Carville: Potential Hillary Rivals ‘Wasting Their Time’

Posted by | March 16, 2015 07:30 | Filed under: Politics Top Stories

You can always depend on champion campaign manager turned political pundit James Carville to liven up the stale kabuki that passes for Beltway political discourse. We do suspect, however, that Jim Webb, Martin O’Malley, Bernie Sanders, and several other potential candidates might beg to differ:

James Carville said in an interview broadcast Sunday that it would be a waste of time for any Democrat to challenge Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“I’ve had maybe three people come up to me and say, ‘Well, I’m for somebody else other than Hillary,’ “ the Democratic strategist told host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York.

“And I know I run into more Democrats in more places than maybe anybody else in the United States,” he added.

“Of course, Senator [Jim] Webb and Governor [Martin] O’Malley can say anything they want. But, in terms of the party, every poll that you see shows … 86 percent of the Democrats say they’re going to vote for Hillary … I don’t know how much data you can get, but who am I to tell Senator Webb or Governor O’Malley, who I both know, that you can’t run?” he asked.

“You’re not going to win. But if you want to waste your time, that’s your business.”

A primary tussle toughens up a candidate for the general election. Despite her experience and battles so far, Hillary could use the practice.

while i would agree that anyone running against Hillary will probably be foolishly wasting their money, i would argue that without any competition, Hillary will not be forced to listen and address the diversity of opinions within the democratic big tent.
nor will she truly appreciate why people “will hold their nose” when voting for her.

I think his cockiness will be very counterproductive for the Dems if he is right.

Looks like I’ll be voting Green in 2016.

    That’s just stupid.
Every candidate needs the workout of a primary.

Unfortunately this is what politics and our so called ‘democracy’ has devolved in to…
The rich and powerful control the system…
They choose who will run for office..
And the biggest spender has the loudest voice.

it’s OK. at least Hillary won’t be so lonesome waiting to devour – uh, debate the best of the best that the GOPs have to offer. Also, it will be a little bump to the Obama economy. Nothing like the GOPs are going to turbo boost it, but every little bit helps.

You can tell how much trouble Hillary is in by how hard Carville tries to defend her. She’s in trouble…….

But you libs don’t care about that. Hillary could shoot a five year old kid in the face at point blank range and you libs would defend her. She didn’t think the gun was loaded, she didn’t think the gun was real, she never saw the kid, she thought there was a mountain lion behind the kid, and she was trying to save the kids life, but missed and hit the kid accidentally….etc..etc…

” Hillary could shoot a five year old kid in the face at point blank range and you libs would defend her”
      Heh, Heh.
Loving the butthurt. Watching you right wing, desperate, Fox fed, Limbaugh lickers trying to pre-impeach someone is pretty entertaining.

Like I demonstrated yesterday, you’re not interested in the law. When I pointed out the law, it’s context, and the facts that Hillary admitted to, you resorted to ad-hominem…..

Better start looking for a candidate to run in ’16 cause your gal Hillary has got zero chance…..

She’ll be disqualified from holding office by that time, might even get some jail time in the deal…..

        • OldLefty March 18th, 2015 at 15:42

There is no issue with the law here.

Yet again, there is nothing to see here, but it will sell email lists.

This from the guy who twice voted for war criminals.

Lots of kids were turned into blackened charred corpses in Iraq, and all YOU did about it is watch the pictures and masturbate.

I know it sucks to go from thinking that you were a shoe in to win the presidential election, to realizing that Scott Walker is probably going to be the next President of the United States…..

But you should really tone it down, you’re baseless allegations make you look mentally unhinged….

And I worry about your high blood preasure/high caffeine intake, you’re a prime candidate for a stroke, or heart attack.

Start drinking decaf at least, mmkay?

    • jasperjava March 17th, 2015 at 01:59

In case you haven’t noticed, not a lot of liberals are thrilled with having Hillary, especially without a challenge.

But Hillary would be a million times better than the psychopathic freaks you have on the Right.

      • trees March 17th, 2015 at 02:44

Personally, I think the left would be better off finding a better candidate. Hillary is in some serious trouble and ignoring questions, or having amnesia, or trying to change the story with the changing facts is going to be a campaign killer, and she may get charged, who knows, I hear the incoming AG has some real ethics…. there needs to at least be a primary challenge, you don’t want all your eggs in the Hillary basket, what with the political and legal uncertainty that’s coming…..
