President Obama Calls For Magic ‘Political Mobilization’ Around Baltimore Crisis

As the city of Baltimore braces for another tense night of unrest over the death of Freddie Gray, President Obama delivered what amounted to a mini-speech on the crisis during a press conference Tuesday. While answering questions at a joint news conference with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, President Obama spoke for about 16 minutes on the topic, rolling out six points worth of now-familiar responses to the unrest in Baltimore, and the issues that underpin it.

You can see the bottom of the page for the full transcript of President Obama’s remarks on Baltimore, but here are the six parts of his response, in summary:

1. His thoughts and prayers are with the family of Freddie Gray, and the Department of Justice has opened an investigation into the incident which took Gray’s life.

2. His thoughts are also with the police officers who were injured Monday.

3. There is no excuse for violence.

4. The violent unrest undercuts the overwhelming majority of the community who behaved appropriately and protested peacefully.

5. Police violence against African Americans is nothing new, but video and social media have brought it to the fore. President Obama has been working with local police authorities on retraining and equipping with body cameras.

6. There are deep problems underpinning this issue that can only be solved if they are important to everyone.

This is obviously an issue that President Obama cares a great deal about, but his response here is…READ MORE

I’m watching MSNBC and what I see are mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers being cool and trying to make sure others are going to be cool tonight…
But there is always going to be a handful, a small percentage of assholes who want to come out after dark and do stupid counter productive shit that damages the cause…
I expect there will be more burning and looting tonight..
Maybe even for a few more nights..

Years of pent up frustrations based on repression and lack of economic opportunity have to have an outlet..

Yet in all the midst of all the tension and unrest, one can still hear that familiar flatulence which emanates from beneath the rotting corpse of furry roadkill

translation: if you people hadn’t elected a black president, the white police officers, (pissed because of him) wouldn’t have to murder innocent people of color to get out their frustration.
but nevermind every uncivilized mistreatment from slavery thru today committed by white people, and white cops, this country has always had a white president in office. so, i’d like him to explain whose fault was it during those times. ’cause it would mean all white presidents, never had any positive impact on their thugs, police included. guess he forgot about king. surely wouldn’t be a surprised if he could figure Obama in that mix too.

            I hear ya.

Baltimore’s police force is half black. Furthermore, the cops are unionized. They are your union brothers. Lefties scream for more and bigger government and then wonder why city police forces now look like militaries large enough to serve a small nation-state.

“Lefties scream for more and bigger government and then wonder why city police forces now look like militaries large enough to serve a small nation-state.” if you repeat that to yourself about 5k more time, you’ll see just how fk’n stupid that comment was. and since you won’t realize it after 5k, i’ll stop you there. rwnj’s are in everywomans vajaja, ever mans pen*s and where it should go, to the point they want more government involvement your life. how big of a soda you can purchase or sell, to if the LGBT community should be banned from marriage. big gov. got it. ah, hell, who am i kidding you don’t care.

              • xpatYankeeCurmudgeon April 28th, 2015 at 23:23

I don’t care who does what to your ‘vajaja.’ I don’t care who you marry.
Drink all the soda you want. I never touch the sh*t. Here is my question – if you are so smart, so clever, so righteous, so sure that science and logic are on you side and that you are ‘the 99 percent’ why do you need so much help (more and more govt) in getting the rest of us to believe in your endlessly failed plans to engineer a better or even perfect society? And why does “liberalism” always rely on either lies or coercion?

                • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 23:28

who in the flying fk’n monkey’s do you think i’m talking about with regards to big government? the darn elves? i’m talking about rwnj’s. all that you just said about “who cares what” is the rwnj’s wanting to use big govt to control your lives. democrates and liberals are not on that boat of big govt and controll. what are you nuts?

                  • xpatYankeeCurmudgeon April 28th, 2015 at 23:34

Mass welfare IS big government. Nationalizing one-sixth of the most dynamic economy on the planet and telling the rubes they now have “free” health care IS big government. Open your eyes.

                    • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 23:38

you are hopeless. that’s it. hopeless. there’s so much wrong and lies and it’s such a pathetic way of avoiding what i said. yep, look over there>>>>>>

                    • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 23:55

wealthy repukes are on govt. welfare. lol. you open your eyes.

And why does “liberalism” always rely on either lies or coercion?

You show your true colors, and that you are incapable of rational discussion. But two can play that game. I could ask why do conservatives show faux concern to save unborn babies, and then let them starve once they are born? Why do conservatives lie incessantly? See, any jerkwad can play the “speak of moral failings of your ideological opponent” with no actual facts to support them.

Where did you get your VAST knowledge of liberalism’s tactics? Is the Liberal Political Strategy Manual posted down at the lube shop? And why do you use words like “always?” Nothing, not even the universe, is for “always.” That’s a very liberal helping of “ain’t possible” you got there.

          just read this about “thugs.”

          ****

“Baltimore Councilman Carl Stokes isn’t playing that game.”
          ****
“When Erin Burnett suggested that “thugs” was the right word to use to describe the rioters, Stokes took exception to that. “Just call them ‘niggers, just call them niggers,” he said. , “we don’t have to call them names such as that.””
          ***
“He added, “No, of course it’s not the right word to call our children thugs…. These are children who’ve been set aside, marginalized, and not engaged by us. No, we don’t have to call them thugs.””
          ****
“Former Congressman Kweisi Mfume jumped in and said that it was all just a distraction from the real issues that led to the riots: poverty, despair, hunger, homelessness, and “a sense of not belonging.””

    • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 20:59

what i don’t understand is that, between king (and prior) and martin (to ferguson) why haven’t the police gotten it? enough all fk’n ready. none of the young men and women, might i add, were on the police watch list for violent behavior, yet they are targeted and murdered w/o any consequences to the departments “officers” or the heads of the department. if there are no consequences, it will continue and unfortunately, this is the outcome. civil unrest. some are uncivil, because they have grown frustrated, some are uncivil because they can be. of course there’s no way to tell the difference in their mind sets. but, the bottom line is, why would you risk this outcome in your city/state, by not getting a handle on it now? the police department and politics is the driving force in all this mess. also, it has been us against them, now, with this death, and the way he died has made it much more worse.

        Excellent question..

        • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 21:46

quite frankly, if business owners had any sense or the rich who owns any of these businesses, they’d be out their protesting too. because its the very police department that you support and call every murder a valid one. don’t want to chance your business getting burned down, then i suggest you all get your collective heads together (may take about 1k of them to spark up those neurons and complain. it doesn’t have to be (but it would be nice) that they call for some serious dicipline to these officers, because they see the wrong, no nope i think they would likely say, “because we are losing business.”

      • pignose4.0 April 28th, 2015 at 21:53

Human habits are hard to change, some police departments have become comfortable doing this shit and the only way it changes is to expose them like what happened in L A after the King beating and the riots then the cops changed but it took awhile.

    • xpatYankeeCurmudgeon April 28th, 2015 at 22:51

“Years of pent up frustrations based on repression and lack of economic opportunity have to have an outlet..”

That 80 percent of the “thugs and criminals” (President Obama, yesterday) are born out of wedlock doesn’t help…

      • Budda April 29th, 2015 at 09:20

neither does poor schools, lack of jobs and a lack of any kind of good future

  3. xpatYankeeCurmudgeon April 28th, 2015 at 22:48

Good to see Obama calling the Democrats destroying Baltimore what they are – “thugs and criminals.”

    • whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 22:58

and i’m not happy he said that.

  4. whatthe46 April 28th, 2015 at 23:25

who’s to say cops changed? no one had a video camera 24/7/365 back then. not everyone had surveilance video back then. it’s just that between then a more recently, people are able to record it all.

  5. John Tarter April 29th, 2015 at 02:10

And the latest from Maryland Democrat Steny Hoyer when asked if his party has failed the city. “We need more Federal dollars” he said, saying nothing about the failed DEMOCRAT leadership of the city, the political party which has been in charge of it it since 1967. You would think that by now the people would start voting for someone else besides Democrats as city leaders.
