223,000 Jobs Added In June

Posted by | July 2, 2015 09:01 | Filed under: Economy Good News Politics

The economy continues to improve with hundreds of thousands of jobs added in June.

…employers added 223,000 jobs in June and the unemployment rate fell to 5.3 percent.

After bottoming out in March as the overall economy stalled, hiring has rebounded in recent months along with other indicators like home sales and consumer spending.

Despite the drop in the unemployment rate, from 5.5 percent in May, average hourly earnings stayed flat, disappointing hopes that wages were finally increasing for many workers.

In another cautionary development, the participation rate, which in many ways is a better gauge of economic robustness than the oft-cited jobless rate, fell 0.3 percentage point in June. With June’s drop, the participation rate is now at its lowest level since 1977. And the job gains for April and May were revised downward by 60,000 jobs.

    Complete failure as a socialist.

    The participation number is misleading.

As the year 2011 began on Jan. 1, the oldest members of the Baby Boom generation celebrated their 65th birthday. In fact, on that day, today, and for every day for the next 19 years, 10,000 baby boomers will reach age 65.

Well Mr. President, you’re failing miserably at tanking the economy!

  4. Hirightnow July 2nd, 2015 at 14:47

But…but…the numbers are cooked! U6! Foodstamps!!!
(We don’t get too many RW trolls here,so I figured I’d start the arguments in case they got busy elsewhere…)

      always thinking of others

      • Hirightnow July 2nd, 2015 at 17:27

        It’s my giving nature.
For example, I’d like to give just about every declared Republican candidate a one-way ticket to Somalia.

        • bpollen July 4th, 2015 at 18:02

Start a go-fund-me page to raise money so we can provide all the Republican candidates a high-colonic? They ARE full o’ shite.

    • arc99 July 2nd, 2015 at 17:24

I would like to help too.

So how about, the numbers are all skewed. Romney will win in a landslide.

Sorry. But I let my subscription to the right wing bullsh*t daily briefing lapse.. That’s the best I can do.

      • Hirightnow July 2nd, 2015 at 17:26

Just mention something about how Obama is wiping his arse with the constitution, how he and Eric Holder are racists, and toss in the word “marxist”…you’ll do fine.

    • bpollen July 4th, 2015 at 17:57

We get enough RW trolls. If you don’t think it’s enough, then we need to discuss your masochism! ☺

    Unemployment rate for African Americans:
    9.6% TOTAL
    31.5% 16 to 19yrs old
    16.6% 20 to 24 yrs old
And these numbers do not include those who are not even looking for a job.

Hard to keep track of the Obama-hater talking points without a program.

When it suits the agenda of demonizing poor blacks, the complaint is why don’t those blacks go out and get a job

When it suits the agenda of demonizing the President, the complaint consists of crocodile tears about black unemployment.

I am preparing myself for the next load of anti Obama BS.

Meanwhile in the real world where facts and not blind partisan hostility are used to form opinions. Employment trends that have been consistent for over a decade are now exclusively the fault of President Obama?

It is this kind of blatant intellectual dishonesty which accomplishes nothing other than confirming that the opinions of knee-jerk Obama-haters are not worth the time it takes to read them.

      http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/factchecking-rand-paul/ar-AAaxKYQ

In 2013, Paul claimed that “black unemployment in America is double white unemployment” and “hasn’t budged” under President Obama. He was right about black unemployment being double white unemployment, but the ratio of black-to-white unemployment rates was actually below the historical average at the time and remains so. As for black unemployment not budging under Obama, that was wrong in 2013 and remains wrong today. It reached a high of 16.8 percent in March 2010 and dropped to a low of 12.5 percent in November 2013, which was the most current month for which data was available when Paul made his remark. The black unemployment rate since then has fallen even further, dropping to 10.1 percent in March.

wow, you stuck a lot of words in my mouth that I didn’t say. I merely posted some facts from the BLS.

        • arc99 July 3rd, 2015 at 10:21

and failed to point how those FACTS portray a trend that has been present years before President Obama was inaugurated.

Lies of omission are no less misleading than lies of commission. so you did not “merely” post facts from BLS. You posted facts without any clarification on what those facts actually represent,e.g. that black unemployment has historically exceeded that of whites, but the disparity has improved under this President.

Maybe you just feel that any examination of the actual strength of the labor economy needs a lot of explaining, defending, equivocating, and contextualization.

            • bpollen July 4th, 2015 at 17:55

Wow, that showed arc99! He’s just scared of your brilliant analysis of long-term unemployment trends and how they can all be blamed on Obama. Or is it that he blew your partisan post out of the water by FACTS rather than inference?

    • William July 3rd, 2015 at 01:05

      Wow.
More than two thirds of high school aged black kids are holding down a job.
      Pretty good.
Any more right wing bumper stickers you wish to share?

    This recovery is still tepid.
We are still bumping along at barely above stall speed.
One major economic shock could erase all gains since 2009.
The Fed Reserve still does not feel comfortable raising rates and taking our economy off of life support…6 years of life support and we have not healed sufficiently.
The unemployment rate only seems low due to the collapsing participation rate – and that is not entirely explained by baby-boomers, but also by tens of millions of 20 and 30-somethings who remain jobless and living at home with their parents.

I hope you are all preparing yourselves for the next economic crash.

    • William July 3rd, 2015 at 00:44

64 months. A record the longest continuous period of job growth in the history of this nation.
Maybe you and Limbaugh can join hands, close your eyes, click your heels together and mutter over and over “I hope he fails, I hope he fails”.
In the meantime us patriots are going to celebrate America and it comeback from the brink of disaster. that 8 years of Bush frat boy politics took us to.

      • johnnybizzoy July 3rd, 2015 at 00:55

If the economy is so strong then why won’t the Fed raise interest rates? Why have wages remained stagnant? Why is the participation rate the lowest since 1977? Why is youth unemployment so high? Why must we borrow hundreds of billions of dollars every year just to fund the government?

        • William July 3rd, 2015 at 01:11

Wages remain stagnant because the GOP is fighting tooth and nail to keep the minimum wage down to (adjusted for inflation ect.) below Reagan era levels.
You don’t think Bush borrowed money for his two unfunded wars?
Didn’t you listen to the Presidents speech.
Let me make it really, REALLY simple for you.
Bush leaves office. Unemployment over nine percent.
          Today, Unemployment under six percent.
          Questions?
