27th, 2015 at 01:22

      ok what about this?

Not surprised Trump can’t name a favorite Bible verse; lots of refugees and immigrants in that book, none of them white

      bada bing!

    • DrDrTed August 27th, 2015 at 21:24

You sound like a semi-polite troll. Not well disguised, however.

      • Jeffrey Samuels August 28th, 2015 at 08:50

his post didn’t seem like a troll to me; just a critique

        • DrDrTed August 28th, 2015 at 17:59

I see what you mean – I’m reacting to the world that criticizes Jorge Ramos for being impolite by speaking out with a question (done all the time by members of the White House press corps) to Trump who is so uncivil, much less impolite.
I see any Repub (given the current configuration of their party; this is not an absolute, of course) appointing Supreme Court Justices who will adversely affect my *grandchildren* for most of their adult lives. I have gay and Latino family members, so this is not an abstraction for me.
But, on the points, Hirightnow was not firing up an internecine battle among Dems in troll-like fashion. I am mistaken.

I hope someone will mention a great article about Trump and the white supremacist movement in the New Yorker:
    http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/08/31/the-fearful-and-the-frustrated
It’s not just David Duke endorsing Trump. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to call Trump a threat to Democracy just as we’d say the KKK or other racists groups are.

  7. DrDrTed August 27th, 2015 at 21:23

Alan, I saw your article about Dinesh D’Souza’s latest outrageous behavior on the alan.com home page. He’s been in competition with Michelle Malkin to produce the most dreadful racist hate speech in the world. Maybe he’s gaining on her now.

    Good morning!
On this day in 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial
in Washington, D.C., the African American civil rights movement reaches its
high-water mark when Martin Luther King, Jr., speaks to about 250,000 people
attending the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The demonstrators–black
and white, poor and rich–came together in the nation’s capital to demand voting
rights and equal opportunity for African Americans and to appeal for an end to
    racial segregation and discrimination.

For those interested in the Greek crises, I read this and found it interesting and recommend it. … http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/08/28/uk-imf-greece-specialreport-idUKKCN0QX0UO20150828?utm_source=twitter Looks to me like Greece was sacrificed for Germany and the EU oligarchy.

It’s no longer 97% of climate scientist believing in man-made climate change…
    It went up to 99.9%

    • DrDrTed August 28th, 2015 at 22:20

Thank you for that data. I remember when Republicans were the ones who, above all, respected expertise, particularly scientific expertise.
What happened? There’s nothing inherently anti-intellectual or anti-expertise about religion. Just consider our new Pope. So it can’t be religion alone, fundamentalist or otherwise.
I think it’s the relatively small percentage of businesses that benefit from climate change denial. Most businesses, of course, do better if they operate in the real world. But energy companies that depend on fossil fuels don’t.
      Do you agree?

      • Apocalypse August 29th, 2015 at 00:57

Yes,..and I wish all religious people were able to accept science like the Pope.

    Treat guns like cars.

    • DrDrTed August 28th, 2015 at 18:03

Actually, we have. As I’m sure you heard on the show, because of safety moves (public health), the death rate from automobile use is very low compared to the past. That’s measured by deaths per 100K miles traveled, especially.
No reason we can’t have changes in gun laws the same way.
I’m old enough to remember idiots who thought wearing seatbelts was an invasion of their personal liberty. It *is* an invasion of their personal liberty, and the health benefits are so overwhelming that we have decided it’s worth it.
Little things, like instant fingerprint ID readers on guns, will make a difference. It’s a slippery slope to fewer deaths – a slippery slope on which we in public health want to be.
