I did nothing last night – I seriously considered going to see it at the Cinemark. In the end, I was just too tired and parking is a bitch.

there is a new kind of sweatshop in the usa and you will never guess who is profiting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former inmates at a privately run Nashville jail
say they worked without pay building bean-bag “cornhole” games, plaques
shaped like footballs, birdhouses and dog beds so that officials could
sell them through their personal business at a flea market.

    Inmates
can legally be required to work without pay, in some circumstances, but
jail employees are not supposed to profit from their labor. But former
inmates Larry Stephney and Charles Brew say that is what happened with
Stand Firm Designs, run by two jail employees and one former employee,
    according to their business card.

    Although the company website
says Stand Firm Designs is “composed of retired contractors,” Stephney
and Brew said they produced some of the company’s products while working
without pay in the jail’s woodshop under fear of retaliation.

    Those
products were sold at the Nashville Flea Market and through the
website, they said. Plaques went for $10 to $20 and bean-bag toss games
commonly called cornhole were $50, they said.

As far as I can tell, Sam Andrews, head of St. Louis oath keepers, did
not issue a “Dare cops to shoot” challenge. That part appears to have
been made up by Raw Story and carried forward here.

Original title:Oath Keepers plan unique demonstration with assault rifles in Ferguson
    http://www.reddirtreport.com/red-dirt-news/oath-keepers-plan-unique-demonstration-assault-rifles-ferguson

Raw title: Oath Keepers plan to arm 50 black Ferguson demonstrators with AR-15 rifles and dare cops to shoot
    http://www.rawstory.com/2015/08/oath-keepers-plan-to-arm-50-black-ferguson-demonstrators-with-ar-15-rifles-and-dare-cops-to-shoot/

LL title: Oath Keepers To Arm Blacks In Ferguson And Dare Cops To Shoot Them

After several days and no reply I can only assume alan[.]com is participating in a deliberate effort to mislead the public and slander Sam Andrews.

      • Mike August 24th, 2015 at 23:33

I think Sam Andrews would object to you speaking for him as evidenced by the video I provided below. His words…

“This operation will then culminate in an armed march of the good citizens of Ferguson through their community. This should be an especially powerful message that will be sent not only to the police chief and the Powers That Be, but also to the citizens of Ferguson who now fear that exercising their Second Amendment right to open carrying a gun would result in being killed by the police.”

You can say that Raw Story paraphrased Mr Andrews’ statement, which is not uncommon, but it is a fair representation of the facts…they are in essence daring the cops to shoot after they arm and train a number of selected citizens.

We disagree, and thank you for an almost civil reply. :)

I am not “outraged,” by this incident, just a little disappointed. What do you mean you are “calling BS?”

Andrews’ quote makes no such “dare” and is probably an accurate description of how many black people in Ferguson feel about open carry. Although that’s speculation on my part. Andrews could be making it up to further his own agenda.

Raw Story and LL did not provide a “fair representation of the facts.” I think it was a fabrication, not “paraphrase.”

          • Mike August 26th, 2015 at 13:17

            “..an almost civil reply”

C’mon Floyd, calling someone on their (alleged) BS and faux outrage is not an ad hominem..neither of us has ever been anything but civil. We merely disagree. JMO

Let’s go back to Mr Andrews words…”This operation will then culminate in an armed march… (it) should be an especially powerful message that will be sent not only to the police chief and the Powers That Be…”

Tell me, what exactly do you think that message is…???

It is not illogical to infer from that statement he is putting the police on notice that the rules have changed…that there will now be consequences when the police gun down, tear gas, or arrest protesters, without cause or in violation of the laws as HE interprets them, not the police. It is a challenge, which is the very definition of a “dare”.

            Your statement
“… I can only assume alan[.]com is participating in a deliberate effort to mislead the public and slander Sam Andrews.”
is nothing more than a slanderous, fallacious, false dichotomy in itself, and outrageous because it omits an infinite number of “other” possibilities. One being Alan.com and many posters here not only disagree with your assumption, but believe it to be so ridiculous as to not merit a response. You speak as though we are entitled to a response from those we attack…we aren’t. Writers, editors, journalists, etc, are allowed their opinions…as much as you and I, and paraphrasing is a way of life in the news business…always has been, always will be…

Paradoxically, I both agree and disagree with many statements Mr Andrews made in that video…towards the end he defines 4 groups…hell of a take and it made sense to me the way he presented his proof through inference. He is daring 2 of those groups to react to a new stimuli has is about to introduce…the equation has changed because Mr Andrews is “challenging” the status quo.

I can only hope I explained my position (the BS & faux outrage) in a manner you might be open to accept. I also hope you can see why I couldn’t allow the post to go unanswered.

            Have a great day.

            • greenfloyd August 27th, 2015 at 00:49

Disagreement aside, I always appreciate a well considered reply.

We are arguing in a vacuum. Without Mr. Andrews and any of those mentioned publishers participating, all we can do is speculate, i.e. paraphrase or sensationalism?

Please also bear in mind at the time, (a few days after the 1yr anniversary of the death of Michael Brown and the now routine rioting and looting), LL published the following headline,

Oath Keepers To Arm Blacks In Ferguson And Dare Cops To Shoot Them

Ferguson was under an “Emergency Declaration,” cops and citizens were already shooting at each other, a couple people were dead, several injured, tensions were very high on the streets.

Today, about 3 weeks on, the situation in Ferguson does not appear to have been altered by Andrews’ Oath Keepers. As I understand the riot cops are gone, the press and media gone, and Oath Keepers appear likewise. Life in Ferguson goes on, such as it is.

As for Andrews’ “march?” We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t trust them and I doubt the people of Ferguson do either. We should note the extreme irony in 2015 of an armed white militia occupying a black community. We should also note, black people are leaving Ferguson in large numbers. It would not surprise me to learn there is some social engineering going on to make Ferguson less black and perhaps more attractive to mostly rich white real estate developers. Where does Oath Keepers get its funding?

As to the lack of response to my “ridiculous” post, all I can suggest is, the lack of response is a response. In this case the publisher has provided an opportunity to lodge a complaint. That’s what I did. Maybe it is ridiculous and certainly it’s not all that significant. At least for now…. :)

              Be well and prosper.

              • Mike August 27th, 2015 at 12:11

                Fair enough… “Paraphrasing v Sensationalism”
Maybe we’re both seeing what we want to see.
I do agree with your take on Andrews and the OK’s …I’m suspicious about their motives and question where their funding comes from. The whole thing is crazy and with precedent…we’ll have to wait and see like you said.
                Take care buddy.

space station astronauts get an Arial view of a rare lighting storm ‘ sprite ‘

    Sprites are enormous.

This one, like the handful of others astronauts have captured, probably rises up 50 miles and stretches a few miles wide.

    Although
they are very common, sprites are rarely photographed. A thunderstorm
produces a sprite once or twice a minute yet each flash lasts only a few
milliseconds. They’re very hard to see from the ground, too — typically
because a big, fat, scary thunderstorm is in the way.

    But they can
be caught by Earth-based photographers. Jason Ahrns gets incredible
shots of them by flying a small aircraft around thunderstorms over
Nebraska and other central US states.

“religious freedom” is really about locking in second class status, not just for same-sex marriages, but for gays and lesbians generally…

Those county clerks that are still refusing to issue same sex marriage licenses need to find another job NOW, today, before a Judge throws them in jail. The Government serves everyone period, and the preferences of its employees aren’t relevant
