I like it too, Alan. Everything different I see is a change for the better. It seems to be loading faster, too, with fewer “Disqus seems to be taking longer than usual. Reload?” – messages.
‘preciate that!.

Interesting Dutch study on the effects of cannabis use on academic performance:
“The effects we find are large, consistent and statistically very significant,” Marie told the Observer. “For example, we estimate that students who were no longer able to buy cannabis legally were 5% more likely to pass courses.
Interestingly, Marie and Zölitz found the effects were even more pronounced when it came to particular disciplines. “The policy effect is five times larger for courses requiring numerical/mathematical skills,” the pair write.

I didn’t see this one coming:
“Clinton the Musical” has opened off Broadway, the plot is related to the Monica Lewinsky/blue dress/cigar drama.

The one and only Lester Bangs made a great argument for MMM being the greatest elpee of all times.
I don’t have the time at the moment, but have a pretty good story about a time where the Bangs article came to mind and I used it to great, comic effect. Sometime I’ll tell this story. I’ll have to do so in an abbreviated form because of its length and also because one day I may publish a collection of my storiies.
Bangs had some legendary duels with Reed. One of my favorite lines came when he went to do battle with Reed wearing sunglasses like Reed’s, and they messed things up. So Bangs finally offered, “Lou, if you’ll take your sunglasses off, I’ll remove mine.”
Lester Bangs on why Metal Machine Music is the greatest album of all time:

Went To TopShop To Buy Some Girl Clothes, I Mean ‘Clothes’,” he captioned his Instagram selfie.
Evidently, he’s experiencing both the upsides and downsides of skirt-wearing.
“That Moment When Your Wearing A Dress With No Pants And You Swerve Way To Hard,” he tweeted Thursday.

To be filed in the “You can’t make this stuff up” box. Hillary Clinton, who makes some 200k per speech from large organizations attacked high CEO pay in an E-mail to supporters. She said that CEO’s are making 300 times more than your average worker makes, causing them to “struggle”. Hey Hill, why not speak for 20k so that those organizations you speak in front of can pay their workers more? This is going to be interesting watching the 1%er Hillary Clinton try to portray herself as just some poor average working schlub.

Nice try Skippy, but you’re going to have to do way better than that.
John Tarter April 14th, 2015 at 15:55
She is slick, no doubt about that. But come on, do you really thing the public at large is going to believe in her faux populism? I mean really, it’s either first class or private jet everywhere she goes. And the car trip out to Iowa and her going to Chipotle. Good heavens, this is all so fake.

Mmmmm, I’m already getting food from my garden and it’s marvy to start out with the King of Vegetables – asparagus. It’s been a lesson in patience watching those babies get taller and taller without cutting some of them, but finally yesterday was time.
Much of the time I just steam it, and have the steamer pot on the stove when I go out to cut me some.
This time, I decided to go with an asparagus casserole. The following is a recipe that won a Betty Crocker competition in days of yore and is a classic in my family. Even people who don’t care for asparagus love it!. It’s even better as a left-over. Indeed, leftovers have never been known to last more than a day. It’s great cold, making it a superb target for late-night snacking.
Ingredients:
1 can of concentrated cream of mushroom soup.
1 can of asparagus stems and pieces.
butter.
2/3 of a tube of saltine crackers.
whole milk
Several slices of American cheese.
1)Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2)Take a 2 quart pyrex mixing bowl and coat the entire inside of it generously with butter. I take a stick, peel back the wrapper and use it like a crayon. Then I’ll cut a few thin slices of butter and use my finger tips to dab it around the sides for some extra.
3) Crumble up the saltine crackers into small pieces, oh, I’d say less than half the size of a dime for the largest pieces. Don’t turn it all into powder. Dump these into the buttered mixing bowl and tilt it around till the inside is coated with the cracker crumbs and cracker dust. Pour the rest off into another bowl and set aside.
4) In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, asparagus and fill the soup can with whole milk and pour that in there. Lightly salt and give it several good shakes of black pepper. Mix this all together and pour into the buttered, crackered bowl.
5). Cover the top with slices of American cheese. Pour the rest of the cracker crumbs on top, covering it evenly.
6) Put a half dozen or so chunks of butter on the cracker crumbs.
7) Put the whole works into the preheated oven and check after 30 minutes. It’ll be ready when the top is nicely browned and the casserole goodness is kind of boiling up here and there.
8) Take it out and let cool at least a half hour. It’ll still be hot inside, so watch it.
9) Remember to drop me a line thanking me for this easy, delicious recipe!
