Larry Kramer: Same-Sex Marriage Will Be In The Courts For Years
I had a rare opportunity to sit down with playwright, author and activist Larry Kramer to discuss his new book, The American People, Volume 1: Search For My Heart. Kramer’s autobiographical “The Normal Heart” was a smash on HBO, as is the documentary about him, “Love and Anger”.
Our wide-ranging talk included his take on why historians have ignored homosexuality, whether founding fathers like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were gay, and Kramer’s work as founder of both the Gay Men’s Health Crisis and Act Up! He also gave his take on why activism now isn’t what it was during the heyday of those organizations.
Kramer says the search for an AIDS cure is “a mess,” and same sex-marriage will be in the courts for years.
