I’m With The President In Ugly Obama-Elizabeth Warren Trade Fight

The Democrats’ simmering intra-party struggle over the Trans-Pacific Partnership has come to a boil this week, pitting President Barack Obama against Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and more pointedly, President Obama’s supporters against the Warren Wing of the Democratic Party. The deal, and trade in general, have long been contentious issues among Democratic supporters, but with a vote looming on granting President Obama greater flexibility to negotiate the final deal, criticism from the Warren Wing has gotten increasingly louder. Then, shit got real:

Well, I guess they don`t want it to happen. And I love Elizabeth. We`re allies on a whole host of issues. But she`s wrong on this.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Tuesday night, President Obama defended the agreement, but in doing so, raised the hackles of the Warren Wing. When Sen. Warren took to Twitter to respond to the President, it was open warfare between her supporters and those of the President, and on Wednesday night’s The Rachel Maddow Show, the deeper roots of the battle lines began to take shape, as host Rachel Maddow took pains to cast President Obama’s remarks as a condescending sexist breach…READ MORE

Sorry, but I’m with Warren on this.

I love Warrens passion in her beliefs, and I hate the trade policies we have had in the past, but this is going to happen with our without us and we need to make sure we have some sort of say in this. We need to keep some skin in the game and continue exporting and importing goods, billions of dollars are involved not to mention the camaraderie attained with our allies.

I’m suspicious of most trade deals, but I’m going to reserve judgement on this one until we have more details.

Just once I’d like to see a trade deal that actually protects American workers and boosts American exports and manufacturing. I’m not holding my breath, but clinging to a sliver of cautious optimism.

Warren is wrong on this. She and the rest of the far left are spouting about TPP being negotiated in secret (as all trade deals have been) but bragging about knowing what’s in it at the same time. How can you know what is in a trade deal that is negotiated in secret? Hmm?

TC speaks the truth. The loudest voices against TPP are mirroring those on the far right regarding the potential Iran deal. There’s a blueprint for both, but no final product. How can you know what is in TPP when it’s being negotiated in secret, as all trade deals are?

corporations and their lobbyists all want it, not one republican has spoken out against it, and its totally closed to public review. WHY ? if its such a great deal why hide it ?

I’m cynical so I will just say this, where is the cheapest labor? I haven’t been briefed or read the deal so I’m speaking out of past practice.

Capitalism can’t and won’t survive on the back of slave labor, it would be nice if our moral compass was at the table.

Blue sky……Apple phones made in Nebraska?

If this is such a good trade deal, why do you think they keep it locked in a vault and secret from the American people?
Republics have fought Obama on EVERY single issue since day one. Why do you think the GOP suddenly backed Obama on this trade deal and voted FOR it? C’mon now… think hard….
