Conservative White House Reporter Refuses To Call Obama ‘President’ At Briefing
At several points during the Obama presidency, there have been controversies surrounding how people in the media should refer to President Obama. Many supporters of our nation’s first black president bristle when they hear him referred to simply as “Obama,” or “Mr. Obama,” even on second reference. The preferred formulation of news organizations has always been to use the honorific in the first reference in an article, then use the last name only for the rest of the piece, and they’ve almost uniformly reacted to this sensitivity with a mix of thinly-veiled pique and condescension.
But there’s no argument that calling Obama by his last name only at a press briefing, without a first reference, is anything but a sign of disrespect, at best. That’s why an exchange between The Washington Examiner‘s Susan Crabtree and White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, at Tuesday’s daily briefing, was so jarring. In asking Earnest about the President’s remarks at the Easter Prayer Breakfast, and whether the president plans to put a stop to ISIS beheadings by appointing an ambassador-level envoy for religious minorities, Crabtree did it four times...READ MORE

ACA, they have not covered the debunks of the “horror stories like the print media did, like, Dianne Barrette;
Erik Wemple of the Washington Post called her shortly
after the CBS article appeared. Nancy Metcalf of Consumer Reports examined her case and provided a detailed
breakdown of what insurance she has today versus what she could buy for next year.
As she’s become more aware of her
options, she said, she’s no longer aghast at losing her plan—and curious to see what alternatives are available. “Maybe,” she told me, “it’s a blessing in disguise.”

FY2009 federal deficit was running at a rate of $1.2 trillion on the day Obama took office in the
midst of a financial crisis.
The debt is now growing less rapidly than during Obama’s first years, CBO projects this year’s deficit will be $506 billion, so the deficit has fallen by more than half since he took office.
Medical AND hospital costs are down (largely because of the drop in uncompensated care)

Lowest Uninsured
The number of people without health insurance dropped from 17.3 percent at the end
of 2013 to 13.8 percent at the end of 2014, the lowest rate recorded since
Gallup began tracking it.
Also for the seventh consecutive year, Texas has the highest uninsured rate at
24.4%, although this percentage is lower than the 27.0% reported in 2013 and is
the lowest rate measured to date for Texas.
States with the lowest uninsured rates continue to cluster in the East and upper
Midwest. Uninsured rates are highest in the South and the West.

OldLefty April 9th, 2015 at 18:45
That’s what we said about Reagan, Bush and Bush.
So what?
The difference between the right and the left in disrespect?
With the left, it was just the rank and file, not the elected officials When
Reagan was president, and we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the embassy resulting in 17 dead Americans.
Then we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the marine barracks resulting in 241 dead Americans.
Then we got the warning;
‘WE CAN NOT PROTECT OUR PEOPLE IN BEIRUT’ followed by the attack on the embassy annex resulting in 24 dead Americans.
Not
even to mention Bill Buckley……
Tip O’Neil had an investigation. One investigation and one investigation only to
ascertain where our security was lax and how to improve it.
As
recently as those days, politics stopped at the water’s edge, (and I feel safe
in saying that I believe that if the roles had been reversed, Republicans would
have behaved the same as Tip O’Neil’s Democrats did), and that is that it would have been considered unseemly, unthinkable, and obscene to dance on the graves of dead Americans just to hurt the president.
Now,
thanks to the modern GOP for whom polarization IS the only strategy they have, it is standard practice.
There is no Joseph Welsh to ask of the Darrell Issas, “Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”
Now, decency will not be allowed to get in the way of the Fabulous, GOP/Fox News Bengha$i BamboozlePalooza Extravaganza!!!
This is why I say that the Reality Based Community and Right Wing World are parallel universes.
Nor… did the Democrats did not plan to obstruct Bush ob the night of his inauguration;
The GOP had a meeting at the Caucus Room , Frank Luntz, and senior GOP members worked out a plan on Inauguration day, 2009, to repeatedly block Obama over the coming four years to try to ensure he would not be re-elected.
As former Sen. George Voinovich goes on record telling … “If Obama was for it, we had to be against it. “He [McConnell] wanted everyone to hold the fort. All he cared about was making sure Obama could never have a clean victory.”
Hence, Cap and Trade went from being “market solutions” when Republicans promoted it to “anti businesses Cap and Tax” when Obama shunned his base and reached across the aisle to promote a policy that REPUBLICANS had supported in the past.
So spare us the “both side” hooey.
But then again, YOU called the president “Obozo”, so surely THAT will add some intellectual heft to your argument.

Donna J. Edmond April 9th, 2015 at 23:02
Protocol for White House briefings, and press conferences states that reporters address the president as “President Obama” or “The President.”
It is a sign of disrespect to use any other title. Running and winning the highest office in the land commands respect. Respect the office. Even if you don’t like the fact that a Black man is President.
Ebola Nurse April 9th, 2015 at 23:58
Please post a copy of that official ‘protocol’ of which you speak. I’ll wait ..
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 00:33

Ebola Nurse April 10th, 2015 at 00:50
That is not ‘official’ protocol. It’s a dot.info address.
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 01:40
Actually, it is. Either you fail to understand what official protocol is or means. So let’s take another approach:
White House Press briefing transcript 4/8/15:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/04/08/press-briefing-press-secretary-josh-earnest-482015
The Word President said 89 times. Proper protocol.
White House Press briefing transcript 4/7/15:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/04/07/press-briefing-press-secretary-josh-earnest-472015White House Press briefing transcript
The word President said 100 times; Obama said 4 times without first mention use the mr president term then second time talked about obama can be used: BREECH OF PROTOCOL. Hence the news story that was posted here.
White House Press briefing transcript: 4/6/15:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/04/06/press-briefing-press-secretary-josh-earnest-and-secretary-energy-ernest-
# of word President: 80. Obama #: 1 and the first time the reporter used the word President: proper protocol
The word President said 80 times
White House Press briefing transcript 4/3/15:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2015/04/03/gaggle-principal-deputy-press-secretary-en-route-andrews-air-force-base
# of word president: 64. no obama: proper protocol.
I could go on, but I think the point is proven. If you have any more concerns about me having debunked your position for a second time, go to the white house website:
https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings
You will be able to go through and read every press briefing transcript and educate yourself further.
Ebola Nurse April 10th, 2015 at 07:06
Posting transcripts from past press conferences is idiotic. What does that have to do with ‘official protocol?’
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 07:28
Interesting response for someone whose argument has been disproven. So: let me see if I can explain this in a way that you will understand:
Providing transcripts from past press briefings is an example that that supports my argument.
Providing transcripts from past press briefings provides historical context that supports my argument.
Providing transcripts from past press briefings provides the person whose argument has been demolished an opportunity to read examples, learn about said historical context, and hopefully learn something that they did not know before.
Reading is fundamental. Education is a good thing. You did not read my link that referred you to a book – your haste (or lack of knowledge) in presenting a counter argument increases the probability that your assumption will be wrong.
Also: Reading from an historical source is always a good thing. And you just might learn something, which is never a bad thing. So: don’t be quick in judgement and don’t be lazy. Read. Absorb. Learn.
Ebola Nurse April 10th, 2015 at 22:09
All of your posts only prove my point: There is no ‘official’ protocol as far as how the president should be referred to at press conferences.
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 23:09
Just saying that protocol doesn’t exist because you say so does not make it true.
I have provided proof backed with an established renowned author.
I have provided access to transcripts that confirm and prove that protocols exist.
You have shown that you don’t read and you have shown your ignorance, and you have been bested. You just don’t want to acknowledge it. To which I say: if you want to remain ignorant, it is your choice.
But you have nothing to refute my argument . Saying your opinion doesn’t prove anything; you have to have verifiable data and reputable sources. If you don’t, you look foolish. Just saying.
Ebola Nurse April 11th, 2015 at 00:46
Without facts to back up your argument, you’ve lost the debate. Party on, Garth ..
Donna J. Edmond April 11th, 2015 at 01:04
Still: you have nothing to refute my argument. Party on Garth does not qualify as verifiable data nor is it a reputable source. I debunked your argument. Twice. You are proud of being profoundly ignorant.
The reporter who breeched protocol apologized:
http://thedailybanter.com/2015/04/white-house-reporter-apologizes-for-calling-president-obama-obama-at-briefing/
Try again. Prove that protocol regarding how to address a sitting president during press briefings doesn’t exist.
burqa April 11th, 2015 at 22:09
Ms. Edmond has provided transcripts and an authoritative source on protocol. It is you who have failed to substantiate your attempt to justify boorish behavior.
The score so far is:
Donna J. Edmond – 3
Ebola Nurse – 0
BobbyDP April 10th, 2015 at 08:55
I suppose it will take a transcript from Fox News before you’ll believe it.
tracey marie April 10th, 2015 at 14:47
no, brietbart or stormfront is this trolls style
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 19:25
You clearly have trouble with reading and comprehension skills. So let me see if I can explain this in a way that even you can understand…
Posting transcripts of previous press briefings support my argument about protocol and the corresponding book on protocol. In other words: those transcripts are examples that further support my argument.
And: the example demonstrates that, once again, I have debunked your argument, twice. You are embarrassed and annoyed because you have no legitimate response to defend your position. Not only have you lost the debate, you look like a profoundly ignorant person as well.
There. I hope that helps. If you can’t understand this post, I will try to use very small, very simple words next time.
mea_mark April 10th, 2015 at 20:58
Please try not to be so mean, especially in a lengthy comment. A little jab maybe if someone is not getting something, but please, I really don’t want to edit this and have to read stuff like this. Try again if you want.
Donna J. Edmond April 10th, 2015 at 23:36
I am not being mean. My posts are quite civil. You just don’t agree with it and you are defining what can and cannot be said and how it can be said. And you are far from objective in those decisions. This is called thought policing.
There has been far worse and egregious and very hostile – in this thread – responses that are being posted. Yet you do nothing about those posts. Can this issue be interpreted as Problematic? Hypocritical? Depends on your point of view. But the right to express this opinion exists.
Having said that: I am glad that you are here. I have sent numerous emails to Disqus on numerous occasions and no one has replied. Also: I have noticed a decline in the quality of several threads that Disqus now manages and I have seen awful things posted that should be removed, yet they are still there.
Disqus makes it difficult to impossible to find out who is in charge of this operation. I suspect that this is not only a cost saving device. The perceived lack of transparency is problematic.
Those are my opinions and observations. Have a nice evening.
burqa April 10th, 2015 at 23:58
That’s the kind of moderating I like. Good one, mea_mark!
We’re fortunate to have you around.
burqa April 11th, 2015 at 00:08
Ms. Edmund’s post was right on target and your reluctance to directly address it is noted.
The following may sound like bragging and I can’t do anything about that, but it is true.
From the time we were toddlers, we were raised among high-ranking officials in Washington, mostly military but also including cabinet-level officials, diplomats and members of Congress. My family attended many social events that were often quite formal and my sister and I were often the only children invited because our manners were always impeccable, thanks to our upbringing.
We never needed any protocol book, because we were taught how to address various people and how to speak to them.
I wanted to salute high-ranking military officers, but obviously this was out because saluting is only done by those in uniform (except the president). So what I did on my own was come up with a sort of bow, which was very well received, as well as the fact that we behaved and could contribute to the conversation at times on an adult level.
Knowing how to behave made it possible for us to attend many functions that would have otherwise been denied to us.
It was nice knowing how to carry ourselves, but the bigger benefit was knowing we brought honor and respect to our family.

You are unaware of such basic courtesies?
My estimation of the upbringing I received from my parents just increased.
Ron Minor April 10th, 2015 at 00:01
Ebola Nurse…… Where were you raised?…… an outhouse in Kentucky? Show some F++king respect!!!!!
R.J. Carter April 10th, 2015 at 22:46
Right, Asking someone if they were raised in a Kentucky outhouse is a great way to encourage someone to show some respect. Just not to you.
jybarz April 10th, 2015 at 00:05

We need our own ‘Jeff Guckert’, a white house plant who will laugh out loud at any question from FOX, and ask the easy questions.
But we’re Liberals, and just aren’t very good at playing dirty.
burqa April 10th, 2015 at 23:46
Damn, I miss having Guckert/Gannon around….
Ron Minor April 9th, 2015 at 23:59
Never again should she be allowed in the White House. Show respect or be banned…. Sick of the disrespect shown to our President by the hillbilly Republicans….
jybarz April 10th, 2015 at 00:02
What a disrespectful, disgraceful conservative BITCH amongst the conservative SONS OF BITCHES in the press room.
R.J. Carter April 10th, 2015 at 22:45
Oh, only the conservatives are the SOB’s in the press room? Careful, I think your aplomb is showing.
jasperjava April 11th, 2015 at 00:06
“Conservative SOB” is a tautology.
R.J. Carter April 11th, 2015 at 10:20
Like “liberal intellectual?” (Oh, wait, I keep getting tautology and oxymoron confused.)
