Deal!
A landmark deal has been reached with Iran.
The agreement, a focal point of U.S. President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, appears set to reshape relations between Iran and the West, with its effects likely to ripple across the volatile Middle East.
Representatives of Iran, the United States and the other nations involved in the marathon talks were holding a final meeting in Vienna on Tuesday.
Speaking ahead of the session, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called the deal a “historic moment,” although he cautioned that it was “not perfect.”
Obama praised the deal reached Tuesday morning, saying the agreement met the goals he had in place throughout negotiations…
Congress has 60 days to review the agreement, giving its opponents plenty of time to dig into the details and challenge the Obama administration’s position.
In Tehran, the deal will need the clear backing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to fend off any objections from hardliners suspicious of an accord with the United States after decades of hostility and mistrust.

john kerry and obama think they’re smart
The GOP will tell us the truth
talibandan2010 July 14th, 2015 at 07:42
No, they won’t. They’re already playing the fear card – Sen. Tom Cotton was spouting the usual lies a few minutes ago on MSNBC’s “Moron Joe.”
Suzanne McFly July 14th, 2015 at 08:30
lindsey was on the show a few minutes ago claiming this deal allows Iran to have nuclear weapons and now Israel will be sitting on a hot bed because obviously all the other countries in the Middle East will now also have nuclear weapons. I was shocked when Joe agreed with lindsey /s), but eventually even Joe said something along the lines of “Well I don’t know what is in that deal and I think it is best to read it before we decide if we like it or not”. Imagine that, read something before you have an opinion on it.

All these repubs, this morning, are throwing crap an the wall to see what will stick. Limbaugh hasn’t told them what to say yet.

The Republican Party is no longer a legitimate governing party. Never mind whether we agree with them on any particular policy issue, they are simply no longer a serious organization.
John Tarter July 14th, 2015 at 08:04
We can not believe in any deal whose result was negotiated by an administration who has lied to us more times than I can count. The west has been snookered again!
talibandan2010 July 14th, 2015 at 08:07
True. Any deal achieved under the Bush-Cheney Regime is not to be believed.

Yes, and I, an 80 year old, look like Julia Roberts. Do you mean “truth” such as Iraq had WMD? Do you mean “the truth,” that President Obama was born in Kenya? Do you mean that old “truth” that Reagan’s “Trickle Down Economics” helps the average citizen? The GOP tells more lies than a teen ager, with beer on his breath and a dented car, tells to his parents.

Looms like a pretty robust deal.
Too bad for the GOP that diplomacy has a better track record than war.

The inspection requirements have an out. Mark my words, there will be few if any inspections. The Iranians are liars and at some point they will get their nukes.
talibandan2010 July 14th, 2015 at 08:06
John Tarter whines, “The inspection requirements have an out.”
Actually, no, they don’t. These are some of the strongest and most rigorous inspection mandates ever set to paper in a nuclear deal.
tracey marie July 14th, 2015 at 12:13

jasperjava July 14th, 2015 at 10:22
Part of me hopes that John Tarter is right, that Iran does get a nuclear weapon, and that they test it right in John Tarter’s ass.
It’s amazing that anyone would trust right-wing fundamentalist fanatics with nuclear weapons. That’s why no Republican must be elected president until they regain some measure of sanity.
The Iranians are reasonable. Republicans are not.

Scopedog July 14th, 2015 at 18:25

Good question–why don’t you ask it of the surviving members of the Reagan Administration–the same guys who were behind the sale of weapons to Iran and funneling the profits to the Contras in Nicaragua. All of it illegal, of course.
…Or maybe you don’t care. More interested in bitching about the Black Guy in the White House who’s scored a major victory without firing a shot or breaking the law.
You’re welcome.

Dubya and Cheney are responsible for the deaths of more Americans than all the Iranians put together in all of history.
Besides, America has killed more Iranian civilians than the other way around:

Warman1138 July 14th, 2015 at 19:26
Absolutely, during the Iran-Iraq war the Reagan administration armed both sides. But only Iraq received chemical weapons help which they used on the battlefield sometimes, indiscriminately.
StoneyCurtisll July 14th, 2015 at 21:41
I wonder if you trust the states of the South, who killed nearly 300, 000 Union soldiers during the civil war. with their rebellion and treasonous war….
pmbalele July 14th, 2015 at 11:37
I do not know about Repubs and TPs. They are worried Iran will get a nuclear weapon. I would not worry if Iran has nuclear weapon; they are not going to use it. I have told people to listen to Ron Paul who said: “We have thousands of Nukes ready to reach Iran if they ever use their low quality Nuke. If they ever attack Israel, there won’t be Iran on the world map. Nobody Iran will survive in the heat and radiation from our nukes. Let them build a nuke as showcase. Note to bomb Israel or their neighbors.” Ron Paul is old and therefore wise.

mcalleyboy July 14th, 2015 at 18:59
I’ll answer to that reply. Take away all sanctions, stop messing with Iran and beef up Israel. Obama claimed he was done with the Middle East and wanted Americans out of that region but look were back and doing the same old things that didn’t work before, what a joke. What we’ve never done is take away all the sanctions because the people who suffer are the poor and working class not the top half of Iran, everybody hates us.
William July 14th, 2015 at 19:06
stop messing with Iran and beef up Israel
Israel is already nuke capable and we give them around a million dollars a day.
Let them take care of their own problems.

Jimmy Carter never said that the war between Israel and Palestine was over, liar.
Jimmy Carter brokered a peace treaty between Israel and EGYPT (which, for uninformed right-wing blockheads like you, is NOT Palestine). Last I checked, it’s been over 35 years since that treaty, and there hasn’t been a war between Israel and Egypt in all that time.

But I can show lots of evidence of Ronald Reagan selling weapons and advanced ‘weapons systems’ to Iran. The deal involved terrorist Contra rebels, used taxpayer money illegally, profuse lying to the American people and was done in secret like any good republican would do.

The Obama Administration has been claiming that they wanted to keep this deal strictly concerned with the nuclear issue , thus there was to be no bargaining for the American prisoners now being held by Iran or any other issues.
Now it has come out now that at the last minute, Iran wanted the restrictions on conventional weapons and ballistic missiles to be included. Despite our military leadership’s counsel to the President that under no circumstances should those restrictions be removed, Obama caved to the Iranians. By this example, we see that the American people have once again been lied to by the President.

Iran began construction on it’s first nuclear reactor fired power plant way back in 1975, when the Shah was in power…
In August 1974, the Shah said, “Petroleum is a noble material, much too
valuable to burn… We envision producing, as soon as possible,
23,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity using nuclear plants”.
