County Clerk In Trouble For Displaying 20 Crosses On Wall

Posted by | July 12, 2015 09:08 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Religion Top Stories

Something tells me she’d be in trouble with Christians if she displayed the star and crescent.

For her office in a courthouse, Connie Wade, a county clerk for Gregg County in East Texas, chose to display over 20 crosses on her walls, visible to the public. However, she recently found herself in trouble with the atheist group Freedom From Religion Foundation. The group sent the clerk a letter emphasizing its strong objection to the decorations, reported KLTV.

“The religious significance of the Latin cross is unambiguous and indisputable,” Rebecca Markert, attorney for FFRF, reportedly told Wade, additionally mentioning that federal courts “have held displays of Latin crosses on public property to be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion,” said KLTV.

The letter called her displays an “obvious effort to proselytize on behalf of a particular religion,” and the group demanded that she take down the crosses immediately.
And ask and you shall receive: Shortly after receiving the critical letter, Wade voluntarily removed the crosses, according to the station KYTX.

However, while FFRF might be celebrating their victory, the locals in Gregg County are not too happy about this. Many do not even believe Wade was in violation of anything.

“This is a Christian nation, and this nation was founded on Jesus Christ and the Great I Am, the Bible, the King James Bible,” remarked Reymond Wright to KYTX.

Hmmm. I must have missed that part of the Constitution.

If she wants to work in a church, let her get a job in a church. Then she can put up as many crosses as she wants. Do these things work like four leaf clovers or horseshoes?

    • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 11:23

May I just interject one thing here ? if she was to get a job in an office working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she could not display any crosses as they do not use or believe in the symbol of the cross.

      • Dwendt44 July 12th, 2015 at 11:34

        But they aren’t christian either.

        • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 12:22

The actual definition of Christian is a belief in Jesus Christ. This is a mainstay of their religion, but they do throw in a lot of Old Testament as well. The Mormon religion is quite a mix of several different aspects of New World. per say, Religious beliefs with many Old World beliefs mixed in. It is not as complicated as say Catholicism but then it is no where near as old either. I do not participate in this church but I do study their history as they have had some very interesting and colorful characters in it. It is also new enough that it is easy for us today to relate to it’s history.

          • Dwendt44 July 13th, 2015 at 02:00

True, the pedophile con man that started the religion is a real study in flim flam.
He could sell ice cubes to the Eskimos.

  2. FASCandAL July 12th, 2015 at 09:42

Why am I not surprised that Alan takes another stab at religion which he so much hates? Sorry to break the news to you Alan, but it’s not going away regardless of how much it offends you.

    • Budda July 12th, 2015 at 09:48

You don’t get it, do you? Too complicated for you to comprehend?

      • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:21

Too Righteous for me to tolerate.

    • William July 12th, 2015 at 10:02

Then you would have no problem with a clerk displaying 20 satanic pentagrams right?
After all it’s religious freedom right?

      • FASCandAL July 12th, 2015 at 10:05

Sure. Go for it if you want. Doesn’t bother me. I’m strong in my own personal convictions so it would not be a threat to threat to me.

        • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 10:35

But when someone comes for GOVERNMENT services, he doesn’t want to see religious symbols in that GOVERNMENT office. That might imply that that GOVERNMENT agency favors one religion over another, or over no religion. Appearances speak volumes.

          • Dwendt44 July 12th, 2015 at 11:33

That’s the whole idea. They wish to give the impression that the government supports, approves of, or endorses THEIR religion.

            • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 11:43

I was explaining it to the idiot above.

            • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:19

It is okay to display or promote religious Symbols as long as the Religion Represented is in line with My Religious beliefs. All other Religious symbols should be banded except mine. Right ?

          • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:16

            Right on !

        • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 11:33

It is a commendable attribute to be strong in your personal religious convictions. I commend you on this. But, it is not okay to display, practice or otherwise promote any form of religious beliefs in the government offices or buildings or any place that is owned by all of the citizens of the United States or any government entities there-in. Such right as given to all of the citizens, by the First Amendment to OUR Constitution of the United States.

        • Red Mann July 12th, 2015 at 23:36

That’s nice, but your “personal convictions” are just that personal and should not be shoved in people’s faces in a government workspace.

      • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 10:37

Except they usually say “democrat party.”

    • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 11:16

The word Viking was coined by the Early English around the year 1,000. They used it as a word for Savages. The reason they used it was the Norsemen were attacking and destroying Christian Monasteries in retaliation for Christian attacks on Norsemen in an attempt to convert or kill all peoples who were not Christians. SO, how would you feel if I held a public office and displayed 20+ symbols that appear to be upside down crosses and ignorantly referred to as Anti-Christ symbols by uninformed people like you. The symbol I am referring to is the symbol of the Norsemen’s God Thor’s Hammer. Now think about this. My God carries a Hammer. Your God was nailed to a cross. Any questions ?

      • William July 12th, 2015 at 13:50

        Seems legit.

Only ice Cubes for my Scotch Rocks.

    • Dwendt44 July 12th, 2015 at 11:32

Why do you think Alan hates religion? Could it be that the ‘christians’ of the Third Reich tried their darnedest to kill all Jews they could get their hands on? OR just as likely, could it be the violations of the Separation of Church and State the he brings to the public.

      • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 14:50

He somehow has the idea that Alan hates his religion, because he shows so many idiots who profess to be christian.

    • whatthe46 July 12th, 2015 at 17:22

it’s the ignorance and the stupidity that’s offensive. what’s wrong with showing the public just how ignorant and stupid they can actually be and usually are all the damn time?

      • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:11

Why let people think you are stupid when you can Preach your Religion and remove all doubt.

    • tracey marie July 12th, 2015 at 20:58

who cares what you believe, keep it off public and government property. Stop trolling and whining

      • whatthe46 July 12th, 2015 at 21:05

That is why Politicians of old stood on Soap Boxes when they gave their speech’s. The words just flew right over the top of the peoples heads.

              • whatthe46 July 12th, 2015 at 23:38

hell, that sounds like a lot of our trolls. and this person must be short as well cause everything goes over sally’s head. this is what she had to say about the confederate rag:

                sally:
I’m not a racist. Not nearly as racist as the people that are taking down this flag.

                **
                somemore of sally:
Tell ya what. Maybe you should learn who u are telling to get educated on MY history. This is my life and my country and I’m gonna tell ya I don’t know everything but American history is kinda my thing. Yes I’m biased because I’m a southerner but you can’t argue with facts. What do you think I need to know.

                me:
well, living on 6.5 acres of land, you can surely parade around with your bed sheets and know one will know. how perfect. by the way the KKKlows are holding a rally in columbia this week, protesting the taking down of their racist flag, because “southern white pride heritage crap. a symbol of failure, bloodlust for human bondage, racism, treason and murder.” make sure your white pillow case and bed sheet is nice and clean.

                somemore of sally:
And I care because…why?? I dislike them as much as I do the blacks that want it down. They are all part of the reason it is coming down. BTW I change my sheets every other day. I do appreciate the concern for my hygiene though.:). that flag doesn’t represent any of the things you mentioned. Most of all that flag doesn’t stand for failure to my ancestors or to me. Go back to sleep!
                The End!

She seems to be some what knowledgeable but she has a hard time expressing herself.

                  • whatthe46 July 13th, 2015 at 00:03

lol. she said she cleans her sheets every other day. i asked her about the one tooth. she didn’t answer.

                    • The Original Just Me July 13th, 2015 at 00:29

Speaking of sheets, my scotch is kicking in so I think I am going to slide in between two of them. Nighty Night.

Hard heads means reality just bounces off.

    • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:08

I just don’t want it shoved in my face or down my throat. I believe Religion s a very personal thing. And personally, I wish all others would keep their personal religious beliefs to themselves because no matter how much they push and shove, they can not save my soul. Only I can do that.

      • Dwendt44 July 13th, 2015 at 01:55

That’s assuming there is such a thing.

    • Red Mann July 12th, 2015 at 23:33

Expecting people to respect the meaning of the 1st Amendment is not hating religion. I personally despise what evil and horrors religion has inspired over the millennia while claiming some special privilege.

  3. joe sanford July 12th, 2015 at 10:34

Why do people find it necessary to take their religion out of their domain and push it on everyone else. Be happy with your own ignorance and leave everyone else to their’s.

    • whatthe46 July 12th, 2015 at 17:21

and this woman would be the first to yell out, stop pushing homosexuality down her throat. well, i’ve never seen someone who is gay display dildos plastered to their walls at work. have you?

      • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:03

No, most of them keep them in their purse.

      • Red Mann July 12th, 2015 at 23:30

I think that dildo usage is probably much higher amongst hetero women.

  4. The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 11:04

What would our world be without Religious Christian Idiots—–SANE !

    • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 14:51

To be honest, the same could be said about any other variety of idiot.

      • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 23:02

If we were to get rid of all the various forms of idiots from the face of the Earth, I would be wandering around all alone hollering out Hello, Hello, is anybody there ?

  5. TMBatKK July 12th, 2015 at 11:17

While I am not offended by the crosses (seriously, I think people are stupid to be offended by graven images, but to each his/her own; we all have our hangups), I have to wonder where so many people get the idea that we ever were a “Christian nation”? Did they not teach the same history I was taught, where settlers and pilgrims came to get AWAY from organized religion? Did they not get the same history where Jews and Muslims and Atheists came to America in rather large “herds”? The migration of people had nothing to do with “Oh, lookie! I am a Christian” and EVERYTHING to do with “Oh crap, I’m tired of being persecuted because I don’t believe like the sheep are being told to do”. It’s really quite incredible to have 300 million people congregated on one land mass that are ignorant of their own ancestry and beginnings. Seriously.

    • Dwendt44 July 12th, 2015 at 11:28

Unlikely they were taught the same history as you were. The religious schools, now partly funded by taxpayers, teach that this is a ‘christian nation’. Some public schools also step over the line and teach the same nonsense.

    • Larry Schmitt July 12th, 2015 at 11:45

This is not about whether you are offended, it’s about a government office displaying religious symbols. What would people say if she had quotations from the Koran prominently displayed? Would the people in her hometown who are backing her now, have the same opinion?

    • The Original Just Me July 12th, 2015 at 22:58

It makes you wonder if they were never taught about the Puritans or that little Witchy thing in Salem.

  6. rg9rts July 12th, 2015 at 13:29

Another one that will never get it

    • dave-dr-gonzo July 12th, 2015 at 23:25

I guess they’re not going to be flocking to my Fans Of Kenyan Muslim Socialist Jade Helm page on Facebook…

  8. allison1050 July 12th, 2015 at 20:09

None of these so called christians have any notion as to the founding of this country.

    • dave-dr-gonzo July 12th, 2015 at 23:24

It would be far more accurate to say the nation was founded by Freemasons.

    • Red Mann July 12th, 2015 at 23:28

They all believe the Lyin’ for Jesus crap of David Barton.
