Administration Prepping Gun Regulations
The Justice Department plans to enact gun regulations before the end of the year.
The regulations range from new restrictions on high-powered pistols to gun storage requirements. Chief among them is a renewed effort to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.
Gun safety advocates have been calling for such reforms since the Sandy Hook school shooting nearly three years ago in Newtown, Conn. They say keeping guns away from dangerous people is of primary importance
But the gun lobby contends that such a sweeping ban would unfairly root out a number of prospective gun owners who are not a danger to society.
“It’s clear President Obama is beginning his final assault on our Second Amendment rights by forcing his anti-gun agenda on honest law-abiding citizens through executive force,” said Luke O’Dell, vice president of political affairs at the National Association for Gun Rights. The Justice Department plans to issue new rules expanding criteria for people who do not qualify for gun ownership, according to the recently released Unified Agenda, which is a list of rules that federal agencies are developing.

National Association for Gun Rights? I didn’t know guns had rights. What about my right not to be shot with one?

I vote Democrat because I believe that everyones constitutional rights are negotiable except for mine.

You vote Democrat? That sentiment would seem to indicate otherwise.

Of course the gun lobby objects to this:
“…who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse.”

People like O’Dell piss me off to no end. Our kids are dying almost everyday because some gun owner in their own home is careless/negligent, but all he’s concerned about are new regulations which probably won’t apply to him. Our kids dying needlessly by self-inflicted gunshots needs to stop, and if a new rule on gun storage and a requirement to buy gun insurance will help, I’m 100% behind it. I see no reason why we should sit/stand idly by while we read about our babies killing themselves with unsecured guns. This is not the way an “exceptional” nation of persons behaves, especially one in which the loudest voices shout, “We are a Christian nation!” and “This is a pro-life nation!” Not once have I read in the New Testament where Jesus Christ picked up a weapon to oppose someone or even endorsed the use of violence. It sickens me that many who claim to be Christians and pro-life seem to live very comfortably while knowing our babies are picking up unsecured guns and killing themselves almost every frigging day.
A pox on O’Dell and others like him who love to talk about being pro-life while dismissing the deaths of our kids—deaths which could be stopped/reduced with a few tweaks of our gun laws or a few new rules.
