Jon Stewart’s Daily Show Defense Of Trevor Noah A Missed Opportunity
With a week to mull it over, The Daily Show and host Jon Stewart returned from a week off Monday night with a chance to address the controversy that erupted over future Daily Show host Trevor Noah’s Twitter feed. Barely hours after Noah was announced as Stewart’s eventual replacement, the internet erupted over a selection of Noah’s past tweets that mocked Jews, fat chicks, Jewish chicks, and even (perhaps worst of all) atheists. Comedians and Lena Dunham rushed to defend Noah, who brushed off the controversial tweets as “a handful of jokes that didn’t land.”

Jon Stewart would crucify anybody else, especially anyone whose politics he does not agree with, if they made those same “jokes”.
Jon Stewart is a far-left version of Glenn Beck. Same hyperbole, same theatrics, same double standards, just on the other side of the poitical spectrum.

Stewart’s commentary is based on actual events.
Beck’s commentary is based on the delusional conspiracy theories popular in right wing America, e.g. Grover Norquist is an operative for the Muslim Brotherhood.
It is ludicrous to equate fact-based satire with delusional fiction.

The two have nothing in common. Stewart is a comedian, and Beck is unintentionally funny, and he’s the only one who’s not in on the joke.

Why are his comments about atheists “worst of all”? The most he’s doing is question atheists’ beliefs and values (albeit stupidly). At least he isn’t joking about killing atheists’ children or complaining about atheist chicks refusing to go down on him.

What missed opportunity? Stewart did exactly what he should have done. Noah’s years-old tweets are irrelevant. If people have nothing better to do than play a worn-out victim card, the best thing to do is ignore them.
