Supreme Court Rules Gay Marriage Is An American Right
President Obama tweeted
Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else. #LoveWins
— President Obama (@POTUS) June 26, 2015
Celebrity presidential candidate Donald Trump was a bit less well disposed to the news:
Once again the Bush appointed Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has let us down. Jeb pushed him hard! Remember!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 26, 2015
The New York Times reports:
[The ruling] came against the backdrop of fast-moving changes in public opinion, with polls indicating that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.
As in earlier civil rights cases, the Supreme Court had moved cautiously and methodically, laying careful judicial groundwork for a transformative decision.
As late as October, the justices ducked the issue, refusing to hear appeals from rulings allowing same-sex marriage in five states. That decision delivered a tacit victory for gay rights, immediately expanding the number of states with same-sex marriage to 24, along with the District of Columbia, up from 19.
Largely as a consequence of the Supreme Court’s decision not to act, the number of states allowing same-sex marriage has since grown to 36, and more than 70 percent of Americans live in places where gay couples can marry.
The court did not agree to resolve the issue for the rest of the nation until January, in cases filed by gay and lesbian couples in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The court heard extended arguments in April, and the justices seemed sharply divided over what the Constitution has to say about same-sex marriage.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs said their clients had a fundamental right to marry and to equal protection, adding that the bans they challenged demeaned their dignity, imposed countless practical difficulties and inflicted particular harm on their children.
The Detroit Free Press tweeted the final paragraph of the ruling:

ran across this in article about red states readying for gay marriage.. loved it
Gerard Rickhoff, who oversees marriage licenses in Bexar County, Texas, said that if same-sex couples are discriminated against elsewhere in the state, “Just get in your car and come on down the highway. You’ll be embraced here.”

I live in Chicago and we never had a problem with gays or gay marriage (well, except for the churches threatening us with eternal damnation if gays are allowed to exist. But we pretty much tell them to shut up and sit down), so I don’t understand how this is a problem in the goofy southern states.
Bunya June 26th, 2015 at 13:26
Thanks Obama. And I do mean, “thank you, Mr. President”!
It was never a question of whether it was (religiously) right or wrong. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 16:12
What is right is to be honest about it.
This issue showed that legal wrangling can be enabled by redefining the terms
There are 2 specific reasons why this issue even got this far.
.
A) …. the comprehension of the term ‘marriage’ has changed. It was historically for lineage protection involving matters of procreation. The marriage commitment is made, that upon copulation if a conception occurs the man can be guaranteed it is his. In the olden days, no conception, was reason for annulment and without copulation the commitment itself can be held invalid.
.
B)… the ‘gender’ represents the sexual orientation of the human biology. (basic common sense)
.
.
Summary: same sex copulation cannot conceive because the sexual orientation, requires opposite sex, to biologically procreate, naturally.
.
Conclusion: Homosexual Marriage is an Oxymoron of Terms.
..
The best way to address this issue, humanly, is to be honest publically!
Chinese Democracy June 26th, 2015 at 16:15
C… those stupid arguments can be rebuffed easily. You are to far behind to be taken seriously
You lose
deal with it
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 16:36
Since you have no rebuff, you are not taken seriously.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 17:01
Marriage between non-fertile pairs should be illegal, is that your argument?
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 17:08
No that is the spinners twist. It is the typical dialogue of the slow minded; ranting strawman arguments.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 17:22
Spinner’s twist? Sounds like a dance.
Sorta like the dance you’re doing avoiding answering my question, which was merely clarifying your already stated position.
Your words.
Own them.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 17:38
I do own ‘them’!
“Summary: same sex copulation cannot conceive because the sexual
orientation, requires opposite sex, to biologically procreate,
naturally”
.
.
Same sex copulation of human beings, cannot procreate……………………. check!
The gender is the biological evidence of the ‘sexual orientation’ of the living process, called a human being…………………………………………………………………………………….. check
.
For a life to live into the next generation, it must procreate …………………… check
.
.
Biologically the argument is about factual but the concepts were never bridged within your brain, before …………………….. apparently ………………………………………. check
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 18:22
So, what does that have to do with MARRIAGE?
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 18:36
My point exactly.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:05
Then WTF is your point, exactly?
That those who don’t marry sacrifice their stake in the future?
That those people born gay have no hope of influencing the future?
That anyone who marries another of their gender has no effect on the outcome of society?
(I’ll claim that those are all answered with a “no”, BTW)
Where are you going with this?
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:16
I agree. No on YOUR questions there-of posted.
I am there; if people have a chance of the truth regarding life and death that is correct, then they have a chance to live longer and know it.
That’s it!
Anyone can marry anyone, if you like but the facts of life, are of more importance, than marriage every day of the week
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:42
People being attracted to others of the same sex ARE the “facts of life”!
People who cleave unto others of the opposite gender, but refuse to succor their offspring, are also the facts of life.
And, to add to the fun, those people who are attracted to the same sex many times choose to succor those same children that the heterosexual couples abandon.
Where’s your messiah NOW?{ best Billy Crystal voice}
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:54
I am attracted to J Lo.
AS I quote: “People who cleave unto others of the opposite gender, but refuse to succor their offspring, are also the facts of life”……………….. i know dear. i have very close friends that were horrified by what they had been exposed to.
and thanx for giving to others, even if not your children. That’s the mosterestestest bestest.
.
Who? What if i told you that i was the guy with the name upon the head. (Mathematical theorem describing how the transition of mass/energy/time works, to the letter. I call it the name of god)
.
But i didn’t tell you yet, i asked what if?

Chinese Democracy June 26th, 2015 at 17:07
heres my rebuff..
Marriage is not for the purpose of procreation
Being born gay is about as NATURAL as a person can get
You are a simpleton bigot parroting old ridiculous talking points
enjoy
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 17:29
“Marriage” by word/term was ‘created’ for lineage/procreation commitment. But currently, that concept is not even considered. I will so stipulate.
.
No one is born gay. That fib is as stupid as believing a person is born chosen by ‘god’ or born a ‘religion’.
The gender is the biological evidence of the sexual orientation of the living process.
.
I cant help it, if simpletons don’t have enough education to comprehend the life of the human being is biologically sustained. It is almost as if you could tell your skin cells to not procreate and expect to live beyond the immediate life of the cells.
Chinese Democracy June 26th, 2015 at 17:47
“Marriage” was about property .. I will so stipulate
If sexual orientation is a choice..come over here and prove it baby

Apparently you had yours taken from you!
The psychosis has many examples.
TuMadre, Ph.D June 26th, 2015 at 16:25
I don’t believe in state marriage whatsoever, but your arguments against marriage are contradictory, unless you think that anyone who happens to be sterile should be denied the right to marriage (gay or straight), as well.
That said, I do not disagree with the “redefining of terms.” Many SJW’s prove the horseshoe theory correct, and argue for many of the same things that Stormfronters are arguing for, even if the argument is for different reasons. Picture related.
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 17:18
you are an idiot, this is about marriage equality not school rooms.
TuMadre, Ph.D June 26th, 2015 at 17:54
I actually believe in state schooling, as that is a universal good. State marriage penalizes the people who are unable to find love by making them pay more in taxes. That’s not fair.
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 19:57
That is a small part, the tax benefits are there, same with people with children, there is also medical , legal, divorce legalities that are made to protect as well.
TuMadre, Ph.D June 26th, 2015 at 20:08
I believe that one is responsible for the decisions they make, so I’m not a big believe in alimony (although I most certainly was before “the working woman” was considered normal). As for child support, I believe in that (I may, at some point, argue that the law is imperfect, but I believe in the concept all the same). That said, child support is not contingent on marriage. I also feel that anyone should be able to insure their partners and Dependants, and that either the law should change, or the insurance companies should change the terms (this has already happened with some companies; I experienced this personally back in 2010.)
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 20:16
Not the only health issue, if unmarried the family of the sick person may block the partner from making medical decisions. I know they make make a will, but why should they have to do such a thing.
TuMadre, Ph.D June 26th, 2015 at 20:23
Actually, you don’t even need to make a will to sign over your power of attorney. I spoke with my family about my wants, in the event I ever became unable to vocalize such. They refused to acknowledge my decisions, so I signed my power of attorney over to a friend in the event I became incapacitated, and got it notorized with two witnesses. I tore it up when I became married, but there are completely free options out there for the people who can not afford it.
It was a document that a lawyer put up on the internet to limit it only to medical decisions in case of incapacitation, but there are as many options as there are ways to verbalize what you want.
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 20:26
Notarized with 2 witnesses, My HUBAND knows and no one may question him. Now everyone may have a spouse that has that right.
TuMadre, Ph.D June 26th, 2015 at 20:30
I edited my reply drastically. Sorry that it makes your response look out of place. It was not my intent to make you look foolish in any way, but rather because you got me thinking (which is always a good thing!).

Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 17:55
A baby can be happy and choose which ever gender that they prefer to play with, just like you.
But ……………. biologically, the process is pretty much set in stone.
.
Note a miracle that few comprehend: a women can have a child and still be a virgin.
Test tube babies.
Just in case a religious nut gives you a hard time, you tell them that the docs can enable more virgin births than all of the gods combined ever did.

Dwendt44 June 26th, 2015 at 18:20
Virgin can be defined as having the hymen intact. Harvesting those eggs would, by it very nature, breach the hymen. But of course, after ~25 or so, the hymen tends to disintegrate on its’ own.
What you meant to say was that you don’t have to have sexual intercourse to have a baby.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 18:28
A virgin, is a women untouched by a man but if you like the hymen maneuver, I can see your point.
Does that make you happy?
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:02
And now you’ve ruled out in vitro fertilization.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 19:06
No, I did not. I observed that opinion, and I am clearly aware that human beings have enabled more magical births, than all of the gods combined ever have.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:19
So accept evolution as including human intelligence, and whether it can have an effect.
We live or we die, it was or was not meant to be or not be.
Why are you worried about it?
It’s going to happen, one way or another, that we thrive or fail.;
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 19:32
Medical field is the knowledge evolving of the last 300 yrs and the population explosion to 8 billion is the result of that very process.
You were born, alive from the very copulation by your parents giving a single cell to combine with another, to become you. The life was alive prior to copulation but you didn’t retain that fact either, did you?
I am not worried about it.
I agree, truth will live, the rest ends up extinct, naturally of course, over time.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:35
Then let’s sit back and watch the world burn, or shine.
Quit worrying.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:36
Funny that you’d say that to me!
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:45
I’d say that to anyone.
Fatalism has its drawbacks, to be sure…but it tends to win out, in the end.

Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:16
Which is why I tend not to rely upon religion: sure, they’ve got historians (Jesuits…gotta love ’em), but they also had a say in what was written down as history.
These same guys also told of a man with a big boat who saved all the critters from drowning…
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 21:21
lots of big boats, lots of gods too.
but only 1 nature itself and we all live within
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:52
But we ARE nature…as much a part as we are a result.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 22:35
exactly and naturally, dead ends end up extinct
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 19:56

It is how the baby was conceived in about 99.99999999999999% of all child births ever!
tracey marie June 26th, 2015 at 20:23

Bishadi: “A baby can be happy and choose which ever gender that they prefer to play with, just like you.”
Now see, there you go, doing something you appeared to object to, above.
The fact that the term “marriage” has attained an expanded meaning seems to be something you object to, but here you are, using a word that has changed.
I remember a time when “gender” had nothing to do with human sexuality, but was a grammatical term. Some languages have words whose gender is masculine, feminine or neuter, and other languages have a dozen or more genders to various words.
So, just as you have gotten used to an expanded usage for “marriage,” you should have just as little trouble understanding that words like “marriage” and “gay” have attained additional meaning.
It would be “cool” if you can “dig” the point I was glad to “hip” you to.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:10
I am in awe of your rhetoric.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 21:11

and now to employ more attorneys and literally create a whole new business cue.
“Marry Me, for the Day” club. Think of vacation packages and catalogs of would be ‘couples’ for the day.
.
Could you imagine an exotic cruise for homosexual weddings? It would be a gas to see how many registered couples to be married actually leave the cruise with the person that they came with. The irony of that in itself would be a fantastic marketing venue.
.
Do you realize, you could actually create a business that any church could refer couples too that they choose not to accept. Both the churches and the couples could be paying you a fee.

Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:17
What’s the question?
Be fair.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 20:56
Here’s a few fair questions for you:
1) Should we have a society in which sexuality gives one person rights denied to someone else?
2) Should infertile people be allowed to marry? If one of them becomes infertile, should they be required to divorce?
3) Have you ever been married? Was it for one of the reasons you listed for marriage? I ask because the reasons everyone I know, gay and straight, who have married or want to get married has to do with love and the fulfillment of marrying the one they love. You don’t seem aware of this factor.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 21:15
1) … no. each can choose
2) … sure but i don’t see any reason for tax benefits unless additional mouths to feed.
last) …. honesty is how the lies end up extinct
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:29
This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME that I give someone the benfit of the doubt: they end up betraying themselves, and thus me.
POINT NUMBER ONE :Sexuality is NOT chosen…it has been proven time and again.
POINT NUMBER TWO: WHERE in the U.S. Constitution is procreation mentioned? NOWHERE!
POINT NUMBER THREE: WHAT THE F*CK DO YOU EVEN MEAN BY THAT?
Are you out of arguments? You. who was so erudite and open-minded up until now? THEN SAY SO!
Say “I cannot refute that, but I feel that it is wrong!”…nobody will actually fault you for it; they’ll just try and convince you. and if you do not want to be dissuaded, then LEAVE
But don’t waffle your stance into an inarguable corner because you don’t want to lose…
That’s just sad.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 22:43
I know, the gender is what a person is born with. Sex is the choice of the practitioner, in reality.
You cant make me lie to make you feel good about yourself.

I didn’t suggest a side.
I pointed out just how ignorant the divide is in the first place.
Dwendt44 June 26th, 2015 at 18:28
Marriage was around long before the ancient Hebrews started borrowing religious scribblings from other older religions.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 18:33
Hebrew is from akkadian
Just as commandments are from Egypt, no matter how you dice it.
Marriage and the lineage aspect of commitment existed well before the Abrahamic sect by a long shot
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 20:43

Dwendt44 June 26th, 2015 at 18:34
Marriage, European heritage style, was about property, wealth, power and politics.
An ally would cement that alliance by marrying off (sell) a daughter (princess) to the other party. Then the two dynasties would be ‘kin’. Didn’t matter much if the prince or the princess was faithful. Though the women was generally the guilty party of any extra marital dilly dally. thus the ‘House of Windsor’, the royal family of England, is German via the family tree.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 18:39
Ah…. the marriage was about lineage (kin).
Just as I claimed.
The life living into the next generations, is what procreation is about. Not religion, not law, not belief, not even a suggestion but a fact of life, naturally of course.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:00
But, countless civilizations (The Japanese come immediately to mind) have accepted that adoption is included in lineage.
Otherwise, one sterile mule would ruin the entire bloodline.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 19:03
Anyone can accept a doctrine. Look at what happened to the west with torah/bible/quran.
.
But when it comes to biological facts of life, there is no where to run and no where to hide; the truth is about as absolute as it gets.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:09
Then let it happen, and accept that this is the way humanity chooses to go.
Really, whether you believe that God gave us free will, or that we’re just a bunch of animals that somehow made it big, the end result is the same: we survive, or we do not.
(But our way doesn’t foist the blame on some bearded sky-being; it accepts that if a mistake was made, WE made it. Plus, we have cookies!)

You do not represent humanity.
People will survive and them that don’t procreate wont be here to worry about it.
.
I have no doubt what so ever that the losers are the self centered.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:21
What about the bloodlines I choose to support?
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 19:29
Ah … the next layer.
Giving of self to combine with other lives, is how to live forever.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:30
My name will never enter into it. Where’s my stake? Self love? That dies with me. Try again.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 19:34
Your name is not the importance. It is what you do, that is important.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:37
I’m alive because hundreds of years ago, some guy decided to fight, instead of running.
Or he decided to run, instead of fighting.
Either way, who he was, and why he did what he did, is lost to time.
What’s your point?

That our lineage did well over the life of existence, for any one of us to be here because if ever there was a break in that chain, ya wouldn’t be here.
.
Now do you comprehend what ‘honor thy ma and pa’ is about? They are us and we are them. There is no greater a vesting as it is life and death, the decisions we make for that living process, right now. Look at your hands and remember the gazillions of cells counting on you and that whole chain has been evolving since day one, to be here now.
I kind of like you, but you don’t know much about yourself, just yet.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:53
But you’re limiting it to what you “know”( can’t fault that, really, but can’t accept it as the only way, either): that a man and a woman should join, and produce a child, and that child will follow suit, etc., etc., world without end.
Ever heard of a creche?”
“Droit du seigneur”?
At times, these were perfectly acceptable ways to continue man’s survival.
Who’s to say that it won’t change again?
(Not that you can’t fight it; change isn’t always inevitable, but who’s also to say that your way is the best way, for the times?)
{PS: cricket post deleted, as you did answer.}
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 21:19
No limit on my part. Just the basic facts so anyone can see there are no limits on themselves either.
.
The joining/copulation/sex…………………. of man and women, is how you exist. Kind of unquestionable, and you KNOW it too.
.
I have no doubt, the ‘change’ will come, because instinctively every life wants to continue.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:31
And then, in-vitro fertilization reared its ugly head….
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 19:26
To clear that last post up, my friend overseas has a daughter…my sending money to them helps them, and raises the chance that said child will thrive.
Where’s the biology in that?
(No, not my kid, either.)
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:11
Giving of resource for a life to continue.
Is ‘good’.
That is what charity is all about. If you can, then please and thank you for assisting ‘life to continue’.
.
Of Nature; you are a living process, capable of using your self, your life, your energy to combine with others, rise and live longer. Whether you assist a child in tying their shoes and keep them from falling on their face, if he/she teaches another, you are not in the generations by a cause of your actions. The good, live, the other (loss to the common) ends up fading (extinction).
No magic, nothing super natural, no outside interference……………… but by you choice to ‘give of self for life to continue’. Measure any action the rest of your life and tell me, can see and realize the actuality of it being true absolute.
.
If i told you that i was the guy with ‘ha shem’, would it mean anything to you?
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:27
No, sorry, it would not. Not that religion means much to me, beyond how I approach a person.
But whether you like it or not, you’re a “liberal”, as defined by current archetypes; you look to the future, for the sake of the future. Relying on what has gone before isn’t something I’ll fault a person for…who knows? It might work! But be prepared to change your outlook; the world constantly changes, and if you cannot keep up, you’re doomed.
Like many of today’s “conservatives”.
Society changes quickly…it doesn’t need a helping hand; it adapts to its situation. And it either works, or does not.
All one can do is to be the best person one can, and in that way influence others to take the path one believes is the correct one; forcing a square peg into a round hole won’t work, but convincing the hole to adapt…ah, there’s the key.
Not much more could be asked of a person who hopes for the best for humanity.,
Good luck;I hope we win.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 20:41
WHAT?
You got “ha shem”?
Penicillin will clear that up for you. Until you go through a whole script and are pronounced cured by a doctor, you’ll have to have protected sex, sorry.

burqa June 26th, 2015 at 22:41
We find the same thing in non-Western societies in history.
While it is and has been those things for some through history, in my opinion, the majority of marriages have been about 2 people loving each other.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 20:27
If you’re going to be honest, one place to start is by recognizing the very nature of language is for words to change in their meanings, and to gain new meanings as time goes on.
It would be “cool” if you can “dig” that.
We should not hide behind some phony pretended shock that a word has gained a new meaning in order to oppose an issue. That isn’t honest and I can see how important honesty is to you.
In the 60s, the Supreme Court ruled in Loving v. Virginia that:
“The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.”
In that decision, the Supreme Court did not rule that this right was only held by heterosexuals. So if you’re looking for a way to oppose giving gays marriage equality, this issue needs to be addressed.
Secondly, I think your history is incomplete. Ever do any serious genealogical work on your own lineage?
Unless you can tie into someone in a major royal family whose records are accurate and survive, you’ll end up being like most people and not be able to go back further than roughly 1,000 A.D. because previous to then, people went by one name and had no lineage to protect.
Yes, people married intending to procreate, but let’s not pretend that is the only reason many people have gotten married.
In the past, people married for all kinds of reasons, some of which we regard as stupid today, such as pawning off a daughter to cement a political or business alliance. We should have no problem leaving such things in our wake.
I think for the vast majority through history it has been because they loved someone and wanted a monogamous relationship.
This is a worthy reason to marry and applies to gays and straights.
And, uh, while we’re being honest, let’s not omit the fact that with marriage comes all sorts of issues like tax breaks, inheritance rights, adoption and other family issues.
Wouldn’t you agree that we should not have a society where rights are not shared equally by all, but a society in which some have more rights than others because of the sex of the person they love.
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 20:30
Sometimes I wonder about you…and then you post some magic like this.
Bishadi June 26th, 2015 at 20:45
The world does evolve as new meaning unfolds reality. For example: no god was moving the sun across the sky, the earth was spinning. You may not like the change, but love the law, right?
.
Look up Ella Bacon (book of bacon) and go back to the king of turkey if you like.
.
Even if you don’t have a lineage, every life here has lineage to ‘them days’ and likewise, each must have done real good to still be here with us all.
Note the evolution: You can now also walk on water and know it.
.
.Just freeze it first.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 21:54
Typically, the form in a conversation is for one person to make points, another person to respond to them, and for the first person to reply to those responses.
Rather than post all this nonsense that only you understand, how about responding directly to points being made in response?
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 21:58
I believe this particular poster has…shall we say “gone off the deep end”?
(s)he’s becoming more and more incoherent, despite showing some promise at the beginning.
( I drink, too, so I’m not one to judge…)
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 22:12
I think you’re right, though I’m not so sure it is because of drinking or some other foreign substance.
I’m sorry I wasn’t here for the beginning, but still, I can see the descent into incoherence.
It seems to have begun with an attempt to sound “academic”, using words and phrasing that are atypical of how this person ordinarily speaks. But some sort of camouflage is needed, because to just plainly speak his opinion using simple, declarative sentences just wouldn’t work.
Seeing this spiral into gobbledygook brings to mind my favorite political quote of the last 30 years or so, in which we see a similar spiral:
“And the other thing, and I guess – is that I expect it’s difficult for somebody working in a plant here in New Hampshire to wonder, to know if the president really cares about what’s happening in the economy. And I think I know this state. I went to school a thousand years ago across the border and – would go up every summer of my life, except 1944, to Maine, spending a fair amount of time.
Almost – you could see it, practically, coming in on the plane. So when you get clobbered on the seacoast by a storm, I get clobbered by a seacoast on the storm. It goes further than that. When you get hurting because you worry whether you’re going to have a job or you get thrown out, I do care about it, and I just wanted to say that.”
– George H.W. Bush, speaking at a Davidson Textron Plant, Dover, New Hampshire, January 15, 1992
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 22:17

And right-wing republicans, who are so fond of lecturing everybody about the “lessons of history,” will continue to ignore that foremost lesson of history, namely that people get old and die and young people come along who have their own ideas about how things should be, and thus the world changes.
And this week it changed a whole fuckload of good.
mcalleyboy June 26th, 2015 at 23:06
Your fearing the wrong group, aren’t you worried about Islamists or Muslims? Or do you feel like holding hands at the Mosque, just wondering how silly you want to go with this, hey I’m for Muslim refugee’s now..LOL.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 23:49
This is about the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage.
Got anything, other than being a sore loser trying to change the subject and pick on another minority group?
Anyone else notice this?
Many conservatives shrink from picking on someone their own size. It’s always a little minority group with little political power. Conservatives push them around and speak disdainfully of them until the rest of us get sick of seeing the conservatives bully the weak and we take up for them, and proceed to whip right-wing butt.
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:57
I’m for gay marriage and while I was in the Navy (retired now) I was for gay soldiers, I witnessed many getting kicked and most of these individuals were senior enlisted dating junior military members, they had a spat and the junior gay person told on the senior gay partner, happened to a female co-worker that had 10 years in, now what does she do.
dave-dr-gonzo June 27th, 2015 at 12:07
Dumbass, I am more worried about white, putatively Christian extremists.
——
White Americans are the biggest terror threat in the United States
Peter Gelling, GlobalPost
http://www.globalpost.com/article/6592741/2015/06/24/white-americans-are-biggest-terror-threat-united-states
White Americans are the biggest terror threat in the United States, according to a study by the New America Foundation. The Washington-based research organization did a review of “terror” attacks on US soil since Sept. 11, 2001 and found that most of them were carried out by radical anti-government groups or white supremacists.
Almost twice as many people have died in attacks by right-wing groups in America than have died in attacks by Muslim extremists. Of the 26 attacks since 9/11 that the group defined as terror, 19 were carried out by non-Muslims. Yet there are no white Americans languishing inside the prison camp at Guantanamo Bay. And there are no drones dropping bombs on gatherings of military-age males in the country’s lawless border regions.
Attacks by right-wing groups get comparatively little coverage in the news media. Most people will struggle to remember the shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin that killed six people in 2012. A man who associated with neo-Nazi groups carried out that shooting. There was also the married couple in Las Vegas who walked into a pizza shop and murdered two police officers. They left a swastika on one of the bodies before killing a third person in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Such attacks are not limited to one part of the country. In 2011, two white supremacists went on a shooting spree in the Pacific Northwest, killing four people.
Terrorism is hard to define. But here is its basic meaning: ideological violence. In its study, the New America Foundation took a narrow view of what could be considered a terror attack. Most mass shootings, for instance, like Sandy Hook or the Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting — both in 2012 — weren’t included. Also not included was the killing of three Muslim students in North Carolina earlier this year. The shooter was a neighbor and had strong opinions about religion. But he also had strong opinions about parking spaces and a history of anger issues. So that shooting was left off the list.
The killing of nine people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina last week was included. The shooter made it clear that his motivation was an ideological belief that white people are superior to black people. The shooting has cast new light on the issue of right-wing terrorism in the United States. But since it can’t really use Special Forces or Predator drones on US soil, it remains unclear how the government will respond.
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:43
So how do you protect yourself, just curious, do you complain, cry and shout your thoughts out… example a recent Facebook post shows a gay man standing in a public parking lot where the security guard was killed and proclaiming “F” you terrorists…LOL and such a stance…Oh boy and no weapon, is he gonna call 911 are you gonna call 911, remember law enforcement is a Liberal enemy.

The issue has not been resolved completely.
This will not come until we get to the point where conservatives claim they have been for gay rights all along and that this decision came from a conservative-leaning court and therefore gay equality in marriage is a right earned through the efforts of conservatives.
Don’t laugh, some of them have employed similar thinking and are trying to take credit for civil rights…..

One thing is for sure you’d better start blocking Muslims from the US or you guys and girls will be thrown off buildings, oh wait, what kind of talk is that, America has always accepted the weary masses so what difference does that make, your generalizing… lets see how that all works out for you.
burqa June 26th, 2015 at 23:44
First, thanks for the entertainment – generalizing about Muslims and then expressing disdain for those who generalize.
Several times a year I visit the national cemeteries at Quantico and Arlington and see Muslim symbols on headstones at each. Those marvelous veterans were too busy fighting for our freedoms to throw any Americans off buildings.
I know Muslims here who are fantastic citizens. They are very moral, decent people. They have a nice business in which they help quite a few non-Muslim people in lower income groups. Their manners are excellent and their children don’t run in stores.
The fight against Islamist extremism is not going to end any time soon. To be successful in an unconventional conflict such as this, we will desperately need agents to penetrate groups like the Islamic State to learn their plans, intentions, capabilities and weaknesses. We will need to recruit from those fluent in the culture and language and were we to pass laws such as banning Muslims, it will be much more difficult to recruit the sort of agents I described.
Next time your side loses, try being more gracious….
Dwendt44 June 27th, 2015 at 00:31
It’s not MUSLIMS, it’s extremists, no matter what type. Muslim extremists, christian extremists, what ever, that’s the danger. The majority of Muslims are good citizens and are not a danger to anyone.
We’ve had more killing and more damage and more danger from christian extremists than Muslim extremists in this country.
Not that facts enter into conservative thinking.
burqa June 27th, 2015 at 16:27
Excellent point. It’s one I have been trying to make for quite some time now. As I keep saying, characteristics of human nature span the artificial divisions we place among people.
Extremists may be found among Muslims, Christians, atheists, fascist, Southerners, Northerners, or urban or rural populations.
While we may find those who do bad among all these groups, so too do we find many among all of them who do good or at least don’t go around looking for trouble.
I have been arguing for a sense of perspective, and have done so when defending the majority of Muslims, Christians, Jews, Southerners and whoever else I see being referred to by crude stereotypes that are a mark of weak, lazy thinking.
As I have posted before, I happen to occasionally socialize with leading Republicans in my state. So not only have I seen the way the growth of the Tea Party has harmed my state by shoving a stick in the spokes of government, they have likewise turned into a powerful force within the GOP. They tried to feed the alligator, but it didn’t work. The Tea Party used the rules to their advantage and took control of all but one local GOP party. They got to where they were looking at forming a third party.
What I see developing and what I fear is the rise of our own Tea Party on the Left that is just as intolerant, undemocratic and just as hell-bent on pushing the party to the extreme Left and further ever after.
Right now the reaction I see to them is to be glad for their numbers, and perhaps the hope they can be contained. In other words, many of us on the Left are trying to feed the alligator, just as the Republicans did.
The Republicans, too late, figured out they should have confronted the Tea Party early on and incurred their enmity when they were still weak in order to keep them on the fringe with little political influence.
We on the Left should not copy a losing example, but should learn from the mistakes the GOP made with the Tea Party, otherwise in years to come we’ll be held hostage by extremists the same way the Right is now.
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:39
Keep sleeping until one day you wake up and figure out that generalizing could have saved your life. Muslims are very peaceful and they don’t like to fight they also don’t like to tell on their brother’s and sister’s so the Islamists can conquer vast area’s in a short time and enforce Sharia law, my God wake up, look what’s happening in Britain and France.
whatthe46 June 28th, 2015 at 23:57

You may as well get used to losing on these issues. Such is the lot of the conservative. They can not stop progress, only slow it down.
From the American Revolution, when they took the side that came in second place, conservatives have been losing on these issues.
Conservatives lost on the slavery issue.
Conservatives lost when they tried to prevent women from getting the vote.
Conservatives lost when they opposed the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain.
Conservatives lost on civil rights.
Conservatives lost on affirmative action, which integrated our society.
Conservatives lost when it came to women’s liberation.
And now conservatives have lost their fight to prevent gays from having the same rights heterosexuals do.
You can even go back further to the Magna Carta – another conservative defeat, and work forward from there. To be a conservative is to fight one losing battle after the other. Conservatives go from defeat to defeat whereas liberals go from victory to victory.
You picked a losing ideology, that’s all.
The good news is this is America where you can change your mind and go with a winner!
mcalleyboy June 27th, 2015 at 02:06
Slavery issue, the President that free’d the slaves was a Republican “Abraham Lincoln”. Affirmative action and yet nobody has time to take care of their children both Mom and Dad working, in order to make ends meet to pay the national debt, military men of color advance while white men and women don’t . Womens rights… that’s not a conservative issue it was a man vs women issue.
Losing only if you accept defeat. Noticed you didn’t address the Muslim issue, good luck tackling that one, have you seen and heard some of the interviews about our freedoms from a Muslim immigrant, refugee stand point, you should check out what they think of the West, many would also like to return to their homelands or make America their new homeland… well as long as sharia law is incorporated into the laws…Ooops! for the gays.
jasperjava June 27th, 2015 at 02:39
Slavery issue, the President that free’d the slaves was a Republican “Abraham Lincoln”.
If you knew anything about history, you would know that the Republicans of the 1860s were the liberals, and the Democrats were the conservatives.
The abolition of slavery was a liberal achievement. Conservatives, of course, wanted to preserve the status quo. That’s what conservatism is all about. Conservatives wanted to preserve the privileges of the wealthy and powerful, just as they do today. The only difference is that conservatives back then called themselves Democrats, and liberals called themselves Republicans. This lasted until Taft: Theodore Roosevelt was a progressive who enacted laws to protect workers and the environment. He was the last liberal Republican president. When he split from the party because of Taft’s pro-big-business agenda, he eventually drew a lot of liberal Republicans to join in a big-tent coalition with the Democratic Party under the New Deal.
In the meantime, the conservative Southern Democrats stayed in the Democratic Party for a long time, and their populist tradition could be reconciled with Northern liberalism under the New deal. Eventually this alliance began to crack, as the Democratic Party took more and more liberal positions on civil rights. Eventually the Southern Dixiecrats abandoned the Democrats and joined with the Republicans, who exploited their Southern Strategy to lure them under their fold.
The Democrats got rid of their racist garbage, and the Republicans gobbled it up. That’s why the conservative racists in the Southern States used to be solidly Democratic, and are now almost all Republican.
mcalleyboy June 27th, 2015 at 20:36
It’s all about Liberalism.
William June 27th, 2015 at 09:38
Conservatives “values” of shoving religion down the throats of America is actually the closest thing to Sharia law we have. Fortunately, America has stopped taking them seriously.
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 02:47
Religion is private and I agree with separating Church from State, I would never push religion on anyone.
dave-dr-gonzo June 27th, 2015 at 12:01
“Slavery issue, the President that free’d [sic] the slaves was a Republican “Abraham Lincoln.”
First, there is no apostriphe in “freed.” Please learn American English!
And your point is, frankly, stupid: Abe Lincoln would have been a Democrat in the modern world, given his opposition to so-called “states’ rights,” his support for expansion of government in the interest of citizens, his liberal view on what is now called the “living Constitution”, his policy of establishment and expansion of infrastructure (his push for rail development), and his liberal use of executive power to expand the rights of citizens.
So suck it, teabagger.
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:32
I’m not a teabagger and until they get their act together. Watch the latest Lincoln movie and it details how Lincoln waited for the right moment and documented who owns what and then you’ll find he was way more Conservative then you think, he was a lawyer..Hello!
burqa June 27th, 2015 at 16:06
Slavery – Read your history – when Lincoln was elected the Republican Party was on the Left of the political spectrum, with an extreme Left wing known as the Radical Republicans. Their opposition were the conservative-dominated Democrats.
(And Lincoln’s name does not go in quotation marks any more than “freed” does not take an apostrophe before the ‘d.’
I see you have learned the GOP-Conservative Two-Step,” in which one hops from one to the other, depending on which is more convenient. To do the G-C T-S, one must forget about having any consistency, “core values” or “first principles” because having them will prevent you from bouncing back and forth from being liberal-minded to being conservative-minded.
Affirmative action was how we integrated our society and had nothing to do with economics, sorry. If you wish to engage separately on that issue, I’ll be happy to post the official stats that show the economy performs much better when the economic policy of a Democratic Party president is in office compared to when a Republican is in there.(Expect your concern for the national debt and deficits to disappear during that discussion.)
Your claims about military promotions fail miserably when we look at the racial breakdown of the military and compare with the racial breakdown of the senior officer corps.
You are wrong on women’s liberation – it was a major issue – I was there and remember it very well. The Left pressed to break glass ceilings and other impediments to women being able to participate more fully in society and the overwhelming majority of the opposition came from conservatives.
Losing – yes, conservatives lost on all the issues I mentioned. You don’t seem to understand what a conservative is. In the first issue of the National Review, the godfather of modern American conservatism, William F. Buckley defined conservatism as “Standing athwart history shouting ‘Stop!'”
The part he left out is history keeps running you guys over.
Muslims – yes, I did address it, below, about 8 posts or so.
I have no fear of sharia law here. After all, the rest of us outnumber them 315 million to 2 million.
You be afraid all you want, but just as in the Civil War, World War I and World War II, the liberals will lead the country to victory, unlike that string of ties and losses we have had under GOP leadership.
William June 27th, 2015 at 08:31
Sharia law rights extended and in full force America like Britain,
How about a link Goofus?
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:28
Here take a look and please apologize for your lack of knowledge.

William June 29th, 2015 at 01:34
A YouTube video is no more proof of Sharia law than a Spiderman movie is proof of radioactive spiders. Try again dumbass.
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 02:45
You’re gonna let these guys slowly change laws, bring more family members form a Muslim nation and take you over? Just curious, this isn’t the only video posted from Britain on this issue, your okay with Muslims coming into your country and asking you to respect their customs and while your in their country asking you to obey their customs and now they’re promoting their culture onto ours? What a softy, sorry but you don’t sound retired military, you do at least 20 years, you don’t have to answer but you don’t sound right in the head to me.
William June 29th, 2015 at 10:48
…and how does one “sound” like retired military? I did twenty years, six months and 13 days. Then I did another 16 years wearing a badge and a gun. I will happily compare DD-214’s with you any time.
Here’s the thing dumpling.
If you run around in circles frothing at the mouth, terrified of a religion, you are pretty much “not right in the head”.
“they’re promoting their culture onto ours?” Define “ours”
Our culture is a mix of many cultures. We are a melting pot. I’m sorry you missed that in civics class. I am also sorry, but not surprised that you don’t understand that we are a nation made up of many cultures.
Ok, you hate Muslims, I get that.
The good news is that you are insignificant. Just another Beck-bred paranoid nut job with absolutely no input.
You should probably move into a cave where you can be safe from *gasp* British Muslims.
The other good news as that due to a screening process I was spared from having to serve next to chickensh!t cowards like you.
Stop by the History department and learn about America and religious tolerance.
While you’re at it, swing by the English department and learn the difference between your, and you’re.
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 20:49
Thanks for the Grammar lesson had to look that up, another forum member got me for apostrophes bookmarked both spots.
You need to stop living or dwelling in the past and concentrate on what’s happening now. If your claim is that America is made up of Immigrants I’ll be many of them came after slavery and Indians even though there’s proof Kennewick man was here before the American Indian and massacred Kennewick man, you give an indian a dollar so he can buy his booze, pot and live rent free..Lol.
So do you carry concealed? Did you get stuck living in San Dog, if so my condolences on your pension and hard work.
William June 29th, 2015 at 21:21
Seriously? What in the actual f^ck are you talking about?

dave-dr-gonzo June 27th, 2015 at 11:55
If by “Sharia law”, you mean systematically stripping women of reproductive rights, you possibly maybe just might have a little bit of a point.
Oh, wait – that’s the Xtian Dominionists suppressing freedom, not the Shi’ites, Sunnis, or Wahabis.
If anything, Americans should be worried about the imposition of unenlightened, un-American Christian “Sharia”.
In other words, you’re just pushing another “scare the rubes” trope and are, pardon the pun, so full of Shi’ite that it’s coming out of your ears. Like most teawingers, all you have added to this thread is a waft of anti-intellectual flatulence, lacking meaning and truth.
mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:21
I recommend you volunteer yourself duties in the Middle East, I feel the ISIS will agree with you, Lol.
Tim Coolio June 26th, 2015 at 22:14
Nice to see rightwing heads exploding.
Tim Coolio June 26th, 2015 at 22:15
Take note Americans, this is a taste of what it’s
like having a Liberal Supreme Court! you don’t want
to give the GOP more power and have them swing the
court more to the hard right for the rest of your lives!
Hirightnow June 26th, 2015 at 22:18
And…?
Talkin_Truth June 26th, 2015 at 22:54
If you think this Supreme Court is liberal, you are out of your mind.
anothertoothpick June 27th, 2015 at 07:17
Liberal supreme court means freedom
Chinese Democracy June 27th, 2015 at 01:08

mcalleyboy June 28th, 2015 at 23:58
It’s truth right? And retards are now mentally challenged, would this be considered Progressive or Liberals’ playing with words.
whatthe46 June 29th, 2015 at 00:02
i was asking you if you were fk’n stupid.
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 02:28
LOL… I retired with pension at 41, I’d say that makes me an Einstein but I have my flaws, I don’t think anyone on this forum is perfect.
whatthe46 June 29th, 2015 at 02:53
retiring at 41 doesn’t make you an Einstein, but, it does mean you did well to get where you are. i won’t take that away from you. gun control is a start, with regards to massacres. don’t you agree?
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 03:24
I grew up as a teen in the 70’s and gun control was in full effect, very few people had guns other than the criminals, it spawned many vigilante movies, such as Dirty Harry, Charles Bronson and for a reason, lax rules on criminals and tough gun laws.
I feel that gun control will not work, it’s best to protect your family and self from what may or may not happen, accidents will happen and do happen the mentally ill or sick, more like it will do their dirty deeds, we must be vigilant, knowledgeable and train with our weapons, keep them out of touch from kids, idiots (impossible) but the other option is a gun free zone and a lopsided battle, that doesn’t work for me.
tracey marie June 29th, 2015 at 07:20

tracey marie June 29th, 2015 at 07:19
get some branches on that family tree.
amongoose June 28th, 2015 at 16:02
Question.
Now that the right to be married has been affirmed by the supreme court as a right that all states have to accept does it not also mean that other rights, as in the 2nd amendment and CCW’s issued in other states must be honored by all states?
Rights are rights, none more important than another.
mcalleyboy June 29th, 2015 at 02:35
Massacres happen they’ve been happening so there’s no stopping them but what I want to know is what precautions do you take when out in public?
