County Chairman: Non-Christian Prayers Not Welcome

Posted by | May 11, 2015 23:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics Religion

Prayers before meetings are banned in Rowan County, North Carolina, but the Chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners says they’ll be held anyway–but only if they’re Christian prayers.

Chairman Carrol Mitchem said that prayers will continue to be held in Lincoln County, in addition to the removal of any persons who perform non-Christian prayers.

“A Muslim? He comes in here to say a prayer, I’m going to tell him to leave. I have no use for (those) people. They don’t need to be here praying to Allah or whoever the hell they pray to. I’m not going to listen to (a) Muslim pray,” Mitchem said.

After the American Civil Liberties Union filed a suit against Rowan County for their Christian prayers in 2013, Judge James Beaty ruled in the Union’s favor, saying that the county violated the First Amendment by referencing “Jesus” and The Savior” in their prayers, Lincoln Times News reported.

Mitchem further elaborated his beliefs, saying that he does not agree with current court decisions affecting individual beliefs throughout the nation.

“Changing rules on the way the United States was founded, Constitution was founded (I don’t like). I don’t need no Arab or Muslim or whoever telling me what to do or us here in the county what to do about praying. If they don’t like it, stay the hell away,” he said.

I’ll guess that my liberal Christians prayers wouldn’t be much more welcome, either.

I see another law suit coming…with big fines and people being asked to leave their positions.

I’m not 100% certain, but there might possibly be more than two religions on this planet. What over non-Christian religions are not allowed to pray?

Did this man have to take an oath of office? Did he deliberately bear false witness while doing so? I would like another lawsuit naming this cretin as a defendant. Arrogance and ignorance do not replace upholding the constitution as your official duty.
