Think of it as evolution in action (Thanx, Larry Niven!):
Those that “get it” are immune, those that have their minds made up already are in the choir being preached to, and those that remain will either fall for it (in which case, there was little hope of changing their opinion, and who cares about their opinion anyway),or not (indicating that those people take the time to research things, and don’t just listen to some Yahoo(®) for an opinion to agree with.).
Like TRUE followers of Jesus, we’re improving the breed, even if it takes a gawdawful long time.

Globalization passed its tipping point years ago. Whatever new era follows will reduce luxury travel and senseless commuting and basic shipment of commodities, material goods and foods more locally grown, closer to home and community.
The Millenium will build railroad lines across America. Warren Buffett’s BNSF will NOT ship explosive 100-car oil and gas tanker trains, Wyoming coal trains through the Pacific Northwest. Get on the Tesla train.
I totally applaud all these ideas, but the corporateers do not, so we are in for a huge struggle to turn all of this around, and build and use locally, as you suggest.
One need not control money to be wealthy. Corporateers gain control with transport/travel fuel/energy. The four-minute warning was a public alert system conceived by the British Government during the Cold War and operated between 1953 and 1992. The name derived from the approximate length of time from the point at which a Soviet nuclear missile attack against the United Kingdom could be confirmed and the impact of those missiles on their targets. The population was to be notified by means of air raid sirens, television and radio, and urged to seek cover immediately. In practice, the warning would have been more likely three minutes or less.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExYP5hWVSyg

2 st.louis NFL players go undercover as homeless people
St.
Louis Rams defensive ends Chris Long and William Hayes went undercover
to experience life among the homeless, bringing awareness to an issue
that impacts over 570,000 people in the United States.
The NFL players went on a unique journey documented in a SportsCenter special that aired Sunday, and ESPN.com’s Elizabeth Merrill wrote an in-depth feature story about Long and Hayes to provide context.
Long spoke extensively on Twitter about how what he saw impacted his view of homelessness:
We
were supposed to stay in a shelter after our first night on the streets
before our cover was blown. […] We were apprehensive about allowing
those cameras along with us in our experience. ESPN hit us up a few days
before.
I think raising awareness is important on a lot of levels
but the thing I took away was the human element of the problem.
Awareness can’t fix everything, and just 2 days and a night on the
street didn’t give us any answers. It did however give us perspective.
