White House Salutes ‘Tremendous Courage’ of Republican Caitlyn Jenner
A star was reborn Monday when Caitlyn Jenner introduced herself to the world via Twitter, and promptly broke the internet. The culmination of Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bruce Jenner’s transition to trans-woman, Caitlyn’s emergence on an upcoming Vanity Fair cover shot her into the social media stratosphere, and shattered a record for fastest accumulation of one million followers: four hours and three minutes. The previous record was set just a few weeks ago, by President Obama’s new Twitter feed, which reached that mark in four-and-a-half hours. Jenner’s total follower count still lags behind President Obama’s by about half a million, but the week is young.
Among those tweeting support for Jenner was the @BarackObama Twitter account, which is run by Organizing For America volunteers:
It takes courage to share your story. https://t.co/Q7wWjV9Rxx

At Tuesday’s White House daily briefing, Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked if President Obama had any reaction to the end of his short reign in the record books, or to Caitlyn Jenner’s announcement. “It was good while it lasted,” Earnest said of the record, but praised Jenner for her announcement…READ MORE

I was on the fence about this, I am really not concerned about others personal lives. I feel it is not my business and I could not feel comfortable “judging” another person. I have heard this situation explained today on TV in a way where it made me familiarize myself with the troubles Caitlyn had dealt with before coming to this decision. Bruce had lived a life where he was making others happy, finally he decided to become a she and live the life where she was making herself happy. How many years did “Bruce” waste being unhappy because society stipulates how “he” should live. We really need to be selfish in a way where we start living for ourselves and our own happiness and quit trying to please others and be the person they want us to be. “Bruce” wasted decades and we all have done this ourselves to some degree and I understand how this is a positive thing not just something that commercializes a persons personal experience. I completely support what Caitlyn has done with her life, now get the kardashians off my TV and all is forgiven.

In her recent television interview, Ms. Jenner announced that she was a Republican.
I wonder what her reaction will be to the inevitable criticism of the President by right wingers for taking the time to take note of her personal story.
I don’t mean to belittle the life-changing confusion encountered by transgender people. But that confusion cannot possibly be any more severe than the cognitive dissonance that is necessary for a transgender person to vote Republican.

It does not make sense to me either, but people follow a certain political party for multiple reasons. I won’t question what her reason is, but now that she has come to terms with who she is, maybe she will learn to embrace it and support those who support her.

well the rwnj’s won’t embrace her. they don’t want her rooting for them that’s for sure.
Suzanne McFly June 2nd, 2015 at 21:32
It seems that many won’t embrace her because they won’t embrace their own desires. They figure if they ignore them, they will go away but we have seen how that works.

hell, even rudy did it (the dress up thing anyway) you know he’s wants to go all out and do what caitlyn has done.

They think it is so easy to be a woman, just chop off the hoo-hoo’s and attach the boobies, I would love to see their faces when they are told they also have to have their brains placed in the head on their shoulders so they can use it to accomplish tasks.

she hasn’t had her lobotomy yet.

Well put.
I just wish her well and hope she has a happy life, just like I hope that for everyone.
Last night I was disgusted (again) by being exposed to Fox, which was having people on who were trying to club Jenner.
I found the whole business loathesome and my only response was an uncontrollable urge to wash my hands over and over…..

If the fox viewers don’t like me, then I know I am doing it right.
burqa June 3rd, 2015 at 15:22
I like you because you’re doing just about everything right…

Absolutely correct! Because, when you think about it, life’s way too short. Why spend it worrying what other people are going to think? Besides, homophobia is soooo last decade!

Why is the White House commenting on Jenner?
whatthe46 June 2nd, 2015 at 22:16
is there something wrong with the white house supporting it’s American Citizens. Would you prefer the white house speak ill of her? or would you expect them to not answer when the question was asked?
Lydia/one2the92the82the5 June 2nd, 2015 at 23:44
I don’t care what Jenner is doing. He isn’t hurting anyone, but I believe that this country has much more pressing issues to address.
whatthe46 June 3rd, 2015 at 00:42
are you suggesting the POTUS isn’t addressing serious issues because a spokes person for the white house took time to answer question about it? do you honestly think, a press conference was held specifically to discuss jenner? it came up in a question and it was answered. was it the president that addressed the media specifically for the purpose of discussing jenner?
tracey marie June 2nd, 2015 at 22:47
why do you ask, are you afraid that your hate is being rejected by the majority of American citizens?
Lydia/one2the92the82the5 June 2nd, 2015 at 23:43
No I don’t hate Jenner. I just think there are more pertinent things the media could be addressing.
burqa June 3rd, 2015 at 15:19
psssst! the White House isn’t the media!

For 7 or 8 years now I have been saying we need a jayvee board….
whatthe46 June 2nd, 2015 at 22:14
shhhh. don’t tell everybody. what’s wrong with you.
William June 2nd, 2015 at 22:34
I don’t think the white house cares about this either way. I think this was just a very cool way to remind the right wing, neo conservative, holier than thou homophobes that Ms. Jenner is a republican.
