Perkins: Stop Saying ‘God Bless America’
Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins says we should no longer say “God bless America” after the Supreme Court approved gay marriage.
Perkins said on his radio show yesterday that the U.S. will no longer receive God’s blessing.
When a caller, Hector, told Perkins that he no longer likes to hear the phrase “God bless America” now that the Supreme Court has struck down bans on gay marriage, Perkins responded that “it’s hard for us to ask God to bless America when we have blatantly rejected what God has said a nation should do. So every time I hear that, ‘God bless America,’ I’m thinking, America is not in a posture for God to bless it…
“I just don’t think you can make it any worse than what our courts have made the Constitution,” Perkins said. “They’re ignoring the Constitution. They act like the average American can’t even read the plain text of the Constitution. They act as if we’re idiots. They have completely obliterated the Constitution and its meaning, treating it as if it were Silly Putty.”

And I wish they’d stop playing that awful Kate Smith recording at the baseball games.

I went to a Diamondbacks game and they started to play ‘God Bless America’ in the 7th inning stretch. I didn’t stand like everyone else and put my hand over my heart because the song isn’t our National Anthem, and because I’m an atheist, two strikes. I had all sorts of people glaring at me and motioning me to stand up. One guy threatened me.
Wouldn’t it be nice to just get back to ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’, and let sporting events be just that instead of a religious revival meeting?

F Tony Perkins!
Larry Schmitt July 10th, 2015 at 20:28
I thought he had gained some common sense. They should stop saying it because it’s meaningless. Whatever god there is, if any, has no more affection for this country than any other. It’s one of the lamest platitudes ever invented by politicians, and each succeeding politician is scared to death to stop saying it.

How do people know what God said?
I am a believer but I don’t believe he or she said anything to anyone.
I also believe charlatans are crooks and they are everywhere… in religion and science especially, and it’s over crowded standing room only in the GOP with them.

I believe that citizens should be able to express any sediments they please as long as those sediments are not derogatory or harmful to anyone. Now just because someone believes that asking for a blessing on or to what or who ever does not mean that the recipient has to believe or respond in any way. If I want to bestow any blessing on someone, that is my business. but That person does not have to reply or acknowledge the blessing. Bestowing a blessing is not implying that the recipient is religious or follows a certain belief. It is an action of your own personal belief and is not a indication of belief of the recipient. So I can ask my God to bestow a blessing on my country and it is nobody else’s business. We also cannot demand that our elected officials bestow a blessing that reflects our own personal beliefs.

Okay…I’ll sing it instead!
♫God bless America,
Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above;
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.
God bless America,
My home, sweet home.♪

“So every time I hear that, ‘God bless America,’ I’m thinking, America is not in a posture for God to bless it”
So if I understand you correctly Tony, God is not capable of doing something unless we ( humans) set him up for it. Like lobbing one over the plate so he can smack it over the fence. Yeah , in fact that’s why I became an atheist Tony.

“Perkins said on his radio show yesterday that the U.S. will no longer receive God’s blessing.”
Did Perkins ever consider that God’s blessing may have arrived on September 11 2001?
When I deal in mythology I figure anything goes.
Warman1138 July 11th, 2015 at 02:10
Soooooo, Perkins knows the mind of God. What amazing power he must wield. Or is it self serving arrogance and despite?
