Pamela Geller Continues Muslim-Bashing

She’s now launched a billboard campaign to spread her Islamophobia.

AFDI President Pamela Geller said in a statement: “Because the media and the cultural and political elites continue to self-enforce the Sharia without the consent of the American people by refusing to show any depictions of Muhammad or showing what it was in Texas that had jihadists opening fire, we are running a billboard ad featuring the winning cartoon by former Muslim Bosch Fawstin from our Muhammad Art Exhibit and Cartoon Contest in Garland, Texas.”

The new free speech campaign went up on 100 billboards today in St. Louis.

Try and put a billboard up making fun of Jesus.

    • allison1050 June 8th, 2015 at 20:03

I can only hope that someone with enough money does it.

      • whatthe46 June 8th, 2015 at 20:14

i thought the very same. and i don’t want it to be from a muslim.

      • Talkin_Truth June 8th, 2015 at 23:08

I’m a devout Christian and I would defend the right of someone to put up an anti-Christian billboard.

But, like Pamela Geller, The Westboro Baptist Church, or Charlie Hebdo, I don’t support this kind of disrespectful speech. The world needs less of it, not more.

        • allison1050 June 8th, 2015 at 23:46

          You’re entitled to your belief.

          • Talkin_Truth June 9th, 2015 at 00:45

You think the world needs more disrespectful speech? Really?

    • Robert M. Snyder June 8th, 2015 at 21:26

It’s already been done, and nobody got beheaded.

      • Talkin_Truth June 8th, 2015 at 23:10

Do you know what they mean by 30,000+ versions of the truth? Are they talking about ancient manuscripts of the Bible?

        • Robert M. Snyder June 8th, 2015 at 23:44

According to this website, some Catholics claim that there are 30,000 Protestant denominations:

          http://www.gotquestions.org/Protestant-denominations.html

          • Talkin_Truth June 9th, 2015 at 00:43

That seems high but there are a couple billion Christians, so its possible.

But, not all of us think we have the exclusive truth.

It’s ironic, but I think I’m more open minded than many of my atheist friends. They think all religious people are wrong and only atheists are right. I believe that lots of people, including atheists, have some understanding of the truth I can learn from.

            • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2015 at 01:06

In some ways, religion and science may be converging. In recent years a number of people have begun to seriously study the phenomenon of consciousness. In this Ted Talk, David Chalmers discusses the possibility that consciousness may be a fundamental property of the universe, much like gravity and mass, and that consciousness exists to some degree in all things. It’s something that ancient religions contemplated ages ago. Now it seems that reputable scientists are beginning to take the idea seriously.

I don’t necessarily subscribe to the idea, but it seems at least plausible that if we increase our understanding of consciousness, we might actually discover that consciousness is not strictly contained within the brain, and perhaps not even within the body. And at that point, we’d be approaching a scientific basis for spirituality.

Was it in the deep south? And no one has been beheaded over these billboards but Christians in America do like shooting doctors in church.

and at home and at clinics. They also like using fire bombs to kill and maim.

Atheist Billboard in Alabama Gets Taken Down Two Weeks Early Following Complaints from Local Residents

        http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2015/01/30/atheist-billboard-in-alabama-gets-taken-down-two-weeks-early-following-complaints-from-local-residents/

        • Robert M. Snyder June 9th, 2015 at 09:19

Okay, so what are you saying? Did the local residents have a right to complain and get the anti-Christian signs taken down? Or do the atheists have a right to criticize Christianity in this way? Because if the atheists have that right, then so does Pan Geller. And if these billboards make Pam Geller a hate monger, then those atheists were hate mongers as well.

I do not like to see flag burning or billboards mocking any religion. But if the first amendment means anything, then the anti-Christian and anti-Muslim billboards should be permitted. The first amendment also protects criticism of those billboards and the people who create them. It’s fine to criticize Pam Geller and it is equally fine to criticize atheists. However, if you want your criticism of Pam Geller to be taken seriously, then you need to be consistent. If you approve of the atheist signs but disapprove of Pam Geller’s signs, then you are applying a double standard.

        This what you were envisioning?

  5. Talkin_Truth June 8th, 2015 at 23:12

Does Pamela Geller think we don’t have free speech in America? She can and does say whatever offensive and stupid thing she wants.

  6. Kick Frenzy June 9th, 2015 at 00:27

She’s vile and I can’t stand her or the company she keeps/runs, but I think she missed the mark this time.

The cartoon is fine by me and makes a salient point about free speech.
I know it’s meant to incite hatred and bigotry, but this time… it really doesn’t.
At least, when you don’t consider the big ol’ AFDI symbol up there.

If I didn’t know what the AFDI was and saw this while driving down the road, I’d probably be supportive of the message.
Basically, what we’re seeing is something akin to what Hebdo was doing… so I can’t really get too upset at the billboard.
(Although, I’m still wholeheartedly against the intent behind it.)

    • fahvel June 9th, 2015 at 02:24

rien a faire avec Charlie – when you don’t know what your talking about, be quiet – hebdo is and was an intellectual level of satire leaving no one alone if they merited/merit ridicule or criticism – gellar is a thing filled with hate and ignorance, that wonderful new thing america is offering the world – keep it!!!!

      • Kick Frenzy June 9th, 2015 at 02:32

Please read what I said again.

I didn’t say Gellar is equal to hebdo, I said the cartoon on the billboard is.

If you disagree with me, then YOU don’t know what you’re talking about.
(Or don’t understand what I’m saying.)

Wonder how much they’d get for her for a hareem sale?

    • tracey marie June 9th, 2015 at 10:52

Hareem, she is a scullery maid at best

  8. illinoisboy1977 June 9th, 2015 at 10:27

While I don’t agree with her take on all of Islam, there are those factions that pervert the faith to suit their own murderous desires. There are also those, within the mainstream of the religion, who think it’s alright to visit injury on those who insult “the Prophet”. While her methods may be crude and offensive, I still defend her right to employ them and condemn anyone who would resort to violence, in response to mere words, writings and drawings.

    • arc99 June 9th, 2015 at 11:19

yes she has the right to her crude offensive methods, just as “pro life” zealots have the first amendment right to justify murders at family planning clinics.

and that gets to the heart of the matter for me. we do not have the right to characterize an entire religion based on the acts of a murderous few. somehow that simple concept of fairness gets lost when we talk about Muslims.

      • illinoisboy1977 June 9th, 2015 at 11:39

Actually, you do have the LEGAL right to characterize ANYTHING, based on little to no information. It’s an ignorant and ill-advised thing to do, but you technically DO have the right.

        • arc99 June 9th, 2015 at 12:02

well yes.. by the same token I have the LEGAL right to fart in a crowded elevator.

whether or not I should make a point of doing so is an entirely different matter. that is my point.

    • BillTheCat45 June 9th, 2015 at 12:03

Yes, shouting “FIRE!!” in a movie theater when there is none is TOTALLY all right. Thanks for letting us know.

      • illinoisboy1977 June 9th, 2015 at 15:45

Shouting “Fire” in a crowded theater is designed to incite panic and cause harm. Expressing an opinion is not the same thing as that. If it has a similar effect, due to violent protest, the fault is not that of the person expressing the opinion, but of the people who are not civilized enough to refrain from committing unjustified acts of violence.

        • BillTheCat45 June 9th, 2015 at 16:13

Yeh, putting images in people’s faces that everyone knows will enrage emotions is the same. Period. But feel free to continue defending that shrill harpy human garbage pail that is Geller.

          • illinoisboy1977 June 9th, 2015 at 16:20

No, it’s not the same. The responsibility for perpetrated acts of violence is solely on the people who commit the acts. Regardless of what offensive material angered them, it didn’t FORCE them to commit violence. They make a conscious CHOICE to commit violence, even though they know it’s not socially acceptable. They have the option to behave in a civilized manner, but choose not to.
I don’t defend her character. I defend her freedom of expression and differentiate between a causative factor, and a mere excuse.

            • BillTheCat45 June 10th, 2015 at 15:51

Nope. Sorry bigot apologist, rational people know you are full of crap.

              • illinoisboy1977 June 10th, 2015 at 15:53

So, it’s “full of crap” to hold people responsible for their own actions? Wow, I guess I’m full of crap, then. You go ahead and keep excusing murder and violence as being the fault of people who do nothing more than speak, write and draw.

                • BillTheCat45 June 10th, 2015 at 18:03

Ywes, we hold Pamela Geller responsible, as do most sane folk.

                  • illinoisboy1977 June 11th, 2015 at 15:28

So, she psychically FORCED them to commit violence? They had no conscious control over their actions, as if she had some kind of remote control from hell, overriding their ability to choose another course of action? Thanks for clearing that up!

                    • BillTheCat45 June 12th, 2015 at 11:11

Sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself. I’ll stick with the rational people.

                    • illinoisboy1977 June 12th, 2015 at 13:22

No, I’m just trying to figure out how SHE was culpable for the actions of another, separate, self-aware human being. She MUST have been practicing some kind of mind control, if the perpetrators had no control over their own actions…

  9. robert June 9th, 2015 at 15:56

i somewhat agree with the cartoonist

    you can draw evil

  10. johnnybizzoy June 10th, 2015 at 03:11

I like that cartoon. We have different values in the West, and most of the rest of the world has adopted those values because they are the best values for any society. Islam is just going to have to grow up and deal with our free speech.
