Sudden-Death Overtime!
I’m going to give you some quotes and see if you can tell if they are from today or from 1938:
- ” [this] crackpot legislation…is utterly impractical…[and] would be much more destructive than constructive to the very purposes which it is designed to serve.”
- “Supporters of these regulations say they want to increase Americans’ take home pay, but these sweeping changes to the rules could mean anything but. If these regulations stand, that mobility and adaptability of employee schedules, which make our industry appealing, will be severely diminished.”
- “…[it] constitutes a step in the direction of communism…”
- “[Overtime] will not guarantee more income, but instead will negatively impact small businesses and drastically limit employment opportunities.”
- “It seems as if these proposed rules have the potential to radically change industry standards and negatively impact our workforce.”
- “…[it] will destroy small industry.”
- “[how could business] find any time left to provide jobs if we are to persist in loading upon it these everlastingly multiplying governmental mandates and delivering it to the mercies of multiplying and hampering federal bureaucracy?”

It wouldn’t surprise me that some of the same falsehoods leveled on FDR were the same or similar as those maliciously tossed upon President Obama.

The guy on the left looks like Mr. Monopoly, minus the top hat.

The word salad babble along with copious amounts of hyperbole seem to be the Blue Plate Special today….
“[Overtime] will not guarantee more income, but instead will negatively impact small businesses and drastically limit employment opportunities.”
Right…..earning more money really means earning less money…where have I heard that before….
Oh yeah…
“War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength”

I had an employer once that I had bothered for a raise for over two years. Their response each time was ” you get overtime don’t you. ” I quit , they got a new manager and were out of business a year later. Hah!
