Pope Steps Up Climate Change Campaign

This is not making conservatives happy.

…as Francis prepares to deliver what is likely to be a highly influential encyclical this summer on environmental degradation and the effects of human-caused climate change on the poor, he is alarming some conservatives in the United States who are loath to see the Catholic Church reposition itself as a mighty voice in a cause they do not believe in.

As part of the effort for the encyclical, top Vatican officials will hold a summit meeting Tuesday to build momentum for a campaign by Francis to urge world leaders to enact a sweeping United Nationsclimate change accord in Paris in December. The accord would for the first time commit every nation to enact tough new laws to cut the emissions that cause global warming.

The Vatican summit meeting will focus on the links between poverty, economic development and climate change, with speeches and panel discussions by climate scientists and religious leaders, and economists like Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia. The United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, who is leading efforts to forge the Paris accord, will deliver the opening address.

What is that hot breeze I feel? Oh, I see now. It must be all the rwnj’s heads exploding and flooding the air with the hot steam that was housed in a unit that should of contained brain matter.

Remember, you folks were all a twitter about his “who am I to judge” words, and then he summarily rejects the gay ambassador from France. There is most likely something that the media is not telling us about this.

What? What the hell are you talking about? I am in this conversation and you are bringing up a whole different animal? Focus, and reply to this discussion right here on this page. If you see shiny objects, ignore them and learn to focus your attention on the topic at hand.

You must not have met Johnny this past weekend. Good Luck

I have seen him, but I usually try not to reply. This time I did, but he won’t know how to respond so I am pretty sure he is gone and won’t carry on in this “discussion” or whatever that mess is.

My fingers and little ankles are crossed but this past Saturday am it was funny ’cause just about every last single regular commentator jumped all over him.

This is his usual response…gets his butt beaten badly so he changes the subject…favorite bagger tactic …well what about…

This is the climate summit that the Koch-suckers from the Heartland Institute intend to crash to talk some sense into the Pope. Should be amusing to see how that plays out. Droughts and sea level rise will result in large-scale migrations. It would be a good idea for the church leaders to plan for helping their flock. Unless of course you’re a Murican-style christian who just says “screw ’em, it’s not my problem”.

Will scientists who disagree with the man-made “climate change” fanatics be in attendance?

    • chilly1952 April 28th, 2015 at 16:46

      He may be.

      • Roctuna April 28th, 2015 at 18:48

I thought there might be two. You’re probably right.

    • William April 28th, 2015 at 16:51

Well I hope so. I also hope they will be represented in numbers consistent with scientific consensus.

    • Roctuna April 28th, 2015 at 18:47

      Both of ’em?

    • Roctuna April 28th, 2015 at 20:11

So what your saying is, thousands upon thousands of scientists in earth science, climatology, glaciology, oceanography, astrophysics, marine biology, meteorology and other specialties are “fanatics”. Are they involved in a global conspiracy too? You’re nuts.

      • tracey marie April 28th, 2015 at 20:27

we all know he is nuts

    • Bunya April 29th, 2015 at 16:47

I’m sure one of the greatest climate change experts of our time, Bill O’Reilly, won’t be in attendance. I hear he’s busy writing his next novel, “Killing Climatologists”.
