Florida Man Washes Sidewalk, Gets Attacked By Ants

Some news stories just make me itch all over. But enough about Jodi Ernst. Here’s a story of some swarming insects with a really bad attitude toward a well-maintained front yard:

Angry ants overwhelmed an elderly Florida man, but he had a crew of firefighters on his side.

Jack Hurdt, 81, was pressure washing his sidewalk when he stirred up a nest of the biting insects, according to a news report.

The little buggers nipped and chewed the senior, bringing him down before he could get inside.

“Went about 15 feet, pushed the doorbell — next thing I knew, I was on the ground,” Hurdt told WESH. “I was out.”

His wife found him unconscious on the doorstep and called for help. …

A crew from Brevard County Fire Rescue rushed to his aid, and then the do-gooders came back and finished pressure washing the walk while Hurdt was being treated at a hospital.

The stunned man and his wife came home to find a note waiting for them.

“Dear Mr. Hurdt and family. We finished pressure washing your front walk,” the letter said.

Since it was Florida, my first thought was that it was fire ants. They are all over the South, and are more aggressive than normal ants. Glad he’s okay, and good for the fire fighters.

Somebody asked me once if I ever worried about snakes or gators here in FL. Nope, never give them a second thought. Fire ants!?! Those suckers are evil…and organized.

Much worse than the “killer bees” that didn’t match the scary stories. My sister used to live in South Carolina, and there were mounds all over the place.

Florida IS a stand-your-ground state, and the ants DID feel threatened…
