Barney Frank: Don’t Challenge Hillary From The Left

Posted by | March 25, 2015 13:00 | Filed under: Politics Radio Interviews Top Stories

Barney Frank appeared on radio with me Tuesday night to discuss his new book, Frank: A Life in Politics from the Great Society to Same-Sex Marriage. His is firmly behind Hillary Clinton for 2016, and he doesn’t favor a primary challenge.

COLMES: Who would you like to see as the next President?
FRANK: Hillary Clinton.
COLMES: Really? So you’re firmly behind Hillary Clinton?
FRANK: Absolutely. I think she a contentious candidate for the Democrats. I don’t think she’ll be challenged. I do not think that the average voter cares what email server she used. If something were to come out where she said something in an email that was embarrassing, that would be a problem, I don’t expect that to happen, and I think that it’s just inside baseball.
COLMES: Would you like to see a robust primary where she is sharpening her skills against people like Martin O’Malley?
FRANK: I think her skills are pretty sharp right now. For my friends on the left who say wouldn’t be good if she was challenged from the left very vigorously, I ask them if they really think we want to replicate what happened to Mitt Romney in 2012.

Frank also discussed his decision to come out of the closet, what it was like hiding his sexual preference for years, and whether he’d out legislators who are gay but vote anti-gay.

In other words, dont waste your sponsors money.

Clinton is an old lady she isn’t up to the task of a full blown out and out campaign she showed that with the email situation. She missed her chance now we need someone with fire in their belly, charisma and a message that people can get behind.

can we dispense with the “old” bullsh*t. she is younger than both Donald Trump and Mitt Romney.

the recent polls which show her beating every possible GOP candidate demonstrate that people can already get behind her if given the opportunity.

Agree in principle, but I would prefer a candidate not from the generation where it never even occurred to them to support same sex marriage (which is basically her defense for only supporting same sex marriage when it became politically uncomfortable not to on the D side of the isle). I think much of her reefer madness is generationally based as well.

Time for some new blood, no Clintons, no Bushes, and let’s give someone a bit more in touch with the current times a shot. She’s done far more than her fair share of public service, let her smell some roses and whatnot.

I can respect a choice based on the issues and even a choice based on “dynasty fatigue”. I just get annoyed at these other folks who make an issue of her age when the plain truth is that Romney who some wanted to run again, and Trump who is running (at least in his own mind) are older than Hilary Clinton.

But no one ever mentions their age. Seems to me that is textbook sexism.

Tell me what you think about her having her own email server.

          • Um Cara March 26th, 2015 at 10:35

I think it was super weasily & done in order for her to better control what communications got released to we mere citizens.

            • trees March 26th, 2015 at 11:53

Does super weaselly = illegal? In your opinion, was it premeditated, was it done with a specific purpose in mind, that purpose being to prevent FOIA requests and to thwart congressional subpoenas?

Or, do you think it was a matter of convenience, you know, so she wouldn’t have to carry two cell phone sized devices? (hard to believe that someone who is capable of setting up and administrating their own computer server is ignorant to how these new devices can contain multiple email accounts….)

                Does super weaselly = illegal?

                No, apparently it was legal.

In your opinion, was it premeditated, was it done with a specific purpose in mind, that purpose being to prevent FOIA requests and to thwart congressional subpoenas?

I think she, and others, have done this primarily for political purposes, to be able to better control the spin of various issues.

Or, do you think it was a matter of convenience, you know, so she wouldn’t have to carry two cell phone sized devices? (hard to believe that someone who is capable of setting up and administrating their own computer server is ignorant to how these new devices can contain multiple email accounts….)

Convenience was probably part of it too – and I don’t think she set up or administered a mail server herself.

She is an Old dried up lying hypocrite who took $ from a Saudi King who executed women for being raped. When she gives the $ back I may listen to her BS about womens rights. Hati isnt to happy with the old koot either

        • arc99 March 25th, 2015 at 22:02

You are entitled to your opinion. Your opinion does not change the fact that she is younger than the two old koots who are once and future Republican candidates; Romney and Trump.

Hence, my conclusion that the discussion of her age is bullsh*t.

          Sexist bullsh*t I would add.

          • Bahaus March 25th, 2015 at 22:07

Well age and gender are two entirely different subjects. Hillary is 69 and falling apart. Who cares about Romney and Trump

            • arc99 March 25th, 2015 at 22:24

She turns 68 years old in October.

And unless you are her primary care physician, you have no idea whether or not she is “falling apart”.

Personally, I do not care about Romney or Trump. I do care greatly about sexist double standards where Mrs. Clinton’s age is constantly mentioned by friend and foe alike. But with her older male counterparts, the subject of age never comes up.

              • Bahaus March 25th, 2015 at 22:29

Do you care about the women that were executed for being raped by the King who gave Hillary $ for her foundation ?

                • arc99 March 25th, 2015 at 22:42

I do care that we live in an evil, complicated world.

The Saudis in addition to their barbaric legal system also hold ownership in Ebay, Disney, Saks 5th Avenue, Twitter, Apple, Motorola, and Time Warner.

To what extent do we compromise our own values for some purpose we deem more important? Are you planning to boycott all of the above mentioned companies until the Saudis divest themselves of all ownership? Note that one of the largest suppliers in the world for smartphone chips is Motorola.

So if you honestly believe that the Saudi legal system which I agree is horrific should be grounds for the Clinton foundation to return their contributions, then you should also be willing to forego any products or services from the above companies as well. Otherwise you have no moral grounds to condemn Mrs. Clinton.

BTW She doesn’t have a primary care Physician she has an archaeologist

Are they happy with the old men then?

      • dewired4u March 25th, 2015 at 21:23

I have watched a young Obama turn old what do you think the toll would be on Clinton? I like her I just don’t think she is up to the challenge of going against the rove/kock machine.

read the same quotes over there (and was reminded of FOX”news” connection)

Challenging Hillary from the left is exactly what I’m hoping for… if not for her to decide not to run at all , and throw her support behind someone like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Alan Grayson, Marianne Williamson, Peter DeFazio, Russ Feingold, one of the Browns, or Greens…

…trying to remember what exactly, happened to Williard on ’12 – was Barney talking about his losing to a challenge from the (arguable) “left”, i.e., our President?

  4. oldfart March 26th, 2015 at 01:42

republicans know that a un-opposed Hillary will cost them dearly
including blood and treasure and the Cayman Island account.
all she needs to do is listen and act on what our party is telling her.
(wouldn’t hurt to try and get it done either)
after all, only funding one candidate is much more cost effective…
