Mobile Home Park In Florida Threatens To Evict Elderly Residents Who Accept Food Aid
Pearl Jones is 81 years old and has lived at the Carlyn Estates Mobile Home Park in Palmetto, Florida, for more than 30 years. Now she has been told by the manager that she will be evicted if she continues to receive food donations.
Yes, you read that right.
Jones says Tonia Sonju, manager of the park, gave her a handwritten letter saying she would be evicted if she continued receiving donations from a local church’s food bank. And others have also been told the same thing.
Ms. Jones remarked:
The owner had her people follow the delivery trucks and mark down the numbers of the trailers who got it. Now, no one will accept food. They don’t want to be evicted. This lady is from California and she said no one in here needs it. She thinks everyone in here has a lot of money. Well, I need it….READ MORE at LiberalAmerica.org

This can’t possibly be legal. Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill could put this a$$hole on the run.

This is what could happen if the rwnj’s gain complete control. The comment to “go across the street should be plastered across the papers. Sue the woman and own the park.

Heartless freaking jerks but it doesn’t surprise me. The county next to where I live has all sorts of pseudo religious right wing zealots with nothing better to do than follow people around they feel are not worthy of social security, disability, welfare or food aid. They also patrol the local state parks and such on the lookout for gay people having sex ,even though it’s never, ever been proven. And the frigging bastards are almost always drawing benefits themselves and bragging about how much good they do with their churches in the local paper. And they preach against ” Obama ” constantly while wailing about denominations other than babtist and evangelical. So it doesn’t surprise me, I just wonder if the manager/owner is of the same stripe. A batshit, crazy, teabagging, religious, self important zealot with nothing else better to do. I hope the residents down in Florida sue and take them to the cleaners, they deserve it.

This is that “private charity” that the RWersare always saying should replace EBT and welfare.
Yup,private citizens will take care of our elderly and infirm, because their big hearts are guided by Jebus.
Disfuggingusting.
ribbie149 July 20th, 2015 at 20:24
This is just down the road from where I live and I can tell you that there are many seniors who need this kind of help in my area. The owner of this park needs to have the crap sued out of him.

I bet the manager claims to be Christian.
rg9rts July 21st, 2015 at 07:46
And NOT a member of the church that has the food pantry.
Suzanne McFly July 21st, 2015 at 08:21
Ha, she doesn’t go to church, she just claims she is a Christian. As far as praying for others, she doesn’t have the time.

There are thousands of such trailer parks in Florida, many retirees, living on fixed income, and it is not unusual that they are owned and run by greedy zealots who impose their views upon the residents. Written into their contracts are lots of nasty and controlling rules and regulations, so that the management and owners can behave like storm troopers.
The worst is The Villages, a huge retirement center south of Ocala, which has various sections, from trailers to mansions, and the owner is a rw Nazi who pipes Rush Limbaugh over the pa system in commercial and public areas. Anyone daring to speak their mind politically is hounded and threatened.
Private Enterprise, the key to making the lives of others intolerable…

Park manager , thinking she was in Texas
Tommie July 20th, 2015 at 22:41
Is this for real, WTF, kicking out a 81 year old lady and others for receiving food from the church, how very Christian of you if you are one, which i do not think you are after this!
whatthe46 July 20th, 2015 at 22:55
makes you wonder if she has spies checking the mailboxes for food stamp cards.
Dwendt44 July 21st, 2015 at 01:14
This is a case of a food pantry bringing bags of can goods, and perhaps some bread, pasta, etc.. to the home. Not the ETB cards. No one likely knows who gets the SNAP card. I wonder if that ban includes meals on wheels.
Talk to a lawyer right soon.

maybe someone should plant some drugs in a planter in her yard and call the police. just a thought.

If I were her neighbor, I would personally organize a protest and get a news crew to cover it.
However, if she signed a contract agreeing to those terms, then the owner is probably within their legal rights. That’s why I will never choose to live in a place that requires me to sign a restrictive agreement.
This case is similar to previous cases in which veterans were prohibited from flying the American flag on their property. Once you’ve signed the agreement, you’ve signed away your rights.
whatthe46 July 21st, 2015 at 00:47
“However, if she signed a contract agreeing to those terms, then the owner is probably within their legal rights.” (she was there for 30 years)
‘That’s why I will never choose to live in a place that requires me to sign a restrictive agreement.” there was never any signed contracts or agreements! you wanna know what makes you a disgusting person? you find any and every reason to disparage, the poor, the underprivileged, the minority, or any HUMAN BEING, who doesn’t conform to your “life style.” you are not even just a racist disgusting and bigoted pos, you hate the elderly, even when they are WHITE! what in the fk is wrong, with helping your neighbor? what in the fk is wrong with helping the elderly? FACT IS your ass will (and you hope) will grow old enough to live, at least, another 1/4 century, and in that time, you better hope you don’t end up needing someone one to take care of you. if you ever fall ill of any mind deteriorating disease, the very offspring you’ve raised, will likely put your tired, ignorant, disgusting, ass in a home. and guess what? you’ll be depending on the very human beings that you despise today. and that my “not” friend, is called KARMA. and she’s a sweet heart.
Robert M. Snyder July 21st, 2015 at 00:56
Was my first sentence not clear? “If I were her neighbor, I would personally organize a protest and get a news crew to cover it.”
I would protest ON HER BEHALF, because I agree with you that it is nobody’s business whether she gets food assistance, UNLESS she signed a contract agreeing to some kind of restrictions.
whatthe46 July 21st, 2015 at 01:10
ok. but, i’m seriously not trying to argue with you. the fact that you even mentioned “if they signed…” who in the hell ever moves into any community and signs an agreement, that, “i will never have someone provide me with the basic provisions of life, i.e., FOOD? she was, and so have others, lived in that community for decades. she’s in her 80’s. is this disgusting pos going to bring her a meal? one day. one day. one fk’n day. this evil disgusting person will need the aid of another. and only MS. KARMA will kick her right in her tight wad ass. just as we see with tRump. KARMA, she’s better than a bitch, she gets fk’n even.

After my grandma died, my grandpa lived alone until he 94. He was lonely and lost a lot of weight. My dad arranged for him to have Meals on Wheels. That’s a great organization. It’s not just the food, but also the daily contact with the friendly delivery person who can get help if they see that the person is not well.
If anybody would have tried to stop my grandfather’s Meals on Wheels, I would have been furious and believe me I would have hired a lawyer. But if my grandfather had signed a homeowner agreement years earlier, I suspect the lawyer would have told us that we were in a weak position legally. And that’s when I would get a news crew!
We are totally in agreement that this is a shameful way to treat senior citizens (or anyone, for that matter).
You know what else is shameful? When telemarketers trick your elderly mother-in-law into authorizing monthly checking account deductions for services she will never use. This happened to my wife’s mother. She was still managing her own finances, so they got thousands of dollars from her checking account over a period of two years before we realized it. The company would only agree to refund a small portion of the money, so we contacted our state’s attorney general. They pressured the company to refund most of the money.
The most frustrating thing in these cases is that you never see the scheisters face-to-face. I would love to look them in the eye and tell them what I think of their predatory tactics. But then I’d have to worry about what my clenched fists my do to their faces.
whatthe46 July 21st, 2015 at 02:04
“We are totally in agreement that this is a shameful way to treat senior citizens (or anyone, for that matter).” good. here’s another way to get around this disgusting argument the “owners’ think they have. you don’t have to have a van for food to help, you can have just ordinary citizens paying visits to the elderly. they can just drive up in “regular cars”. who says they aren’t friends or family members. the sad part is, i have to even suggest that so that the elderly can get food into their stomachs.
but, wait, aren’t you a repub…choke. since when did you decide to give a damm. sorry, but i’m in a pissy mood. children are also in need of food.
Robert M. Snyder July 21st, 2015 at 02:32
Yes, I am registered as a Republican. But that doesn’t mean I agree with everything the Party stands for. Far from it. I voted for Obama in 2008, and so did my wife and both of my kids. I have also voted for Democrats at the local level.
I live in a coal mining region. Many of the local streams are totally lifeless due to acid mine runoff from old mines that were created before there were any regulations. There is a very beautiful stream nearby that cascades through some spectacular mountain terrain.
But there is not a living thing in that stream. Not even a crayfish. That’s because of the old mines located upstream. So am I concerned about the environment? Absolutely!
I am a software developer, but a lot of my neighbors work in the coal mining industry. Our local power plant is currently switching from coal to gas. It is causing a lot of disruption for a lot of working-class people.
I know a welder who made his living fixing the coal trucks. He is now trying to sell his business, but can’t find a buyer. If he moves out of the area to find work, he’ll have to take his elderly mother with him, and she will be separated from all of her friends.
I understand the need to transition away from fossil fuels, but I also understand why a lot of people are not crazy about it. Does that make me a Democrat or a Republican? I would say both and neither.
People like us, who think for themselves, don’t really fit into these narrow categories called Democrat and Republican. We form our own opinions about dozens of issues, and then we have to choose the party that is closer to our beliefs. But there are only two choices, and neither one is a very good fit.
Over the past few decades, a lot of people have moved away from the Democratic and Republican parties. When they are asked how they identify themselves, people are increasingly saying “Independent”. That’s probably where I will end up.
What about you? Do you always agree with every position the Democratic leadership takes? I’m guessing you don’t.
When I express opinions here in these comments, I welcome criticism. I always read people’s responses and I do think about what people say to me. All I ask is that you please refrain from calling me names. I do not take orders from the Republican leadership.
I am an American citizen who has his own independent views. Criticize my views. Tell me why you think I am wrong. Help me to understand your point of view. Yes, I am opinionated, but I also read and think about what others say.

Don’t waste your time on this troll
Darksnark July 21st, 2015 at 01:24
They should continue with the food deliveries anyway, and let the scrooge property manager try to carry out evictions.
One phone call to area newspapers will generate national headlines about old people on meager incomes being thrown out of their homes for daring to accept donated food.
The publicity will prove ruinous for whatever douche-entity owns the property, and you can bet money they’ll back down….

makes you think about the guy who’s a billionaire who wants to pay 100mil to someone to find life out in the universe. why not help the real people. having money to play with must be fun some how.

The seniors should get the police and lawyers involved for the harassment by “the manager.” If I was in that position, I would go after that “manager” legally.
illinoisboy1977 July 21st, 2015 at 11:27
This isn’t a problem, in Illinois. I used to live in a trailer park and management tried to ban one of my friends from the park. Since I’m paying rent, they can’t legally keep me from receiving visitors, regardless of how much or how little they like my visitor. They called the Sheriff’s Dept. and the Sheriff, himself, told the manager she can’t dictate who is allowed to come to a tenant’s trailer. They also couldn’t evict me without cause. Having visitors the landlord doesn’t approve of is not cause, under Illinois law. The tenants of the trailer park in this story should look up their rights, under Florida law.
