Robert Reich: Bill’s Speech Fees Could Hurt Hillary; Lincoln Bedroom ‘Almost Rented’

Posted by | June 18, 2015 12:00 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews

Former Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich told me Hillary Clinton could be damaged by the former president’s speaking fees.

COLMES: You wrote a blog post about anticipatory bribery. Is Hillary Clinton guilty of that, given there may have been some conflation between the Clinton Foundation and her job as Secretary of State?

REICH: Well as I said in that blog post she’s got to be very, very careful. She’s got to disclose everything. I think it’s bad idea for her husband, who I worked for in the 1990’s, Bill Clinton, to continue to rake in big bucks for big speeches. I also think it’s bad for any Republican to take in a lot of personal money from any individual donor, because it does create the impression of corruption. It gives the impression that there’s going to be a quid pro quo.

COLMES: Does she have to get up and address these issues and answer questions about it?

REICH: I think she does. Again, the standard of proof that she’s going to have to be under is even greater than the standard of most other candidates because Bill Clinton did have a record of almost renting the Lincoln Bedroom, and what you’ve got to do and what they have to do, they’ve got to be so clear with the public about what the money is, where it comes from, where it’s going, and make absolutely clear, crystal clear that there’s nothing to hide. Otherwise she’s going to be attacked continuously.

I seen an interview with President Clinton and he was asked if he would quit doing his speeches if and when his wife is elected and he said yes. There is only a problem if you don’t listen to facts and create your own answers instead.

Where did you get that? From Wiki: “He served in the administrations of Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter and was Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997.” Maybe you should do a little of the “read and research” suggested by your avatar.
