I couldn’t answer in a way that she understood, either.

in case you get asked ..
Liberalism:
a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of the human race, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties.
Socialism:
any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods.
liberalism is identified by its devotion to individual rights, while socialism is distinguished by collective ownership of resources. The two are hardly synonyms.
read it twice so you dont forget!

So, this is a thing now in Seattle.
TuMadre, Ph.D August 3rd, 2015 at 02:01
So is this:
“Some workers across the city are left telling bosses
to give them fewer hours at the higher wage because a full week’s
earnings now puts them past the threshold for some welfare payments such
as food stamps and assistance with rent.
Of course, one of the things that supporters of the higher wage said
was that they wanted to help lift min. wage workers out of poverty and
welfare.
Only last week, for instance, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti claimed that a $15 min. wage in his city would lift 600,000 out of poverty. Self-avowed socialist
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), a VT Senator and a candidate for the Democrat nomination in 2016, also recently claimed that a $15 min. wage would “lift millions” of Americans out of poverty, off welfare, and into the buying public.
But now some workers in Seattle are finding that the higher wage is
forcing them off the welfare programs they would rather stay enrolled in
and, instead of celebrating their higher income, they are imposing
fewer work hours on themselves in order to stay on assistance.”

Some workers everywhere in every industry and at every pay level will make decisions you find fault with. And THIS is what you snivel about?
TuMadre, Ph.D August 3rd, 2015 at 23:12
I’m not snivelling about anything. I’m pointing out that there is unexpected fallout to the higher minimum wage
I’m also curious why people seem to get so frustrated with me pointing out facts. You, specifically, become extremely condescending, as if by saying, “THIS is what you snivel about?” means that the facts have somehow changed, or that the argument is somehow refuted.
Budda August 4th, 2015 at 10:45
“unexpected fallout”…according to a Breitbart comment. That ‘cite’ is not known for its honesty.
TuMadre, Ph.D August 4th, 2015 at 20:53
Already linked a snopes article. You’re welcome.
Budda August 4th, 2015 at 21:28
You cited Breitbart, don’t deflect.
TuMadre, Ph.D August 5th, 2015 at 00:20
And I snopes’ed it, proving it true.
If you want to refute it, feel free to cite your own sources refuting it.
Budda August 5th, 2015 at 09:47
http://m.snopes.com/seattle-15-minimum-welfare/
If this is the Snopes you are citing you need to read it again. It states it as ‘Rumor” and goes on to say 5, that’s right, 5 people asked for less hours fearing ( falsely) that they would loose their subsidized housing. It also says most of this comes from a Fox affiliate…another low reliable source
You are just being argumentative and petty.
TuMadre, Ph.D August 5th, 2015 at 09:51
Ah, so you are admitting that there are people doing this, then? I mean, if there are 5 confirmed cases, who knows how many others there are?
Also, you said they were falsely worried. If these people are working at 15 dollars per hour, why can’t they get off benefits (which was the reasoning given) at that rate?
Budda August 5th, 2015 at 13:08
you have a terrific imagination
StoneyCurtisll August 4th, 2015 at 18:54

On July 31, Terry Gross of NPR’s Fresh Air conducted a one-hour interview with Sarah Hepola, author of the new book “Blackout”. I listened to part of the interview on my car radio as I was running errands.
Sarah described how, in her youth, she repeatedly got very drunk and then woke up to find herself in bed with a man she did not know. She described how, looking back on those years, she believes that she was seeking love.
Of course we should be telling young men not to have sex with women who are very intoxicated, even if the women are begging for it.
But when Sarah mentioned that she was seeking love, it occurred to me that we should encourage young men to see this situation as an opportunity. Not as an opportunity for sex, but as an opportunity to show real compassion and be a true friend by not only refusing the woman’s advances, but also seeing that she gets home safely, and then maybe checking in on her the next day.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, young men are not just looking for sex. They are mainly looking for love. It’s a shame that so many young people see sex as a way of getting love and showing love. Because sometimes the most loving thing is to NOT have sex. And sometimes that can open the door to a much deeper relationship based not upon getting love, but upon giving love.
Here’s a link to Sarah’s book:

I’m glad I not longer have teevee! MSNBC has become more disappointing over the past 3 yrs. But when they dumped Ronan AND Joy Reid I had been on the edge. But now they’ve dumped NOW AND Ed Schulz! And somehow they’ve left the Rev and Chris Hayes who can’t control an interview.
eyelashviper August 4th, 2015 at 13:01
and they have given high status to Chuck Toad, Joe Schmoe, and Luke Russert (not a bad buy, but woefully unprepared for the kinds of news that the opines about).
I do watch Jose Diaz Balart at times in the am, as he proudly reports on Latino news, and is one member of his infamous family who is fairly objective and does not fit into the Cuban-American fanatic strait jacket.

I so agree with you about Chucky Cheese. Joe must have dirt on somebody. Jose is all that’s left of the talking heads but can pick him up elsewhere. I’ve had a grudge against MSNBC since they dumped Martin Bashir and got royally pissed about Ronan and Joy Reid. I’d rather sit and read.

new twist on an old story
Gay couple assaulted by a homophobic thug ..
But he chose the wrong gay couple .
Two men shopping in a SoHo bodega were confronted by a homophobic man who began yelling anti-gay slurs before punching one of them in the face.
The men, Daniel Lennox-Choate and Larry Lennox-Choate, happen to be the first homosexual men to be married at West Point Military Academy.
After the 40-year-old man hit Daniel, his husband came to his defense, according to Larry’s Facebook page.
“He left covered in his own blood with his tail between his legs after I handled the situation and tossed him in the street like the coward loser he is,” Larry’s wrote.

Stratolaunch space flights are set to begin this year
When Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen,
legendary aerospace designer Burt Rutan and private spaceflight
proponent Elon Musk team up on something, folks are bound to pay
attention — especially when they’re promising nothing short of a
“revolution in space transportation.” At the center of that ambitious
goal is a new company backed by Allen, Stratolaunch Systems, and a
massive new aircraft to be designed and built by Rutan’s Scaled Composites.
If all goes as planned, it will be the size of two 747s (with a
wingspan greater than the length of a football field), and it will be
able to carry a 120 foot long rocket built by Musk’s SpaceX
to an altitude suitable for launch into orbit. Stratolaunch hopes to do
that for a “fraction” of the cost of current launches, and it intends
to eventually send everything from satellites to manned capsules into
space.
As you might expect, however, all of that is still in the early stages. According to Spaceflight Now,
Stratolaunch currently employs around 100 people (it says it plans a
“significant ramp-up”), and complete details on the aircraft itself
remain a bit murky (intentionally so, according to Allen). Flight
testing is currently slated for the “2015 timeframe,” though, with the
first launch expected a year later. What’s more, while it’s not clear
how much Allen plans to invest in the project, he has managed to attract
some other big names to the project; former NASA Administrator Mike
Griffin has joined as a board member, and Gary Wentz, a former chief
engineer at NASA, will serve as President and CEO. Head on past the
break for a teaser video of what they have planned.
