Tiny New European Nation Formed–Named Liberland!

Posted by | April 22, 2015 16:00 | Filed under: Politics Pot Luck

They left out a letter, but it’s still a pretty good name. One man is responsible for forming this new nation.

The man in question is former Czech Vit Jedlicka. He is now the president of the Free Republic of Liberland, which is a 7km2 stretch of land on the west bank of the Dunube river between Serbia and Croatia. It is actually disputed land by the Serbian and Croatian governments, neither currently own it, and therefore it was classed as no man’s land.

Liberland already has a website, a flag, a coat of arms, and a moto: “To live and let live.” It’s also proving very popular. Jedlicka and his team of volunteers put out the call for 5,000 people to become a part of the new nation, but registrations for those limited citizenships have surpassed 160,000. Now a team of seven volunteers are slowly sifting through those registrations attempting to select the best candidates.

The idea of a new nation came into existence originally as a political stunt and protest because Jedlicka was a member of the Party of Free Citizens in the Czech Republic. At some point, however, it became real and support grew to the point where it made sense to go ahead and form the nation. As to the reason for its popularity, it’s probably down to Jedlicka stating that anyone living there won’t be oppressed by the government. It sounds like a great tax haven already, doesn’t it?

In all fairness I got the link from one of our readers, Aun Awn, http://www.alan.com/2015/04/22/on-wednesdays-radio-show-378/

      • Anomaly 100 April 23rd, 2015 at 08:25

Yes but we want our own country.

        • craig7120 April 23rd, 2015 at 11:14

          …..”we want our own country”
          Crazy talk! lol
I’m gonna have to flag that statement, that’s just ridiculous. Come on, isn’t Hillary enough?

If you could be so kind and make a list of needs, we men will have a meeting and prioritize it for you, how that be? We good?

          Be safe, and god bless

Heh. A writer for Breitbart the other day told me on Twitter to be quiet because men were talking.

Nom, I’m the only boy of 3 sisters. I remember being disrespectful once, woke up the next day with finger nail polish on, the remover hidden. That high school day lasted a life time.

              Your friend,

              Craig

Their website has two very attractive people on the home page, it’s like a dating site (especially with the registration process).

I wonder what they will do for utilities like electricity, sewer, water, etc. Where will they get food? I would really laugh if the bordering countries refused entry from Liberland without a visa which would be way expensive and time consuming to obtain.

    • pignose4.0 April 22nd, 2015 at 20:44

They buy them just like everyone and they can grow their own food they do have land and water and it’s on a navigable river so it would be hard to block them in.

      • Jimmy Fleck April 23rd, 2015 at 09:45

That assumes someone is willing to sell utilities to them at a reasonable price. One country doesn’t get to force another country to sell them utilities does it?

Is it large enough for any other countries to build embassies there?

    • pignose4.0 April 22nd, 2015 at 20:40

      It’s bigger that the Vatican……….

    • dave-dr-gonzo April 22nd, 2015 at 20:56

      Pretty easily.

    • rg9rts April 23rd, 2015 at 02:39

      Wait till they find oil

    • fahvel April 23rd, 2015 at 02:51

multiroomed motel will serve for embassies as long as they don’t abuse the ice machine. Anything more, like today’s embassies of splash and bling and shame is useless.

Okay, lets go. Which one of us gets to play leader first?

  7. ValianThor April 22nd, 2015 at 20:55

Alan must be named Secretary of State!

  8. ValianThor April 22nd, 2015 at 21:36

Their work is cut out. First, establish a Constitutional Congress. Alan’s “Big City” experience should help here. Also, the country’s “neighbors” aren’t exactly known for being peaceable types. Salivating arms dealers would be welcome here; and a Patrick Henry-type needs to ride across the countryside yelling “To Arms! To Arms!” for this fledgling “country.”

just goes to show how wars dumb down people (even good people) over the generations.

hopefully, they will embrace the idea of higher education -at least enough to say their _BC’s?

    D_mn!
Now they’ve got me doing it.

First order of business: buy _ vowel, ple_se.

So when are all you left wing wackos leaving for it? Come on Alan, you take the first step and all your sycophants here will follow.

    • arc99 April 23rd, 2015 at 02:28

It probably never occurs to you that you and your right wing BS are tolerated here in a manner that is unheard of on right wing websites.

Try going over to redstate.com, refer to Erick Erickson’s readers as sycophants and see how long it takes them to cancel your account. You will not need a calendar. A stopwatch will be sufficient.

Criticism of the editors of right wing sites like redstate will get you banned. Opinions which contradict the politically correct right wing party line are prohibited. So the next time you are inclined to post some bullsh*t about how intolerant we liberals are of opposing opinions, I invite you to review this link and educate yourself who is really intolerant of opposing opinions. It would be your right wing colleagues.

      http://www.redstate.com/posting-rules/

      6. It is forbidden to promote or give any kind of support for parties other than the Republican Party, or candidates running against Republican primary, caucus, and/or convention nominees. Exceptions to this rule are granted when announced prominently on the front page of the site.

why do any of the sane people here ever respond to tooth decay? Just his written words a smarmy – the halitosis has got to be a WMD.

        • arc99 April 23rd, 2015 at 10:52

I just find it difficult to allow his hatred, lies and hypocrisy to go unchallenged

I looked at the link, thought it was a gag at first.

    • OldLefty April 23rd, 2015 at 05:14

Remember when WE suggested that YOU right wing wackos move to Russia to be with YOUR boyfriend, Putin?

    • Alan April 23rd, 2015 at 08:15

nah, we can’t leave you to run the country.

      • ExPFCWintergreen April 23rd, 2015 at 09:22

Frankly, Alan, this is not the place for you and me. “Liberland” would more accurately be translated into American Political English as LibertarianLand — the goal is for citizens to “prosper” without “state regulation or taxes” and with an economic system based on Bitcoin, where government will be constitutionally banned from going into debt. In other words, it sounds a whole lot more like a high school classroom assignment from a D&D-playing Ayn Rand fanboy in New Hampshire than it does a Liberaland.

Relax Skippy. You guys still have your own country.

  11. fahvel April 23rd, 2015 at 02:47

you always have to throw in the fn $ thing. Maybe it’s going to be a nice place where the govt oppress. Quite a change from the other EU states and north and south america.

They have their fantasy nation…and we have ours.

My brother, too. We were raised by a single mother (divorced with an arsehole for a father). My brother has two sisters and he grew up to be extremely respectful of women. He had no choice:-)
