Muslim Denied Soda On Flight For Fear She’d Use It As Weapon

The Muslim woman is a chaplain at Northwestern University.

Tahera Ahmad, an associate chaplain and director of interfaith engagement, relayed the alleged incident on Facebook while she was on the flight Friday night.

She told her followers she was in tears following the exchange, which she said prompted a passenger to swear at her and also make anti-Muslim remarks.

Earlier, Ahmad said the flight attendant had given her an opened can of Diet Coke.

When Ahmad requested an unopened can, the flight attendant told her, “Well, I’m sorry. I just can’t give you an unopened can, so no Diet Coke for you.”

The same flight attendant then proceeded to give another passenger an unopened can of beer, Ahmad said.

Ahmad said she again asked the flight attendant why the man was able to receive an unopened beverage but she couldn’t.

The flight attendant, according to Ahmad, replied, “We are unauthorized to give unopened cans to people, because they may use it as a weapon on the plane.”

When Ahmad proceeded to tell the flight attendant she felt she was being discriminated against, the flight attendant quickly grabbed the man’s can, opened it and said, “It’s so you don’t use it as a weapon,” Ahmad said.

    fuking disgusting! i’m soooo sorry this happened to her. i have requested, anytime i am to receive a can of beer or soda, that it not be opened prior to my receiving it. for a couple of reasons. and those reasons are my own. but, i’ll share. 1. i don’t know who’s opening my beverage. 2. i like to make sure the can top is clean. i will even use a napkin to clean the top and it doesn’t matter if it looks clean. 3. cans tend to have been sitting in storage and rat chit, for all i know may have dropped on it. maybe i shared too much? aside from that. how about the crazy ass mcveigh’s that might aboard your flight?!!

    The linked article doesn’t say whether she filed a formal complaint, though the airline seemed to want her to do so. I hope she did.
    The good news is the stewardess saw she was wrong fairly soon and not only apologized, but also took it up with the pilot and the company.
    The ones deserving of the most condemnation here are the horrible passengers.

      All commercial airlines should be equipped with passenger selected ejection seats.
